  1. Teaching is harder than it's ever been and teacher pay in Indiana doesn't compare well to surrounding states. Many schools haven't redone their coaching pay scales in 20+ years (hard to up coaching pay when teacher pay is lagging so far behind). Finding assistant coaches is harder than ever as the number of young people entering education continues to decline. Then there is the expectation by parents that with 2 assistants at the school and with your $7000 stipend that the program should resemble a small college, all while being one of the most widely criticized humans in a given school district............. it becomes a less and less attractive job every year. Some schools invest more than others and are rewarded with a stable coaching staff and with that stability often comes success. Other schools choose to constantly band aid the situation and ignore the facts of what it takes to run a competitive program in 2022. Those places will continue to struggle.

  2. Chatard back to 3A is definitely a winner after only one year in 4A.

  3. I would of loved to stay on a staff, but leaving the teaching profession and transitioning into the private sector was much higher on the priority list than coaching. Tough to rationalize making 40k as a teacher + a couple grand coaching over a career that gives you an opportunity to provide for your family in a manner I wanted.

  4. Added this in another thread, but for the NLCers Andrew Mevis (K): Undrafted Free Agent: Jacksonville Jaguars via Iowa State and Fordham and Warsaw Community High School Mevis finished his only season in Ames (as a graduate transfer from Fordham) 20-of-23 on field goals, including 2-for-2 on kicks of 50+ yards, and was perfect on PATs. Mevis was arguably the best kicker in the entire draft, and will presumably have a shot at taking the starting job since the Jaguars released longtime kicker Josh Lambo midway through the 2021 season. His younger brother Harrison is the kicker at Missouri and will likely be a front-runner for the Groza award this season.

  5. Just change a few words here and there, and you’ve described the officials shortage in a nutshell. Makes me wonder if there isn’t a common cause in there somewhere.

  8. I really don't care whether you agree or not.

  9. If Caden Curry is running a 4.5 or 4.6 at the NFL combine he'll have nothing to worry about. I'm guessing that isn't the case though or else you wouldn't be this defensive. I have little doubt he'll be able to add on the necessary weight that was giving DT concerns about his ability to get drafted.

  10. I've posed this question elsewhere, but is Pioneer really even in 1A? They won a regional in 2020 which would keep us in 2A unless I missed a different rule posting than what was originally released. Between 1A and 2A just line us up and we'll play whoever. Our biggest issue at the 2A level is simply depth. Big difference going against teams with 40-60 kids on the roster compared to us only having 20-30 kids JV-Varsity.

  11. If Pioneer doesn't/didn't want to go back down to 1A, couldn't they have requested to stay in 2A? I agree with what you wrote. If I were them, I'd look forward to the challenge of winning it all in 2A. But some believe the only thing that matters is winning the ring and would rather take a 80% chance of winning something less than a 20% chance at winning something more. I admire the way Pioneer handled their years in 2A as they competed and I didn't read much whining about it on here like you do from another public school that has recently had to play up a class.

  12. Curry's skills and instincts are among the best I've seen in a high school situation. Plenty of time to fill out.

  13. Administrators ego's are effecting this as well . It used to be when a teacher came in for an interview one of the questions asked was what sport could you coach ? Now I told a fellow young coach/teacher , don't even mention coaching unless they bring it up and most won't anymore . Head coaches need guys in the building and principals refuse to help, principals want to find a teacher on there own. I've seen numerous times were guys coach at one schools and teach at another and get constantly passed over for multiple positions in the district , good teachers already a little extra invested in that districts students can't get a sniff because there name was brought to an admin . its funny the misconception around many Football coaches . I've always said could you imagine the way the administration and the school cooperation as a whole would look at a teacher who - lets say was say "in charge of the year book" or the "Sophomore class sponsor and they spent even half the time outside of school with the students that Football coaches do? They would win teacher of the year every year. Its sad but I've always said most go into Administration for 1 of 3 reasons 1) The are tired and/or not very good in the classroom 2) They want Admin level money 3) Both 1 and 2

  14. Love the insight, I forgot Reitz had Burnett, which I think he is a solid back. St. Louis/Northington will be a great combo for North, definitely will depend on them for quickness. Guerizini/Pierre/Thomas are all safe in terms of RB positions. Haven’t heard anything about Jasper, but Coach Lewis will utilize Leinenbach. Central will rely on Diaz this year for the RB position. Gilbert is solid player, hope the Alices can get the best of him this season. And like I said before, Baker will probably RB1 followed by Broines/Horning depending if Rodes can play. The time I saw Waldington play during Memorial/Harrison game, pretty impressed since he got some yardage early on. And I believe we are less than a month away for the “unofficial” start of the season! Edit: I think I mistaken Sears for Waldington for Harrison

  15. Congrats also to Hamilton Heights' Sterling Weatherford also signed by the Colts as an undrafted free agent. Sterling was WR in high school and played DB at Miami of Ohio.

  16. And that was following 3 consecutive recruiting classes ranked in the top ten nationally. Can you say “lack of development?”

  17. CG won the south 5 of the previous 7 years including 3 state titles. It's not like it was just one class and graduation has left us decimated. We won't be flooded with Big 5 talent this year but we'll still be pretty good.

  18. Not sure how that can be seen by them as a slap in the face? A father trying to build a historically bad program and driving 2 hours to get his daughter to the doctors she needs decides to take a lesser role at a program that's practically in the city his daughter's doctors are in, sounds like a guy being a good dad.
