crimsonace1 Posted October 3, 2024 Posted October 3, 2024 Greenwood has applied to leave the Mid-State and join the new Hoosier Legends Conference (which is mostly the public schools in the ICC + a few others). Beech Grove, Indian Creek, Monrovia, Speedway, Triton Central and Tri-West are the six members who will start next year. Greenwood would start in 2026-27. There is reportedly another 4A school from the area that has applied to be the eighth team. https://dailyjournal.net/2024/10/02/greenwood-considering-mid-state-conference-departure/ Quote

Mooresville? Martinsville? Or are those schools too big? Quote

Too big plus I can't imagine them wanting to be in a conference with Monrovia. Same with Shelbyville. Might be a good fit but would not want to be in same conference as Triton Central. 1 Quote

Wasn’t sure if that was expected to continue or if they’ve flattened out. Quote
Gatorguy Posted October 4, 2024 Posted October 4, 2024 I've heard Greenwood and Shelbyville from the moment this conference was 1st announced were involved in negotiations to join. Quote

jets Posted October 4, 2024 Posted October 4, 2024 So - if I'm reading this correctly - Greenwood doesn't like being the/one of the smallest in their current conference - so it wants to go join a league where it will be the BIGGEST school in the conference?? One of those wants to be a "big fish in a smaller pond" scenarios huh?? Quote
FastpacedO Posted October 4, 2024 Posted October 4, 2024 I would like to see New Palestine in the Mid-State conference for football. I know there is more than football so I understand why they are in the Hoosier Heritage. I just think it would be cool to have them in the Mid-State 1 Quote

Impossible to grow. The new growth sections of Greenwood that are still getting developed are in the Whiteland and Center Grove districts. The Woodmen are waving the white flag and acknowledging life in the Mid State is going to continually get worse. Quote

CaptainHook Posted October 17, 2024 Posted October 17, 2024 Kind of a shame. I feel like Shelbyville is on their way out of Suckville. It wasn't all that long ago they were contenders in football and basketball. Had a rough go lately. But the middle schools in the HHC instituted a conference schedule this year and the Golden Bears 8th grade team was undefeated and played in the de facto championship game to end the season. Quote

With Scott Fitzgerald and Pat Parks back on board, they have the right people in place to build the program back up to what it was before Coach Parks retired. They're on their way back up. But my friends from Shelbyville have said they're concerned about how fast the Hancock County schools and Pendleton Heights are growing, and they're already struggling to compete in most sports (although they are competing in baseball and softball). Now, the big question is what happens with the HHC. Delta has been trying to find a new conference for a while, but hasn't been able to find one. There's been some chatter about New Castle informally looking, but I'm not sure how serious that is or how firm those rumors are. Yorktown wants to stay in the HHC - it is a powerhouse volleyball conference right now - but may have its hand forced if Delta/New Castle leave. If that doomsday scenario happens, what do the four remaining schools (G-C/MV/NP/PH) do? There are options, but none of them are particularly good. Quote
RetiredSouthernCoach Posted October 17, 2024 Posted October 17, 2024 Really think this was the right move for both Shelbyville & Greenwood. Both schools are not going to grow due to the areas around them growing so rapidly. This conference with Shelbyville, Greenwood, Triton Central, Indian Creek, Triwest, Monrovia, Beech Grove, & Speedway will be competitive in almost every sport. I think this is just the beginning with conference re-alignments. The Hoosier Heritage is going to continue to see movement. Could see conference Indiana breaking up as well, with Columbus NOrth going to the Mid-State in replacement of Greenwood and the Bloomington schools to the Hoosier Hills. When you look at the current conference teams in the bigger conferences in central and southern indiana, there are atleast a team or two in each conference that no longer fits from an enrollment perspective. Growth in some areas isnt going to slow down, which will produce more conference change. Schools that dont see the changes and refuse to make their own conference/schedule changes will continue to be the doormat. Quote

Yes, travel on the south side of Indy sucks, but the schools in their current conferences are out growing them. Plainfield, Whiteland, Franklin, and Decatur are all headed for 6A. Mt Vernon, New Pal, Greenfield are all headed toward 5A. Looking forward to playing some new teams. Now we just need to get Monrovia and Shelbyville some turf. Quote

Hopefully the HHC just rolls with 7 or is able to find an 8th team. It’s a great conference across the board and a competitive conference. New Pal is clearly been the top dog in football but all sports are competitive in conference and has prepared a lot of teams for post season runs. Quote
