But he also says this: "The white conservatives aren't friends of the Negro either, but they at least don't try to hide it. They are like wolves; they show their teeth in a snarl that keeps the Negro always aware of where he stands with them."2 points

"If you know anything about Malcolm X, you’d know this isn’t the only instance where he used the term “political chumps”, and he certainly didn’t reserve his criticisms for the Democratic Party. Looking more broadly at his political philosophy, he wasn’t only talking Black Democrats exclusively. He was concerned with Black Liberation from all white supremacist political parties and political structures that took advantage of Black people without promoting their well-being. He believed that Black people, if they did not organize for self-defense and self-determination, could be made “political chumps” by white people in the Republican Party, the Democratic Party, the media establishment, the military, and other power structures. Minister Shabaaz discusses a number of scenarios where Black people could be “political chumps”. In “The Ballot or the Bullet (1964) he also discusses how ameriklan “patriotism” transforms the Black serviceman into a chump when he’s getting riddled with bullets for a country that won’t treat him as a full citizen when he gets home: That’s not about party affiliation. That’s about a nationalist/patriotic affiliation with a fundamentally racist government and political system. He’s saying that patriotism makes Black people “political chumps” because the government was never designed to protect our interests, only exploit us for the benefit of white supremacy. So that’s one place that directly contradicts your attempt to make Shabazz’s words solely about the Democratic Party. But, if you read further, he completely obliterates your apparent attempt to turn this into a “republican versus democrat “ thing:2 points

What is so controversial? You mean beside the fact that this is not the place where the soldiers died or where the graves for them are? or beside the fact that the reason it is in the spot it is in was decided by members of the klan so that it would be more visible to all residents of the city, including the minorities? Beside the fact that no one really spoke up for keeping it when it was up for discussion in 2017 when the Parks Department voted to have it removed. From that time, museums have had the opportunity to take the monument, but no one has stepped up. I would also add that this marker currently sits in Crown Hill Cemetery where the remains are actually buried now.2 points

And keep the knuckleheads out of the stations. Sometimes those watering stations look like a public fountain the way that kids get when they get around water. 😀 That 20 oz. will get him from the locker-room to the field if he's lucky. I'm always amazed at how much folks underestimate just how much liquid is necessary to sustain a body; especially under exertion in heat. Even with younger kids, I'm constantly having to force kids to take advantage of the water breaks when they keep saying, "But I'm not thirsty." You don't get too many balking at the high school level, but I always tell kids when they are getting water, "Just before you leave the station, always take another three or four mouthfuls to be sure."2 points

Taking down monuments erected anywhere from 70-80 years or more after that war are not meant to preserve history in the sense many think it is, and it is not even trying to sweep history under the rug. The Robert E. Lee statue that started the whole mess was finished in the late 1920’s. The statue is in a place where many can see it, and serves as a reminder to remember their place in that State. Just like the memorial in Garfield Park in Indy. The klan’s influence had it moved to e more prominent, visible spot as a message to many who don’t look like them. How many monuments are dedicated to British soldiers who fought in the Revolutionary War? Should the Germans have kept monuments to Hitler to help preserve their history? Should Iraq keep statues to Saddam Hussein? Should the Russians keep the statues of Stalin and Lenin up? All those are ones that were taken down, and the history behind those people has not been lost, or even swept under the rug. The fact is that the notion that getting rid of these would somehow erase history is weak. There are still museums dedicated to such important moments in our Nation’s history. Just like there are museums dedicated to what Hitler and the nazis did.2 points

Indeed I did. I was in Eric Watt’s hip pocket all night. I believe the final score was 63-33. No argument there. In my experience, semistate games are better than the state finals. Something about the traditional football setting vs. the big indoor venue.2 points

Ive met Coach Radtke a couple times. I know a few guys that played for him at NJ. I know he graduated from judson, he coached there too and last i knew he had a farm in the judson area...seems like it's a full circle type of deal. Knox is gonna have some good teams and it wouldn't shock me if Knox made the trip to Lucas Oil this fall. They return a boatload of talent and now a coach thats went to state 5 times.1 point

I wonder, with the emphasis on individual drink containers, if the IHSAA looks at having built in hydration timeouts during games especially early on in the heat.1 point

I'm with ya on that. I have one at home now. Well, he's about 20 pounds shy of 300. To his credit, he has been working out almost every day at Lifetime Fitness and doing some running, but not nearly enough running. Then he stays up all night with the video games.1 point

The hits just keep coming to Portage Athletics. Would have never guessed a coaching carousel in the Hoosier North would cause a 6A Duneland school to lose their coach. I would like to see the Portage AD make a call to Roydon Richards.1 point

My interpretation of that is 2 fold. in phase 2: Contact is allowed as defined by Indiana High School Athletic Association (IHSAA). So you follow IHSAA contact guidelines in phase 2, which would allow the scrimmage. and ● No formal competition is allowed with the exception of girls golf. scrimmage isnt formal competition. just my thoughts...1 point

So July 1-6 isn’t a mandatory moratorium, but it is. And I am 100 times more concerned about heat exhaustion/illness by a player who hasn’t been working out in July heat than anything else. It is what it is. I’m sure they will adjust.1 point

And that dude is a school teacher too.. Scary to think hes in charge to mold young people and has kids of his own too. Its really funny he says I never look up things before I post and he clearly doesn't. I learned about how the parties basically switched platforms in the 60s by my 11th grade us history teacher and then relearned it in US government... Seems someone forgot what they learned or is he just a typical Trump Supporter that doesnt listen or read facts and only listens to what OAN and Fox news and other trump cultists tell him.1 point

The democrats of the the post Civil War Era are the polar opposite of the modern Democratic Party. Democrats were the conservative party who wished to keep slavery/segregation and Republicans were literally called the the Radical Republican because they wished to change the system. Redneck crackers like Lester Maddox, Strom Thurmond and Jessie Helms were all "Southern Democrats" until Dick Nixon got many of the racist assholes in the south to flip to the Republican Party. Modern Republicans are now the conservative party and Democrats (north and south) are the progressive party. Your take, sir, is pure historical idiocy. Only promoted by those trying to justify 21st century racism. Shame on you.1 point

Has probably everything it needs/wants in the Hoosier Conference. Good mix of classes, good mix of offenses and defenses they face, good mix of competitiveness in the different classes, a good cross-river rivalry, etc.1 point

From the end of the Civil War to 1960 Democrats had solid control over the southern states in presidential elections. After the passage of the voting rights Act, however, their willingness to support Republicans on a presidential level increased demonstrably. Barry Goldwater won many of the "Southern states over Democratic candidate LBJ who was from Texas. The Republican support continued and seeped down the ballot to congressional, state, and ultimately local levels. so pretty much in the 1960s.. The Southern state's got pissed off cause blacks were allowed to vote, eat and attend schools where they wanted.. And thats when those democrats shifted to the Republican Party.. And that's when moderate Republicans in the South (ones who were for black rights )started to become moderate democrats and most northern republicans became democrats..1 point

Fair enough. I'll refrain from correcting anyone on the archaic use of this particular word in the future. Archaic certainly fits the original user. Welcome to the OOB. I've been the grammar police here for quite some time. I told you when you made your first post in this thread there wasn't going to be anything to discuss here. Still holds. You must have me confused with someone else. Didn't get any memory courses for money you "payed" either, huh? I've never said what you have in the quotes. However, there is nothing grammatically incorrect about the sentence, so you're improving. Baby steps.0 points

I am not sure this is an accurate "picture" of the political spectrum. I agree that fascism and anarchy are opposites; but the spectrum looks at the level of control from a governing standpoint; the further left, the more control there is at the national level. The further right is less control overall, but the control is more at the local level. So, the extreme right is anarchy, while the extreme left is fascism. Now, if you want to raise the point about lines being blurred; no argument there, I would agree.0 points

As I posted about this in the New Normal thread: "Frankly I fail to see how thing kind of monument "glorifies" the south, racism, and the cause of slavery. If anything it is a reminder that 1,616 men died due to Union neglect and negligence, not in battle. Did they truly deserve that fate, regardless of what side they fought on?" How is this so controversial?:-2 points
