  1. And what does that have to do with anything? You mean the guys who support the athletic program by attending the games with their friends on Friday nights? Those guys? It doesn't make a difference who is on the team and who isn't. The fans are difference makers. No fans, no athletic program. All opinions matter my friend. To beat "a" 6a power from the south? Or did you mean the BEST 6a power from the south? Snider has won against Carmel, Warren Central, Ben Davis, Fishers, and Hamilton Southeastern.............and they will again. As their enrollment gets smaller and the Indy Mega's get larger, the wins may be fewer and far between, but there will be wins. But to have a team that is better than EVERY Indy mega power? Your right, it might be a once in a decade thing. It used to be 6 years. Best team in the state in 1986 (turnovers), 1992 (champs), 1997 (mud), 2004 (injuries), and possibly (I say this cautiously) 2015. Let's just stop pretending that Snider's not a factor in 6a anymore. As fans, we know the road to Lucas and actually win might be a once in a decade thing. Sure, a run to a 5a title is fun, but there is nothing like knocking heads against the likes of Carmel and Penn.

  3. 10 years ago, ACA promised many things, and has been lauded as a giant step forward. Yet here we are 10 years later and according to the people on the stage the last couple of nights we have a healthcare crisis. So before we buy into the all the promises this time around, ACA promised: 1. If you like your insurance you can keep it. 2. If you like your doctor you can keep your doctor. 3. ACA will lower premiums for the typical American family up to $2500 a year. 4. For the 85%-90% of Americans who already have health insurance it will be made stronger with better coverage. 5. For families making less than 250K they will see no new taxes. 6. ACA will not add one dime to the deficit now or in the future. I could go on but you get the picture. So all of these career politicians are pointing out that they government has failed, and the answer is more government.

  4. This study was published in JAMA (Journal of the American Medical Association) Neurology. That gives it a lot of credibility. Chronic Traumatic Encephelopathy (CTE) in football has become one of the biggest issues they face after finishing their careers. However, a recent study from JAMA Neurology suggests that former high school football players do not face an enhanced risk. The findings from the study (which took on 3,904 men with an average age of 64.4 years) read as such:The study used data from the Wisconsin Longitudinal Study, with players matched between March 1 and July 1, 2017. Controlled variables included adolescent IQ, family background, and educational level. This included three types of studied subjects: all controls, those who played a noncollision sport, and those who did not play any sport. So for those who attended high school 60 years ago, playing football didn’t expose itself as a major risk factor for later-life cognitive impairment or depression that comes with CTE. Despite the game being quite different today with bigger, faster, and stronger athletes, it still found that the risk today is similar as it was then. The study also stated that, “cognitive and depression outcomes later in life were found to be similar for high school football players and their nonplaying counterparts.” That’s got to be even more comforting knowing that it’s as if they never played at all. For players that have taken their careers to the next level, and the professional level, this isn’t necessarily encouraging. However, there has to be some relief for people who may have questioned what football may have done to their bodies just from playing high school ball. https://www.sbnation.com/2017/7/11/15952184/cte-study-wisconsin-high-school-football

  7. Conference Indiana has definitely gone by the wayside joining itself to obscurity in the landscape like urban blight has done to gary lew wallace high school. Rarely do i get a comment from a member school's fanbase other than the catholic teams fans that were added last season. An occasional comment from a Columbus east fan that is only around when the other team from columbus is playing . Strangely when i went to college the first time a guy in our dorm was a graduate of lew wallace high school. Anyways just another attempt to strum up some conversation with member school fans on the first weeks games non conference schedule looks as if Columbus North has added Avon. That will a be semi attractive first week matchup. Bloomington South vs Castle also looks interesting. As always southport/roncalli should be a grinder. Well August 1st is here and the games are in sight. I think i just heard my voice echo in this empty conference Indiana thread. Hello anyone out there?

  9. https://www.huffpost.com/entry/erin-burnett-donald-trump-infested-trope_n_5d3fec29e4b01d8c9780ac72 Erin Burnett on Monday broke down the ways in which President Donald Trump has previously used the word “infested” to stoke racism. The host of CNN’s “Outfront” explained that Trump’s recent Twitter attacks on Rep. Elijah Cummings (D-Md.) and the city of Baltimore, which he called a “disgusting rodent and rat infested mess,” was designed to ”feed his base’s basest tendencies.” “And ‘infest’ is a word the president often uses when it comes to black and brown people,” said Burnett, who highlighted previous examples of Trump using the “trope.” “Infest is a loaded word throughout history and when people defending Trump say ’well, literally, there are rats in Baltimore, that shows a painful willingness to look the other way,’” she added. So......Who is racist again? Congressman Cummings uses the word "Infested" when referring to his district back in 1999. (a district which hasn't improved much since then)

  10. IMO, If this is really your stance then you have to apply it both ways. In other words, Why don’t you apply the same thought process to the school striving to win in their class level by beating the perennial powers? To use your own words, challenge yourself to achieve something greater by beating the perennial power? Look forward to beating these perennial powers as it will be so rewarding. Just saying

  11. This “punishment” nonsense comes perilously close to the “cult of victimhood.” The idea is that in the tournament, like competes against like. Or at least, as close as you can come, given the wide disparities in ability in HS football. You can quarrel all you want with the way the goal was implemented. But that’s a different issue than whether the goal itself is a worthwhile one.

  12. One thing to counter the "private schools have an unfair advantage" is not every private school dominates. It's really only a handful of them. The ultimate private schools (Culver Military Academy and Park Tudor) don't dominate in many sports, and they recruit all over the country. Their emphasis on sports is different than other private schools too. That's why a blanket policy for all private schools (i.e. multiplier) doesn't make sense. I think the Success Factor is the best solution I've seen. It could possibly be tweaked, but in general it works because it applies to everyone equally and doesn't unnecessarily punish private schools that don't perform as well. I agree private schools generally do have an advantage because they have a high percentage of active students in activities including sports. The make-up of the student bodies are very different. But that doesn't mean they will all automatically be better. We also have to accept the fact no system will be perfect and the ultimate goal is competition, teamwork, and goal setting. Generally the players don't care. They just want to play and compete and some will be seeking college scholarships. This really is an adult problem.

  14. So.....What ever Trump says, even when it's factual, it's just racist then......Even the (former) Mayor was shocked..... BUT - Because Cummings is black, the President can't even point out what everyone around Baltimore knows......

  16. Bremen is neither Judson nor Mishawaka. Town elders have to much pride to let their beloved long green line sink to the HNAC level. Don't hold your breath waiting for that invite.

  17. If they view it as a positive, there is no reason to move to the HNAC. Regardless, there will be no move unless a present member leaves the conference. Furthermore, There are at least two and maybe 3 school the HNAC would approach before inquiring about Bremen.

  19. Maybe...but you couldn't tell the difference between June & July about a week ago. Maybe...but the Luers Coach went to the press when he should have left it up to the IHSAA to make an announcement.

Those who want to see a piece of paper could go to certified providers. The rest of us could take our chances with businesses we trust through experience and reputation. Personal responsibility in the marketplace. Imagine that!
