P/Ps should be out of contention...they will always punch above their weight class due to the nature of the student population.3 points

Good stuff. So those outliers truly are top dog when it comes to pound for pound. Maybe we can even incorporate a formula that calculate SOS, W/L record and FRL to get an even more accurate picture.2 points

Hater alert incoming… Bill Peebles: 75% winning percentage at Cathedral…53% winning percentage at Southport/Lawrence Central. Kevin O’Shea: 92% winning percentage at Lafayette Central Catholic…56% winning percentage at Delta/McCutcheon/Attica/North Central/Twin Lakes. Just two examples off the top of my head.2 points

With the defense Rochester has to be the favorite to win the TRC title this year. The Zebra's D even got a brief mention in the Indianapolis Star this past weekend.2 points

Last year, New Pal had a running-clock margin over East Noble in the State Finals. Two weeks before, Chatard took New Pal to OT. That was the real 4A state championship game.2 points

Clarksville always lost a few kids to other local schools. Clarksville has gone thru some really tough times in terms of administrations not being committed to athletics. Coach Cooley shared some stories with me when he was there and all I can say is wow. Clarksville has experienced growth, but of the retail kind, I see most of the area Jeff/Clarksville and to a lesser extent N.A., as part of the metro area. People are fleeing urban centers for the suburbs. Now all that being said, young energetic AD, I LOVE what Levi is doing there, brings back an iconic name to the city……we’ll see.1 point

Speaking of such, interesting that six of the top 10 pound-for-pounds are outside of +/- standard deviation for FRL. Of note, with a couple of p/ps mentioned in this thread for comparison: Andrean/Chatard as a datapoints, here's a bit of comparison: Andrean FRL 25.3% (https://indianagps.doe.in.gov/Summary/school/2403)/Chatard FRL 19.3% (https://indianagps.doe.in.gov/Summary/School/2351) From the original pound-for-pound list - FRL % 1. New Palestine 24.8% 2. Adams Central 24.5% 3. Decatur Central 56.2% 4. Lafayette Jefferson 58% 5. East Central 18.9% 6. Heritage Hills 28.7% 7. East Noble 32.5% 8. Gibson Southern 23.7% 9. Westfield 18.9% 10. Merrillville 47.3% Indiana average by school across all public schools ... includes schools that provide meals for all of their students: 48.9% Indiana median across all public schools: 48.9% Indiana standard deviation across all public schools: 18.7% Indiana +/- 1 stddev range across all public schools: 30.2 - 67.6% +2 stddev or higher regarding FRL% impact (positive) numbers for public schools calculated using IDOE data from their site1 point

Success factor is not a good measure for pound for pound. SF points are determined by accumulating them in one’s said classification. Similar “ pounds” so to speak. Success in classifications that are above enrollment classification is a good qualifier, schedule strength and record vs schools above their enrollment is another, and margin of defeat vs larger school classes is another.1 point

De-hater sanity incoming ... LCC number of regional wins, 1976 - 2007 ... 32 years, prior to Kevin O'Shea: 2 ... 6.25% LCC number of regional wins, 2007-2016 ... 10 years, with Kevin O'Shea: 6 ... 60% Sometimes the right mix of coach and kids just happens to come together at the same time.1 point

Anyone doubting the impact of socioeconomics is either lost or is purposely leaving their head in the sand. I’ll once again repeat the line that I have stated on this forum for years… “If you’re going to be at a socioeconomic disadvantage, you better have an enrollment advantage.”1 point

I knew someone would point that out...I almost qualifed my response but didn't think it woudl be necessary. So here it is...any P/P that put any focus on football. Halfway decent coach who will end up being a legend, enough tradition that they can call someone elses field their own, fans that only show up if they are a state contender, etc.1 point

Talking to myself in this thread but I'll go ahead and add some commentary for folks to read. Every week is a big week, but this week will determine the NLC championship. Mishawaka can likely claim it outright. The Cavemen still have to go to Plymouth and host Wawasee to end the season, but I'd be hard pressed not to see them going 2-0 by large margins in those games. If Warsaw can spring the upset, there could potentially be 4 teams tied at 4-1 (Concord, Mishawaka, Plymouth and Warsaw). The Pilgrims (I get to use this term again now that the Tigers avenged last season's loss), are unlikely to remain in this spot, but they do control their own destiny with games against NorthWood, Mishawaka, and Concord to end the season. My best guess for how the final third of the season shakes out: Mishawaka: 7-0, 8-1 overall with wins over Warsaw, Plymouth, and Wawasee Concord: 6-1, 8-1 overall with wins over Goshen, Wawasee, and Plymouth Warsaw: 5-2, 6-3 overall with wins over NorthWood and Northridge Northwood: 4-3, 5-4 overall with wins over Plymouth and Goshen Plymouth: 3-4, 3-6 overall with no further regular season victories Northridge: 2-5, 2-7 overall with wins over Wawasee and Goshen Goshen: 1-6, 2-7 overall with no further regular seasons victories Wawasee: 0-7, 1-8 overall with no further regular season victories1 point

Wouldn’t have mattered. Floyd Central is the better team and would’ve won regardless.1 point

Some of you are struggling. I'll make this less complicated. Let's just figure enrollment and eliminate socioeconomic factors.1 point

Correct. Agree, not sure this is one of their better teams, but you've got to hand it to their program the way they keep rolling out good football teams year after year. Maybe the best program in the entire state.1 point

Or....Gibson is REALLY freakin talented as well. You know, that could be a thing as well. But I know it is hard for people north of Bloomington to even remotely consider Southern Indiana could have more than one good football team (insert eyeroll)1 point

HH will probably look back at this game and realize losing it was the best thing for them. Big heads for teenage boys need challenged sometimes. Not hating at all. I’m mind blown that someone above said GS roster is twice the size of HH roster. Is this true?!1 point

Not so fast sweetheart. Lets not get too excited. It was a hell of a game. A HELL of a game! And a disappointing ending for the boys in blue, but nobody went and turned their pads in afterwards. Still plenty of football to be played and as far as the post season goes, this loss might just be the best thing that could have happened for Heritage Hills.1 point

Attica @ Tenderloins - not much to say other than after Attica wins 1 the run into a power house of team. Sanders and company have their way and score as much as they want. Rp- 63 Attica 0 Little Rubbers @ Seeger - Covington is coming off a loss in which they feel like they should have won. They are also starting to get healthy again which could change the way they play. None of that matters as Seeger will beat them by 50 if not more. Heard there is some bad blood boiling over from last seasons game. Seeger 77 Cov 21 Little Ponies @ SV - not sure this one will be close at any given time. Sv has gotten better but not sure they can compete with the Herb and company. FC will look to get back on track this week with a big win. FC 42 Sv 12 Woofs @ NV - I watched the NV play against Attica this past friday. NV only had 13 kids dressed too. The culture Crabtree is building may be starting to stick a little bit. NV has some great players but I think the woofs are just too much. Nothing but praise for Rector and company as they seem to be the dark horse of the conference this year. Woofs 35 NV 61 point

Did you hear him post game? He apologized to people that lost $$. He said he thought it saw 0.0 on the clock around the 2 yd line but did what he was told. https://www.si.com/college-football/fernando-mendoza-apologized-for-late-safety-spreads1 point

I think Gibson Southern shut up all of the "Heritage Hills is winning 4A" talk. Can't see anyone beating Bishop Chatard.1 point

Chatard is 4A and Cascade is 3A but if it happened yeah. Gimme Chatard +35 over everyone in 3A and also 4A too1 point

Southport is in 6A purgatory. 1. A small 6a public school in Marion County… 2. Large Burmese population (think of what Muda states about Frankfort)… 3. Zero tradition… 4. A sectional with zero chance of advancement… 5. A coaching revolving door… Growth and expansion, affluence and homes popping up everywhere. Some folks will never get it.1 point

That was an amazing catch. Such a shame though....and then gets an obvious holding penalty on another touchdown play. Tough day for him. Also....cannot afford to play defense with 10 guys on the field1 point

we are talking about a school in a pound for pound discussion, citing that they will have a better odds when moving down a class. HH is most likely the 4a favorite playing up a class Jeff is literally moved down to 5a where they will not compete for a state championship. Jeff would not be the favorite playing against GS or HH (3a teams by size). 1. NP 2. CG 3.-4. GS/HH will omit Chatard/Cathedral, though in a true pound for pound chart they are absolutely on the list, in the top 5 most years. Don't know where to rank them this year as this is not their greatest performing year. Adams central omitted, I'm well aware they are good, however I do not follow them, and thus have no idea how good/where to put them, however they would be on the list somewhere Pound for Pound is literally robbed from weight class discussions in combat sports. there is no free or reduced lunch discussion to be had. it is simply how does small school compare to large school.1 point

Hats off to both teams, and congrats to the Titans. As a fan, you couldn’t ask for a better game to watch. Ultimately, the Patriots couldn’t get a stop when they had to have one. Both teams got better tonight!1 point
