  1. Just my 2 cents, if or when a Big8/PAC merger happens. These teams would be foolish not to open up weeks 1&2 for non-conference games. Top to bottom the SIAC offers potential opponents that offer either great traditions or dynamic team speed. Just show up at the Evansville track sectional if you need confirmation. Playing Bosse the last few years in the sectional, it has taken us a half of football to adjust. Just can't simulate that in practice. Working together we can strive to elevate Southwestern Indiana football as a whole, or continue to let smaller programs continue to get beat down and eventually fold programs because of low participation numbers. Let's be open to the fact, when all schools have some type of level of success, it's good for everyone. No one wants to be the 0-10 or 1-9 team. Let's open the doors for those looking for winnable games and those looking to test their limits.

  2. Well, you may be right in blaming your education. But before besmirching a fine institution like ISU, we should probably consider some alternative theories.... 😉

  6. When I was in HS, both Whiting (my school) and Hobart were one of the few teams left from the Region in the playoffs. Hobart invited some of the Whiting players out to their pep rally at the Brickie Bowl. We got to listen to Coach Howell speak in the locker room, they announced us in the Bowl, it was pretty special. They also gave us a Hobart t-shirt. Loving Hobart, I wore that t-shirt under my pads from that year on in HS and 4 years in college. I am not superstitious but the shirt clearly meant something to me and I went out of my way to make sure I packed the shirt before every game. I recently grabbed a couple of storage bins from my parents house of crap my mom saved of me growing up. I opened up the first bin and right on top is that Hobart t-shirt. I told my wife the story behind it and she was disgusted that I wore the same shirt for 6 years. I tried to put it on... not happening.

  7. Yep ... it's in the Saggy Bottoms strip mall ... although to make it sound classier, they refer to it as a dance mall. 😀

  8. Time for another regular topic to return. Sad part to this one though is the level of truth behind it (not the kid being fired, but the likelihood that a kid actually made the shoes) https://sports.theonion.com/nike-fires-8-year-old-shoemaker-responsible-for-zion-wi-1832801206?utm_medium=SocialMarketing&utm_source=Facebook&utm_campaign=SF&utm_content=Main

  10. VL/MD was going to happen Week 1 last season but Lincoln was unable void their contract with Owen Valley. In the late 90’s/early 00’s, VL played Central Week 1, Memorial Week 2 for 6-7 years when the program was in a much better place. I know Coach Salters wants to get back playing a similar type of schedule.

  11. This generation (Lord, I sound more like my Dad everyday) doesn't understand or take pride in the fact they GET to represent the name on the front of the jersey. There is definitely a chemistry issue with this team. Maybe a coaching issue. Although I'm a firm believer a coach needs 3-4 years to get his own players in the system. Not ready to jump ship but deeply disappointed. I'm inclined to think it is too much emphasis on the offense going thru only Romeo or Juwan. When Juwan went down with the injury a while ago, they seemed to respond by everyone looking for the open man instead of everyone looking for Romeo or Juwan. But what do I know I'm just a guy who buys a ticket once in a while.

  17. The start of the season is going to be tricky for sure. Nevada away should be a W but its on the road. Vandy will not beat themselves normally. The uglier the game is, the better for Vandy. Their offense wasn't dynamic last year and the QB graduated so if Boilers score points they should win. I think TCU bounces back this year. Depends on what they get offensively because the defense is always solid to really good. Can't believe somebody doesn't like Patterson but loves Briles. Might sum up Baylor community perfectly.

  18. You do realize, that if SPLC efforts did actually result in real improvements of pulling hate crimes and hate groups numbers lower to none, there would be no need for SPLC....... As the definition of hate crimes expands, so do the number of incidents......FY end 2017 - Around $432,000,000 in assets operating on about $45,000,000 in revenue. https://www.splcenter.org/sites/default/files/103117_afs.pdf

  19. I have long referred to the following things as part of me being "stuperstitious," meaning I know that they have no bearing on the outcome of a game itself (hence the "stupid" part) but I can't bring myself to NOT do them (the "superstitious" part): -The only night of the week that I shave is Thursday night. -I wear the same coaches polo every Friday at school and on the sideline (despite being told that I can wear a team t-shirt). -I have to have the same numbered headset every Friday night (it was #8 last year) and wear it on the left ear over my baseball cap. -I take two pieces of chewing gum before the game and two at half time. These are not "winning streak stretchers" I simply HAVE to do these every week, win or lose, or else I feel like I personally doom our chances on Friday night... I know, stuperstitious right?

  23. If you are referring to Reitz, they have won 2 state titles in 2 appearances. Since 1994, MD has been to the state title game 5 times, winning 1. Memorial has been 4 times, winning 1.

  24. You can find SIAC (or any other conference) standings on the John Harrell IN HS football website under "Archives" going back to 1994. Just looking back to 2000, Reitz (8), Castle (3), MD (6), Central (3) and Memorial (2) have won or shared the championships. North, Bosse and Harrison have not.

  31. In conference, I find myself rooting more for Danville and Tri-West in the postseason. Both teams have solid programs and typically finish well in conference. Out of conference, I respect Tipton based on the tough challenge they presented to Webo in sectionals the last two years. Growing up as a Star and having kids who went to Webo, I love to see Lebanon loose in every sport possible, every single sport. The 4A football sectional always puts a smile on my face. Beyond generational rivalry, I don't have a ton of respect for a school who's biggest sports rival is almost half their enrollment. With that, I will say the animosity appears to have settled down a bit in the last 1-2 years. The two schools came together during basketball sectionals in 2017 to mourn the loss of a Webo student who passed unexpectedly. Also not a fan of private schools (attitudes and competitive advantage). Brebeuf wearing straw hats and overalls to a Webo home volleyball game a few years ago definitely contributes to my dislike.

  32. It’s about the kids and I haven’t met many skill guys that don’t love playing 7 on 7. Now I think any 7 on 7 league that takes a multiple sport athlete away from playing another sport is plain stupid.

  38. Meh, the SPLC has it's own biases: https://www.nationalreview.com/2018/03/southern-poverty-law-center-bias-hate-group-labels-scam/ https://www.dailywire.com/news/8967/7-things-you-need-know-about-southern-poverty-law-aaron-bandler The Hitler comments are a reference to when Carson said, "The likelihood of Hitler being able to accomplish his goals would have been greatly diminished if the people had been armed." This is hardly an extreme comment, in fact it's accurate. Carson's opposition to gay marriage is also not a viewpoint worthy of being put on an extremist list. .... 6. The FBI removed the SPLC as a "resource" in 2014 for their "hate crime Web page." The FBI refused to comment on it, but according to The Blaze, the move came "after 15 conservative groups lobbied Attorney General Eric Holder and FBI Director James Comey to end the endorsement." 7. The actual hate group is the SPLC. As Human Events concluded in 2011:

  39. I don't recall ever stating that we should ignore FBI statistics, or input from this CSU entity. If you want to talk about contradicting/contrary numbers, we first have to all agree on the definition of "hate group", don't we? One may also have to support the concept of a "hate crime" in the first place.

  40. I personally did not game them. Why is this number so important to you, foxbat?
    -1 points
  41. Yes, they were altered by a GID administrator. Not at my personal request however. And again, please elaborate on how I was "obfuscating story content by going after the source" when I was simply pointing out the bias behind the SPLC? Funny how when somebody starts whining about or questioning the reputation +/- and you then ask why it is so important to them the answer is invariably "but it's not".
