That was an anomaly due to there having been more than 320 football-playing schools to start the cycle + some success factor adjustments (and the Elkhart/Hammond consolidations) that caused 6A to dip below 32 teams (because the IHSAA didn't want to move teams up for a year) and the weird COVID year extending the cycle by one year. The plan, since six classes began, has always been 32 in 6A, 64 in 4A-1A and the remainder in 5A if there are 320+ schools, and 32 in 6A/5A and the remainder spread equally among 4A-1A if there are fewer than 320. It's looking like 32/32/63/63/63/63 this time because there appear to be 316 football-playing schools.

With both Whiteland and Harrison (West Lafayette) both growing signficantly over the last 5-7 years, Warsaw could very well see themselves in Class 5A by the next reclassification cycle. Especially if Cathedral accumulates enough points to stay in 6A. Interesting to note the Elkhart County and St Joseph County schools (Goshen, Concord, Northridge, NorthWood and Mishawaka) with jumps UP in terms of size ranking when compared to the Kosciusko and Marshall County schools (Warsaw, Wawasee, and Plymouth). For fun, I went back and found the 13-14 enrollment numbers. Interesting to see the trends for each school from almost a decade ago. I think the league is kidding itself of promoting something for their sport that drives dollars, then act like its horrific if their own players engage in the same. One year suspension for betting a total of $1500 on unrelated games? Fine if they want to slap a hand for an undesired behavior that had minor impact....but this? While promoting gambling to others??? I think we disagree about it being shady as well. When you "wallow with the pigs, you are going to get muddy"........ I understand the risk of betting on your sport....I am saying the issue starts further upstream. Why partner with betting services in the first place if integrity of the game is so important? As if the NFL didn't open that door a little wider. If its all about cash, then stop trying to pretend you care about image. The NFL showed us that plenty with the handling of other issues over the past few years.

This is exactly what I was talking about. Ours roll over, and transfer between school districts. They are never categorized based on use for us. We can basically call in sick whenever, and just use the days.

I am curious how the officiating clinic symposium with Gene Steratore was received: https://www.indianasportscorp.org/events/2022-big-ten-womens-basketball-tournament-ancillary-events I wonder if events like this, combined with a little bit of extra $$ might help recruit new officials. Officials LOVE sports, which like Yucca mentioned is the primary reason why they do it. I know I am speaking in broad generalities, but those individuals age 20-40 who love sports have chosen to live vicariously through their own children. I see it with my own elementary age son. His youth games have teams of 20 or so players but a minimum of 5 or 6 coach dads. I know other former officials who no longer work Friday nights because it interferes with their kid's fall travel sport schedules. In my opinion, that is the competition for sport-loving individuals who might have chosen to stay involved by officiating. Addressing pay is necessary, but tapping into that mindset is what will help recruit more officials IMO. Maybe holding more events and clinics where the selfie generation gets to take a picture with the Gene Steratores, Ed Hoculis, and Bob Parkers of the world will help?

Ok, I will go real slow so you can keep up. There were 30 teams in 6A last year and 37 in 5A. That is not 32 and 32. Two 6A programs were in the Sectional finals without playing a game. This is not balanced.

Man, get with what we are talking about. They are trying to make the classes more balanced. They do not want a team to go over two weeks without playing. Everybody knows the 32/64 number.
