I want to publicly give recognition to Rodney Younis. No one in the Triton community has been as faithful and given sacrificially to Triton athletics as much as this man. Younis took over the reigns as the head football coach in 2002. His teams took their lumps competing against many larger schools in the old Northern State Conference. In spite of that, he led the Trojans to sectional titles in 2007 and 2008. In 2013 he retired from coaching football and handed over the team to John Johns, who coached for two years before unexpectedly resigning just before the start of the 2015 season. Younis stepped up when the team needed it and joined forces with Ron Brown to return to the sidelines. Together they led the Trojans to two sectional title games, winning the 2018 crown. When Coach Brown moved on to accept an administrative position at another school, Younis stepped up to resume the head coaching duties for another four seasons before stepping away to focus on his role as Athletic Director, giving Coach Whittaker his opportunity. Now, under difficult circumstances, it's once again Rodney Younis stepping up for the sake of the kids! I know many schools have coaches like Coach Younis, but I just want to say how grateful I am that Triton has a guy that gives of himself so sacrificially for the good of our kids. Kudos to you, Coach Younis! We're blessed to have you in our community! Thanks for your sacrificial service to our student athletes!

Looks good on paper but won't happen. First group of teams I don't really see any problems there other than what was mentioned previously with the time difference causing issues which is why it sounds like RC is out in the Hoosier conference anyway, so not sure what problems you solve with that. Second group a lot of problems. Cass has been in the TRC for 2 years and I think they are more than happy to be there. Northwestern just joined the TRC. Eastern left the old MIC because they didn't want to play any of the teams that are listed in this group. Don't know where Oak Hill and Eastbrook are with their conference, but they are usually at the top most years, and are very competitive. Peru and Mac left the old MIC because they wanted to be in the TRC especially when Taylor and Eastern were leaving and the thought was to just bring in Tipton to replace them. Third group if North Miami wanted to be in a conference with Southwood, Northfield, Wabash, Manchester, and Whitko they would have never left the TRC. I don't see why Caston would stop playing Pioneer and Winamac, and have to travel to the Wabash schools. Fourth group if Rochester and Triton would have wanted to join the INSC they would have done it last year(or for this year, however you want to look at it). Both schools would be competitive in the conference for football this year, but you have to look at it from all the sports views too. Not sure how competitive they would be in the other sports, as well as football moving forward. Also being smaller schools would mean trying to survive the year without injuries. If you do, sure you would be prepared for the playoffs, but would be tough to challenge for a conference championship in most sports. Speaking for Rochester, we like what the TRC provides. A mix of 1A, 2A, and 3A schools that will get us ready for the playoffs without it being a bruiser schedule that when multiple players go down, we are in trouble come playoff time. As long as there is a TRC conference(which I don't see there ever not being one for the foreseeable future) Rochester will be in it.

This is heartbreaking for the Triton community. Glad Younis can jump in and give some stability through the end of the season. Hopefully the boys will pull together and not allow this to ruin the good thing they have going this year.

I have long felt adding a fourth school and getting more kids to WV would put TH schools in a position where there could play in some of the local smaller school conferences.

I had my annual verbal spat with my brother a few weeks back who coaches in San Antonio about the ole systems of qualifying/all in and districts vs conferences. I think I won when I said, remember last year when you coached at a school that went 0-10, I am sure it was a real real productive last 3 or 4 weeks when there was literally NOTHING to look forward to or work towards

Yeah the only way a conference would work well for the Terre Haute schools is if they were joined by the Bloomington schools, Plainfield, Decatur Central, Mooresville, and Martinsville. That would be a decent little conference but I don’t think those four Mid-State schools would be clamoring for that. Three years ago, the Vigo County School Corporation had eight options on the table as to how they wanted to handle the high school situation. The buildings were old and outdated (including West Vigo) so they were trying to come up with efficient, cost-effective ways to address it. Renovations, consolidations, demolishing/rebuilding the schools, and the addition of a fourth high school were discussed. If a fourth high school was decided upon then they would then have to decide whether West Vigo would be affected or not. As it stands, here are the student populations: Terre Haute South - 1,609 Terre Haute North - 1,467 West Vigo - 518 If you add a third Terre Haute school and exclude West Vigo then you have 3,076 students to split among three schools. This gives you around 1,025 students per school if you split things evenly. If you add a third Terre Haute school and include West Vigo then you have 3,594 students to split among four schools. This gives you around 900 students per school if you split things evenly. Splitting the two Terre Haute schools among three schools is probably too big for the smaller schools in the Western Indiana Conference since they’d have just over 1,000 students each. However, they could form a new conference by stealing Northview and Edgewood from the WIC who have over 800 students each. Maybe Danville could be the sixth school. Or if the three Vigo County schools were split among four schools then, at around 900 students each, they could fit into the WIC. Never heard what the school corporation decided to do. Might have tabled it for a later date or might have decided to renovate. Regardless, you are correct. As things stand, the Terre Haute schools are isolated.

Would be great to see but man, that drive from RC to Jimtown would be brutal.

SC has been pretty mediocre since their team that drew EC week one. I know at the time SC had ZERO interest in leaving the MSC. That came from admin. They have however won state titles in other sports, but so has Brownstown. But given recent upheaval in the athletic department, who knows?

I haven't heard the overall record of the younger groups, but I'm sure GS once again won the Jr high and Freshman team championship this year. Congratulations! 🙂 Is that what you are looking for?

Spot on coach....John Wooden led Indiana State to a 44-15 record over his time there. He led ISU to 2 Indiana Intercollegiate titles and runner up to Louisville in the 1948 NAIB National Tournament. I cannot agree more with you on this. Rodney is like a father figure to many past and current players. Rodney will do what he does best and bring that leadership that will be needed during this time. That is one thing that I love about Rodney. He has faced so many challenges and when times have been tough, he has never shied away from facing the challenges that has been in front of him which I know is a lesson he constantly teaches because that is what he instilled in me as a former player of his. This situation won't give the boys closure, but it will show them that they can face the mountain they have to climb if they stay together and work as a team to bring the mountain down.

Based on conversations I’ve had, Bloomington South has no interest in the HHC. Like Columbus North, they see the conference as beneath them. They would aim for the Mid-State. Bloomington North, on the other hand, would like to go to the Mid-State (they tried a few years ago), but they also have considered returning to the HHC. I believe they’re keeping that option open in the event they have to save themselves should Conference Indiana finally fall apart. If I’m the HHC, I don’t see a need to expand. We can make do with 7 like we are right now and, if Jennings County were to leave, I believe we could also make do with 6. Nevertheless, if Bloomington North ever comes knocking on the door, I think you have to take them. But, if not, I think we should just sit at 6 or 7 until Silver Creek and Charlestown grow big enough to get an invite.

It's one of the best volleyball conferences in the state, and while it's a bit top-heavy, the top is also one of the top softball conferences around. NP, MV, PH and Yorktown all have really, really good softball programs (and Shelbyville, too, but they're leaving) and G-C is often competitive. It's also a very good baseball league - multiple programs have made deep tourney runs - and pretty solid in boys basketball.

Center Grove for many years ran the Wing T to do the same thing ball control. They have switched to a spread over the years because it has suited their personnel with some terrific QB's but their base and bread and butter is the Wing T offense. It is ran in their lower levels too and their players are well disciplined to it. Run what fits your personnel and Coach Sharpe done fine at Noblesville they are much closer to climbing over that hump than when he first got there. There are benefits to running the football and playing defense just ask East Central.

I would tend to believe the Maxpreps. It did say 7pm previously and was updated to 6:30pm. I think Maxpreps is controlled by school affiliated people. Harrell sometimes lags on the updates and I think 7pm was more of an initial default common start time state wide.

The Millers better move away from that antiquated T-formation to the spread so they can score some points. A 55-54 win is better than a 18-22 loss, right? Forget about defense, it's so overrated in today's IHSAA football.

I wasn't surprised there was a close game between Brownsburg and Noblesville. For starters it was a conference game they play each other every year. Secondly Noblesville runs an Offense that gives teams fits because they just don't see it often anymore. Their T-formation just does not get ran by many teams, but what it can do is eat up clock and limit the other teams possessions. if you look at the scores of the game the Millers usually stay within 7 points. They are 2-6 but a scary team to face because with their ball control offense they usually keep themselves in a manageable game they just haven't climbed over that hump yet to get the W's. Doing a National top 100 though is tough because those types of things can not be seen in an overall look. I did get to see Owasso play Jenks this year while I was in Oklahoma, they are a very good football team. Indiana does not look to be one of their best years on a National level. The level of play is the same as other years, but there is a lot more parity with multiple teams playing at a high level in the largest class but really not 1 dominant team. It didn't lend itself very well on a National level though. You do a great job with your top 100 Whiteshoe's, I usually peek at it and go find film on a couple of the top 25 teams you list just to see them in action when I have the chance.

There are several #101's in the country. First off, your Top 25 in the state is very good. Currently I have LN 5th behind Brownsburg, Westfield, Cathedral and Crown Point. The beauty is that we will have an answer to that question in about six weeks. On a national level, this is not one of Indiana's best years. Similar to Ohio, it is a down year which happens to most states, except Texas, Florida and California. I have Brownsburg ranked but they are shaky (see the Noblesville game). The poll was tough as only one team dropped out of the Top 100 (Douglas (GA) Coffee who lost to another Top 100 team). I often tell people the final 10 are tougher than the first 10. With teams like Tupelo (MS), Owasso (OK), Omaha (NE) Westside, Orlando (FL) Jones, Las Vegas (NV) Faith Lutheran, and the aforementioned Douglas (GA) Coffee, it makes it real tough. One thing I would suggest to LN folks, is that to make a splash on the national scene you need to upgrade your schedule. Similar to what Ben Davis and Center Grove are doing by bringing in IMG Academy and St. Frances Academy. Playing the likes of Fort Wayne Northside will not gain you any notice. I would love to have more Indiana teams in my poll, but I would get chewed up on my national boards if I did it subjectively. Give me some basis for the ranking and I will be glad to have them there.

Carroll, Delphi, Winamac, Pioneer, North Judson and Rensselaer....find a 7th school and make this a conference Peru, Maconaquah, Cass, Northwestern, Tipton, Eastbrook, Oak Hill and Eastern Caston and North Miami join a conference with Southwood, Northfield, Wabash, Manchester and Whitko Rochester and Triton join the Indiana Northern State conference with Valley, Jimtown, Glenn, Bremen, LaVille and Knox. Sorry Culver, Argos, Oregon-Davis and South Central.

MD/Memorial game is officially at Central next Friday. Game time on MaxPreps shows 6:30 pm, but John Harrell has it at 7:00 pm.

It's a step, but I also think add in what happens at the high school level; a 15 yarder for illegal participation. Had that been in place, Oregon never thinks about that 12th player as it would have put OSU in FG range.

Yep, happened to Westfield last year, just one home game, and that was against HSE in the regional. I believe CP had only one road game. If Westfield does have to travel up there again this season, hopefully the school will shell out the $$$ and send the team up on charters, and not school busses.

North Knox does a good job. Their coaches are some of the best in the state. 28 seems like a lot of points to me.

I think Carmel might be too far gone this year with recent results, even feel Zionsville could make that one interesting in Round 1. If things go how I think they should from just mapping things out roughly, seems like the path sends Westfield back up to Crown Point this year. Really wish IHSAA would change scenarios for what determines hosting the next week, if things work out for certain teams, they could have 3 of 4 games prior to LOS home, where their Semistate opponent’s only home game might have been week before. Wishful thinking but would require real progressive thoughts of seeding or considering neutral sites by them.

Tell City or Salem... Tell City has had a little harder path lately. They lost both of the Terry twins to knee injuries in the last few weeks. One is out for the season, the other may make a return. Good luck to all in the playoffs!

I would like to see New Palestine in the Mid-State conference for football. I know there is more than football so I understand why they are in the Hoosier Heritage. I just think it would be cool to have them in the Mid-State

I hope it is Shelbyville. They definitely need a change.
