  1. I guess my point flew over your head. To rehash, let's School A has 1200 students, and School B has 1184. Pretty close in enrollment, although School B is funded by the Rastafarian church and is an athletic powerhouse. School A's enrollment is based in an urban setting and has also enjoyed a fair amount of athletic success. The schools happen to be located less than 25 miles apart and happen to be IN THE SAME TIME ZONE. But they wouldn't be able to play for the same State Championship? Talk about next -level stupid...

  2. Two state titles? Who gets the asterisk? A state champion should be called as such because they were the best team in the state period. It may have come down to funding, facilities, and (dare I say it?) recruiting, but it also should come down to the will and athleticism of the players, coaching, and even luck... Gipper out.

  3. Look at the ACAC in 2019 in what looks to be a possible 2 team race, but could have some wild cards in the fold. My beloved Flying Jets took home the crown for the 2nd year in a row in 2018, but they will have an uphill battle in 2019 with many key players graduating. So here is the run down: Adams Central- It will be a challenging year or two for the Flying Jets. Replacing many key contributors on both sides of the ball this season. Gone are the electric Macklin, along with Bates, Hammond, and Yergler. Someone will have to fill the void of Berlanga on the defensive side of the ball. There is much pride and tradition in the program and the kids will fight all year long. Bluffton- Can the Tigers build off of last season is the big question? They have some offensive production that will need to be replaced. I see them possibly fighting for position with AC & JC. Heritage- It's been a rough few years for the Patriots. They seem to have a few great players lately that end up injured. Could they be a pleasant surprise or will the trend continue? It's been awhile since they have been fighting & winning the conference with Woodlan, AC, & SW days of old. Jay County- the largest school in the conference, the Patriots have yet to exert their dominance on the gridiron. If the trend holds, I see them battling AC and Bluffton for the 3rd spot if not higher if they improve on past performances. South Adams- the youth of the last 2 to 3 years should now be the experienced group. The Starfires are contenders for the crown this year if not the favorite, and could make some noise in the playoffs. No longer stuck with AC in Sectional (though they would be favored this year), could make for a deep playoff run if healthy. Southern Wells- like Heritage, the Raiders in Wells County have had some difficult years. Like Bellmont, this position was a late hire which may not bode well. I believe the culture is coming back, it will just be a numbers game. Hopefully the numbers get better and the Raiders can be contenders once again. Woodlan- the Warriors had a setback last year. I don't see them staying down for long, and actually think they will be the 2nd contender of the crown in this conference. I could be way off, but they tend to find talented players the past few years under Coach Haydock. They have a tough 3 game stretch playing out of state LCC who is usually good year in and out, then playing SA in what could be for the conference title, and then an always tough road trip to Monroe to face the Flying Jets getting into playoff mode.

  6. Sorry, not even close. If the "higher quality" student athlete argument were valid private schools should win pretty much every title, every year, in every sport. And if you separate the 2 you don't have a true state champion. @Gipper is dead on. You wanna get better, find a coach that will develop kids and a program to compete. Don't set goals to be average, otherwise you will be. The "private schools recruit" argument is a tired, lazy excuse.

  7. I think you missed my point....enrollment "only" falls far short on just about every level as being an adequate method by which to classify like for like schools....it's just stupid. In your example school B is probably a power house because of the nature of private schools to not only attract a higher quality student athlete on average (Mommy and Daddy expect a certain result for 15k per year), vs School A who has a certain percentage of kids there only because they have a pulse and the law says they have to be there. This isn't a "try harder" or " get better" issue. It is a level playing field issue. There are distinct measurable differences between the two institution types that provide school B with a higher percentage of student athletes per capita. I would have no problem with them not being able to compete against each other in the STATE tournament....because they shouldn't be to begin with. "STATE" tournament almost has an implicit "STATE FUNDED" feel to the word doesn't it....almost.

  8. All out of season activities are voluntary by rule. I did not say in practice, I said by rule. OK first of all VB is the scourge of women's sports. This crap is the reason my kid dropped VB. Her passion was Softball, she liked to play Basketball. Her HS BB coach worked with her. She was a good enough athlete she could help the BB team and missed most of the summer stuff. Even at schools the size of Seymour, sports HAVE to share athletes, some coaches get that and some never will. See my post above, "the placed on kids in the summer by coaches are stupid!"

  11. Our corporation does the same. It's a nice little break for everyone. Vacations are scheduled in that window, and being a small school a lot of athletes play multiple sports. Some time off is definitely a good thing.

  12. I haven't been on here in a while but this thread intrigues me. I have said for years that college coaches must take part of the blame for this AAU/Travel ball stuff getting out of hand. Instead of getting out during the season, it is more convenient to wait until the summer. I can speak from experience that both of my nieces were told by their volleyball coach, at a school in Indiana, you must play travel volleyball or you cannot try out. Isn't this against IHSAA regulations or is that just something that football coaches follow. (Sarcasm intended).

  13. You really think that? You honestly feel that enrollment alone is the best way to classify two types of learning institutions for athletics that basically have almost nothing in common? Instead of play better....how bout...play institutions with the same number of student athletes....not just students. It just slays me how some public guys will get on there and thump their chest with this, " we won't back down to anyone" rhetoric. We classify for a reason.

  16. Yeah, of course. It makes complete sense that having to obtain counterfeit licensing documents in order to scam people is "easier" than not needing to obtain any documents at all to pull off your scams, because the libertarians did away will all licensing requirements....

  17. I asked a few people l know about that who are connected to program and they all said they did not think Dwenger is losing anyone to start the season. I’m not saying it’s not true but as it stands now, they will be at full strength.

  18. What bitterness? The fact that we want the kids to have a summer? The fact that travel ball has gotten out of hand and costs families far to much money and time. The fact that football gives out far more full rides to college than baseball or softball or basketball.

  19. I think the biggest problem oldtimeqb and Coach Nowlin have is fall sports have a week where there can be no coach involvement what so ever but winter sports that do have Xmas break do not have restrictions like that during their break. Travel basketball, travel Baseball and travel Vollyball most times are coached by high school coaches and have many players that play for that coach during the school year on it. I feel that the Summer should be for kids to enjoy.

  20. My 'Beef" has been I have sat in IFCA board meeting since 2010, I have heard 5 times now that the state is going to make Basketball fall in line with football when it comes to competition days, workouts, etc. Just this last spring....... I am not upset at all about Mort week, nor am I about the football set up in the summer, we are far ahead of the curve, just stop saying the other sports will get in line going on almost 10 years when there is no end in sight for that to actually come to fruition. Wrestling, Swimming, Volleyball, Basketball "clubs" are nothing more then a get around and many get sold on the "exposure" tour if you will, for some it is time and money well spent, for others its not, and more power to those who do, just when it comes to IHSAA and summer restrictions it would be nice to see others follow IFCA lead.

  21. Surely you are not saying volleyball and basketball aren’t sports? Like Coach Nowlin said, my beef isn’t that IHSAA has a moratorium week. It’s that there is zero restrictions on summer club/AAU sports. Not sure going back to Aug 1 and 2-a-days would solve anything. I can tell you this much - every HS football coach I’ve known will follow the rules. I can’t speak to club sports.

  22. still waiting on these so called restrictions that basketball/baseball etc will have to be put in place such as what Football has in our summer rules........ going on 7 years I think..

And as one of the comments to his commentary states: If America Is A Racist Country: 1. why is there 900,000 at the border dying to get in ? 2. Why do people apply for visa's : In fiscal year 2017, the United States issued 9,681,913 non-immigrant visas and 559,536 immigrant visas. 3. Why aren't people leaving?
