Coach Hummer was my freshman coach in 1969 at Rensselaer Central. Coach Siderwitz, Coach Geisman and Coach Hummer all influenced the direction I chose. Coach Hummer was an outstanding classroom teacher and an inspirational coach on the gridiron. I remember his wit and smile as if it were yesterday. My prayers go out for him and to his family! Coach Hummer was my 8th Social Studies teacher and what a GREAT one he was as he was also my Freshman Football Coach at Rensselaer in 1967. What a great Teacher and Coach with a wonderful sense of humor. As I moved on to varsity football under Coach Siderwicz Coach Hummer was always there supporting us and pushing on. As Coach Gilbert stated Coach Hummer, Siderwicz, Geesman, Burvan, and Brandenburg had a big impact on the community of Rensselaer and my future in coaching. As I entered coaching Coach Hummer was also a person I could talk with for guidance. My Prayers also go out to him and his family! God Bless.

Please keep retired coach Dale Hummer in your thoughts and prayers. He’s battling the big C and the outlook isn’t looking good. His head coaching career started at Fountain Central in 1973. He led the Mustangs to back to back undefeated seasons in 75 and 76 and playoff spots. In 1978 FC was 1A runner up to Lawrenceburg. He left Fountain Central after the 1980-81 school year and went to Bloomington South. He didn’t have the success there that was expected and from what I remember didn’t have much support for the administration. He ended up at Dekalb and led them to a state title. Coach Hummer was responsible for launching the coaching careers for several successful coaches including, Gene Jellybean Rowe, Rick Malone, Brian Moore and one of the best in Myron Mo Moiarity. I’m sure there’s many more. Thanks everyone ✌️💙

It is not the first time. Mike Bohn led the nation in rushing in 1993 while leading Roncalli to a State title. Award went to an O-lineman.

Luke Hansen objectively had the better season. CG and Roncalli had two common opponents, Columbus North and Franklin Central. Coyle had 52 carries for 193 yards and 2 TD. Hansen had 61 carries for 489 yards and 6 TDs (plus 2 receptions for 66 yards and another score). The comparison gets uglier when you start looking at Coyle’s numbers against Trinity and Hansen’s numbers against Elder and Male (Male beat Trinity and Elder beat St X that also beat Trinity). In the end, Coach Moore carries the day. It is what it is. Luke is already on to wrestling.

Correct. Did that last week when I sparred with @Coach Nowlin. Look, plenty of guys have rushed for 2500+ yards (don’t have the numbers in front of me) and not won the award but 3100 yards on a 12-2 team that played a top 20 schedule and to not even win your POSITION award is unheard of. There has to be more to the story.

I don't care what his offensive line was like. He carried the ball 30 times a game against a very very tough schedule. Obviously he meant a tremendous amount to his team. I think he got screwed. He deserved to win it.

Nobody said stats don't matter. I said they aren't the only thing that matters. If they were then we'd just give out the award to the leading rusher or passer every year. I did say defensive stats don't matter because they don't. This is a running back award.

Roncalli played Warren twice, BD, Carmel, Cathedral twice?

Totally fine with it. It is what it is. Both are good. Making it to the state finals and winning definitely helps. Nobody gets anywhere by comparing opponents and games. Seeing both in person this year, I personally feel Coyle was faster and much more dynamic. Against better talent. Not taking anything away from Roncalli runningback. Just seeing it as I see it. Coaches vote on this as well. I trust their preference.

Wasn’t Jaylon Smith’s talent on both sides of the ball considered the difference maker for him in 2012? And I can definitely think of a Week 3 game Roncalli almost certainly loses this year without him….. To be honest, they also almost certainly lose the first East Central game as well. That’s 4 losses.

It matters, substantially. He’s ineligible for Mr. Football now. Everyone on this board knows that Drayk Bowen is going to win Mr. Football and everyone knows the selection process is going to factor in both his offensive and defensive prowess into the equation.

Try to rise above the level of a middle schooler. I have no narrative other than pointing out the fallacies of your takes. It is a position award. The position is running back.

I dislike Roncalli's football program as much as the next guy, but pretty egregious for him not to win this award. With Wheat going down and Coyle picking up the slack on top of Thomeson running for an additional 1000 yards, think it might be safe to say it's Center Grove who can afford to pick and plug whomever they want into the lineup. And that isn't a knock on Coyle either, just a testament to how stacked Center Grove is. Also Walker over Tibbs? Unless MaxPreps is wrong, Tibbs had almost double the catches, more yards, and more TD's.

Honestly I'd love to hear some of the logic used to not vote for him. It's one thing to debate whether he should've been the overall Mr. Football, but to not give him the positional is highway robbery imo...

Sorry, don't have myself signed into my cell phone but yes, I was, and then slept for 4 hours and went to Bears Packers game. just made too much sense, though, Louisville HAS to be excited to see Cincy ridding themselves of Satterfield Trust me, I hope he does too, great guy, literally so geniunine, I've had opportunities to sit down , have a nice cold one and just talk ball with him like he was a regular fella at the bar. Hate to see him go as well, but how does he tell his family NO a 2nd time when he has done EVERYTHING he has said he would do at Purdue, MINUS winning the B10 title.

Including receptions, the kid touched the ball on over 50 percent of Roncalli’s offensive snaps…averaging over 30 touches per game. Then, went out and played defense. At a 4A school, against a top 20 schedule. Taking NOTHING away from Coyle but this is absolutely criminal.

No other horses in the stable is not what I am saying but they gave the kid the ball 400+ times! If they had more horses, they would have used them, no? They had 10 other kids COMBINE for 186 carries. Kid also had 44 tackles, 15 for loss. Roncalli finished 12-2 and had four wins by 1-2 possessions. I’m comfortable saying that without Hansen they are a 7-7 or 8-6 team. (And no, that’s not a shot at their coaching staff.)

Michigan will run the ball down their throats. It won’t be pretty. The question is whether Michigan’s defense can limit TCU’s big plays. TCU really depends on those.

He has the quickest release of any QB I’ve seen, other than The GOAT. I guess that’s what comes from leading the league in getting sacked for a couple of seasons.

Haha. I love watching Burrow throw the ball. His accuracy is insane. Looks like the NFL is proving that 2018 LSU passing offense was indeed freakishly good with Burrow, Jefferson, and Chase.

I hope you're wrong. All I ever hear publically is that he and his family love living in West Lafayette and he likes the idea of building something special at Purdue. Him "building something special" was even mentioned during the BTT game. He has publically said before anyone can win in places that are historically good. My hope is he relishes the idea of turning Purdue into a consistant 8-10+ win team over going back to Louisville. Afterall, it is Louisville. How long will he be the prodical son without any ACC Titles or CFP births? Their fans are almost as bad as Auburn's when it comes to expecations vs. reality. To whom much is given much is expected.

Without Hansen Roncalli doesn’t win a state title this year. Better?

My dad played for Coach Hummer during his run at FC. Always heard fantastic stories about that group of coaches. My prayers are with him and his family.
