I'll be surprised if Heritage Hills keeps this within 3 scores. Luers has played far and away better competition in the regular season. They will have way too much speed and their Dline will out-physical Heritage Hills Oline. Luers 31-6.

Checking out Harrell's site to get a feel for how these games may go this week. The first thing I noticed is 4 of the 6 games are predicated to be 1-3 point games. The two that aren't are 3A and 1A and they are still only 11 point spreads. Good chance none of these games are big blowouts. Both the underdogs in the 11-point games are the private schools. The other interesting observation is 5 of the 6 games include teams that have never played each other (at least not in the history of Harrell's database). This could be one of the most interesting state finals in many years. Good luck to all the teams and congrats to the crews selected to work the games.

Generally by the time the pancake happens and the blocker would be able to get up, the runner is long gone. The exception might be a T who blocks a DE and they are still on the ground with the passer in the pocket. But for the most part this situation would not result in a holding foul. But it could definitely turn into a personal foul if the blocker doesn't get up efficiently or the defender gets rough trying to get him off. When I see this I get to them ASAP and tell the blocker to get off. If they know we are there, neither play is likely to do anything. You can usually prevent this from turning into a foul, but sometimes the players will do what they do.

I don't know that it's definitive proof that it's completely working, but if the idea is that it's allowing a greater number of others to have a chance at more success in the future, then I'd say it's leaning in the right direction. The biggest flaws in SF that I have tended to identify seem to be tied to the idea that SF was developed to provide a workaround a P/P issue as opposed to thinking about longer term success. This is similar to the wisdom of having Chatard SF'd to 4A only to play cute with assigning them to the same sectional as Roncalli or the 3A Catholic Sectional of Death. First, SF should have been based on a 4-year evaluation as opposed to 2-year for moving up. I'd suspect, although I don't have direct proof, is that the idea was to "hurry up" and get P/Ps SF'd up as soon as possible. The P/Ps that moved up in the first round, most likely would have also garnered enough points over four years early on ... think LCC, Scecina and Cathedral. Later on Lutheran. Frankly, I'd be OK with using four-year cycles to move up and a two-year cycle to move down. i think that would better address the issue of programs versus a couple good teams and also minimize the negative impact on a team that maybe had a good team for three years based on a unique pairing of kids as opposed to a program. Second big mistake was requiring 4 points to stay originally. If it had been 2 points, looking at just LCC, they would not have returned to 1A to pick up a state title in 2015. The question is also, in those couple years when LCC returned, Pioneer was having a phenomenal run. That's pretty much what kept LCC in 1A for an additional half decade or so. Had LCC stayed in 2A, they picked up two points in their first visit, would they have been able to pick up sectional titles in those next three classification cycles? Haven't looked at the details closely, but the last four years since LCC returned to 2A, LCC has picked up three sectionals and a regional, so it's possible. In which case, LCC would have been absent from 1A since 2012 and not have picked up an additional two blue rings. The last issue is the recent monkeying with the points to stay up and moving it from 2 to 3 points. Again, I suspect this is directed at making sure that public schools don't spend any more time up a class than they have to; especially if the issue that we've almost all complained about is SF "punishing" programs for the success of a couple of team years. I think if you got SF'd and you can pick up a pair of sectionals the first two years that you move up, especially if we went to a 4-year move-up cycle, I think it's fair enough to say that a program is competitive and leave them there. I think that the 3-point rule is going to lead to additional yo-yoing that is going to make getting to some desired equilibrium much harder. Just my 2-3 cents take on it.

I apologize for the length of this post... I am not offended by your comments and I meant no offense to you. It may not matter to you, but as an initial point private schools are fundamentally different than parochial schools. They get lumped together on the GID in discussions, but their funding sources are vastly different. As an example, Cathedral is very different than Chatard, just as Memorial and Mater Dei are very different than Evansville Day School (which few on here probably even know exists as it is not a football school). The easiest way to explain the difference is that a parochial school receives significant funding from the diocese, through the various parishes. We don't have any private Catholic schools in Evansville, but in Indy, Cathedral and Brebeuf receive no financial support from the Indianapolis Archdiocese, but Chatard, Roncalli, Scecina and Ritter do. That lack of diocesan financial support must be made up in other ways at Cathedral and Brebeuf, including by charging higher tuition. You can see this if you look at their various websites. The 4 Indy parochial schools have similar tuition, but the privates do not. Because of the financial support given, the diocese has its thumb of the parochial schools. Not saying its good or bad, it just is what it is. You are correct, I do have a fair amount of knowledge on this topic. I have been involved at Memorial in one way or another since 1996. I served on the governing board for the Evansville diocese that set policy for Memorial and Mater Dei (as a consolidated board) for about 8 years, and then later on the board that set policy just for Memorial (after the consolidated board was split into separate boards for each of the two Catholic schools in 2010). At no time did either school "cut enrollment", although both schools experienced enrollment declines. Mater Dei was at one time 600+. At Memorial, our enrollment peaked at 815 in 2010 (I know that because it was one of my son's freshman class), but it fell steadily every year to around 550 in 2019. MD had a less drastic fall. There were many factors, the biggest being the increasing cost of tuition, smaller incoming class sizes from the K-8 "feeder" schools, and a general decline in "churching'. In Evansville we also have competition with a quality public school system (EVSC) and a nationally ranked charter school (Signature) that draws a lot of kids who do not participate in athletics. Memorial competes with Castle in Warrick County for students. Athletic classification by the IHSAA or athletic success in general had or has no bearing whatsoever on "enrollment decisions". We have actually adopted less restrictive policies (more relaxed dress code, acceptance of a wider variety of hair styles) in an attempt to attract more students. We have also invested more resources into hiring teachers and staff to be able to accommodate a wider range of students. Ultimately, the state adopting school choice vouchers was a big boost in helping the schools turn the tide on enrollment decline. You may be surprised to hear this, but I personally believe the state has gone too far with vouchers, but that is a topic for another day. Memorial is now at around 615, with the biggest growth being in the last 2 years. Every parochial school in Indiana is looking to grow enrollment in any way they can, regardless of athletics. I realize that doesn't fit the narrative, but it is the reality. I am not aware of any parochial school that has a waiting list in Indiana. Memorial has the capacity for about 850 students. I can tell you that if we could add another 200 kids to get closer to that number we would do it in a heartbeat, even if not even 1 of the added students played a sport. Your opinion that enrollments are somehow capped (or even cut as you say), has no basis in fact.

Your comments indicate you have little to no understanding of how private and parochial schools operate. There is no such school in the state that "cuts enrollment" in order to achieve athletic success.

Second best lol how many times did you beat lawrenceburg this year? And batesville beat Franklin county when it mattered. HH are the real deal!! Stopping 3 not as easy as it looks he can beat you with his feet and with his arm. Spying him sounds great and all but there not too many players in the state that can contain him. I thought batesville kept him in the pocket as best as they could but when they did he just beat them with his arm. Good luck in state I will be rooting for you!! The fans were very respectful besides a few bad apples sitting in the endzone next to the scoreboard talking shit to some of our students but there always a few in every crowd. Best of luck at state I will be cheering for you!!

It really is hard to go against Brownsburg. They beat Lawrence North who was "as good as Ben Davis last season." And they beat Center Grove who was "peaking at the right time and as good as anyone." On the flip side, Westfield obliterated one of the best five teams in the entire state last week. I'll roll with your score, Brownsburg 28-24.

Brownsburg 28 - Westfield 24, been riding with Brownsburg the entire playoffs and no reason to stop now. Westfield has an excellent team and easily dispatched Crown Point on semi-state while Brownsburg held on to win. I think destiny is what propels BB here as they came back from the dead against BD, squeaked by LN, and held on against CG. Either team winning would not surprise me as both have great teams. Looking forward to this one!!!

It definitely does not hurt! But you can bet the boys know they are going to be in for a dog fight this Friday. They know what it feels like to be taken lightly. No extra fuel needs added to the fire.

I'm interested to see how this plays out. When both were in 1A, they both had to get past Lutheran for a shot at a blue ring. Linton was able to do it, convincingly, to eventually back in 2016 toobtain a blue ring. AC faltered in three tries, culminating in three red rings. Linton has again knocked off Lutheran on the way to LOS. Wonder if that's any type of confidence booster for Linton?

Because they have admission standards, which is one of the things that makes private schools private. Every private school I’ve ever heard of will accept every applicant that meets their standards, as long as their facility has the capacity. There is no way a p/p would turn away a qualified paying applicant in order to stay within a particular class for athletic reasons.

It does not matter whether private or public. This needs to no longer be a topic of discussion. The only “advantage” most of these schools have is when they are in a more highly populated area. With that being said, it still shouldn’t matter. It’s a game played by kids. Every kid puts their pants on 1 leg at a time.

I'm going to say their enrollment is where they want it to be. The region Providence is located is growing population wise however, their enrollment has dipped. Since they can actually control their enrollment I'm going to say this is intentional.

It is all good man keep showing pride for them. In all fairness some like myself were staying reserved on Crown Point. They are very good, I could see on film they were good. I just didn't have a full gage for how good until they played a team that could match their size, speed, and strength. Westfield has been on fire since their loss in a tight game against Brownsburg. One thing many don't realize until they watch Westfield in person. Their RB's and LB's are decent size players themselves. they really pound on you.

My point exactly. These Southern Indiana fans don't quite grasp the level of talent and athleticism that goes on in Northeast Indiana, the SAC in particular. A slight win or loss to a number of teams in the SAC stacks up much better than big wins vs. county schools south of Bloomington. Just a fact. These HH fans will soon understand what I am talking about.

It was the public schools that wanted the p/p's to be in their own tournament after LCC won state 4 years in a row from 2009-2012. Everything was fine after the public sweep in 2005, and in 2013 there was a class 6A and a crazy success factor. Danny Anthrop had a lot to do with LCC winning state those 4 years. Please pray for the Anthrop family! Jade, Dru, Danny, and Jackson Anthrop's aunt, Mary Anthrop, passed away on November 9th. Mary Anthrop was a history teacher at LCC for 40 years.

I believe they also did this last year before the State Championship Game.

What do you consider Metro Indy? Brownsburg is a 10 minute drive on a good day from Ben Davis, and Westfield is probably 25 away. They literally fight with Carmel all the time about what land to annex or call theirs. If Carmel is a Metro Indy team and Center Grove is a Metro Indy team, then Westfield and Brownsburg are Metro Indy teams.

I believe this is Decatur Central’s 3rd appearance in the State Finals. They have lost to New Palestine and Fort Wayne Snider in the 5A State Championship
