  1. The Bowsman Strong movement was to honor a man who made a who difference on and off the field. It should remain reserved for men of honor on the gridiron. It should not be used as a movement every time someone in the state of Indiana wants to honor someone or something. It should be reserved for an elite level of situations.

  2. Northwood went to state in 2016 and went 11-1 in 2018. Concord has won sectionals 2 of the last 3 years. Northridge went 11-3 in 2014. Went 9-1 in 2017. Plymouth went 11-1, in 14, 10-3 in 15, 9-3 last year. Carry on, talking about crap you don't know.

  3. "Doc" Joe passed away a couple of days ago. He was a very good person and official here in southern Indiana...he will be missed on the field.

  4. I met Doc many years ago when he accepted a position as a representative from Southern Indiana on the Board of Directors of the Indiana Football Officials Association. A friend over the years, we had a number of conversations about the mechanics and philosophy of the referee position. But our conversations ranged well beyond football. A great guy who made a significant contribution to high school football, who will be greatly missed. The story of him coming back to work a state final after basically dying of a heart attack is inspiring.

  5. No. Not unless that situation is involving a prominent member in the IFCA community. We lower the flag to half mast only for the most important (and that term is not the right one) dignitaries in our country. We have holidays only for the most important people in history. And, in my opinion, leaving the lights on should be reserved for a very select few situations/individuals.

  6. So you are saying that bringing in New Prairie, Culver Academy, and South Bend St Joseph will increase the D1 football talent pool? Hate to burst your bubble, but, overall a little over 7% of high school athletes (about 1 in 14) went on to play a varsity sport in college and less than 2% of high school athletes (1 in 54) went on to play at NCAA D1 schools. Being a D1 college athlete is more than just showing up to practice. There is a lot of commitment to playing a collegiate sport. Let alone football! High school football declining is not just occuring in Indiana. Yeah, high school football participation dipped in Indiana. Fewer and fewer high school athletes are playing football across the country each year and, after initially bucking the trend, Indiana is no exception. Football participation was down 3.4 percent in Indiana for the 2017 season, from 21,589 players in 2016 to 20,849, according to the 2017-2018 High School Athletics Participation Survey conducted by the National Federation of of State High School Associations. It's not just in football, its essentionallt all over the place. There are only so many kids and the opportuniities for kids to play sports keep expanding. There are also fewer kids playing multiple sports. Kids have started to specialize now more than ever . . . . if you could the average Indiana high school has probably somewhere between 18-20 sports. Kids are specializing in volleyball, basketball, baseball, softball, soccer, etc. And, yeah, it happens at big schools. Football has, indeed, suffered a decline in Indiana, however, due to some recent studies, there has been increase in the number of high school athletes. From 2016-17 to 2017-18, there was an increase of just over 1,000 participants. In line with Ultimate Warrior, you need more than just a few lines of looking at rosters and state tournament success. Might I suggest DT that you do some homework and report back when you have something solid to report. As always, the game is better from_the_sidelines007

  10. https://www.cnn.com/2020/04/26/politics/trump-briefings-media-blame-disinfectant-comments/index.html (CNN)The furor over President Donald Trump's toxic suggestion that the coronavirus might be treated with an injection of disinfectant mounted Sunday . https://www.politico.com/news/2020/04/26/birx-trump-disinfectant-coronavirus-209063 During a White House briefing Thursday, Trump floated the dangerous possibility that Americans could ingest disinfectants as a remedy for the virus — a possibility that was roundly criticized and prompted warnings from health officials and manufacturers of household cleaning products. “I think I made it very clear in how I interpreted that. I also made it very clear, and so has Dr. [Anthony] Fauci and everyone associated with the task force, in their clarity around this is not a treatment,“ she said on NBC’s “Meet the Press.” Trump also promoted the use of light as an internal treatment, touting research by the Department of Homeland Security on how heat, humidity and sunlight affect the virus on surfaces. Birx said the focus on Trump’s comments caused the public to miss some vital information coming from scientific studies about sunlight and the coronavirus. “I think it's really important to see that sunlight, direct sunlight, may actually be able to kill the virus,“ she said on “Meet the Press.” The president later attempted to walk back his disinfectant comments amid the backlash. He falsely claimed Friday that he was “asking a question sarcastically to reporters” about disinfectants. Tapper capped off the CNN interview adding that “the source of the misinformation is not the news media on this. Suggestion!!!? Promoted the use of light? Floated the dangerous possibility Americans could ingest disinfectants? Tapper is wrong. The President was talking to the actual scientist (who was sitting right there BTW) about some of the things the actual scientist (that was sitting right there BTW) and teams like his were actually testing and had briefed the President on. You can probably bet the public won't hear about anything else anymore after that incident.......Thanks MSM......Those of us with half a sense of sanity (not the Tid-Pod munchers) actually like the briefings......

  13. After some further research . . . here are a few more positive numbers. According to Chris Kaufman (IHSAA), participation in Indiana high school football, grades 9-12, increased in 2019: 2018 – 20,217 2019 – 20,823 With the improvement in football headgear, pads, better technique teaching from coaches. Football, well, has never been safer. Oh, and one more thing, the life skills taught our young men by these great coaches are invaluable! as always, the game is better from_the_sidelines007

  18. I mean “Big George” was only a Freshman All American, 2nd team All Big Ten, and led the country in TFL’s by a freshman. Don’t see the need to harp on George for playing 3A football and being the best player on an undefeated state champion team. The MIC argument is completely irrelevant since George has already played a season of Big Ten football and has shown what he can do. Im sure Curry and any D1 bound DE hopes they can have as good of a freshman year as George did. We all know the MIC is the best football conference in Indiana doesn’t change the fact George had a stellar freshmen year. Maybe Curry will end up being better, but don’t try and downplay George because he played in 3A when he was one of the best defensive players on a Big Ten team as an 18 year old.

  22. SF personally doesn't see a problem if a few Tide-Pod munchers are stupid enough to think the President "recommended" drinking some Lysol. (which he didn't) but still - thinning the herd of a few of the idiots isn't a bad thing.....(IMHO) I pity your doctor.....Especially if you ask to review the clinical studies for any drug he/she prescribes for you..... SF heard a new term this morning...."Clinical Covid".....One who displays Covid 19 symptoms but tests negative.......Yet counts as a confirmed Covid 19 patient for the state numbers....... Also heard on CBS this morning the number of people testing as having the antibodies that indicate having already had the virus is as high as 80 times the confirmed cases in some states......which would indicate this virus isn't as much of a killer as first thought........

  24. Zantac had controlled clinical trials, peer review studies and FDA approval. It was sold over the counter for 30 years only to be recalled and banned because “science” indicates it causes cancer. I have taken 1,000 or more tablets of Zantac over the past 20 years. I realize science is not a quick process but 30 years is ridiculous.

  28. I just returned from grocery shopping and each week since the government shutdown Kroger and Wal Mart are absolutely packed with customers. These large corporations have ran all of the small independent grocery stores out of business years ago. Kroger and Wal Mart are the only options in my neighborhood of Indianapolis. It is ridiculous to have all of these businesses shut down to enforce "social distancing" and curb the spread of the virus only to have everyone congregate at the grocery store at least once a week. Eighty percent of the customers are not wearing masks and no one is maintaining social distancing. The Kroger and Wal Mart in my neighborhood are super centers and massive with hundreds of customers at all times.

  30. The Frankfort, Indiana Frito-Lay facility, the 2nd largest facility PepsiCo owns in the U.S., shut down yesterday evening for at least the next 24 hours for "deep cleaning". Supposedly several of their employees have tested positive recently. Also I have heard that the Subaru plant in Lafayette has recalled all of it's hourly and salaried maintenance workers, beginning today, for preparation of restarting vehicle production in a couple of weeks. Also Cass county, while being primarily rural, looks to be a growing hot spot for Covid-19 with 315 cases: https://bao.arcgis.com/covid-19/jhu/county/18017.html

  31. Trump was correct when he stated "The democrats are politicizing the coronavirus. That is their new hoax". Democrats do not care about working class people. Sowing panic is their only chance to win power in November.

  35. Adam Schiff on MSNBC (talking about the fact that President Trump wasn't impeached): I don’t think we had any idea how much damage he would go on to do … There are 50,000 Americans now who are dead, in a significant part because of his incompetence, because of his inability,” That statement is about as idiotic as someone who thinks the President "recommended" drinking Lysol....... (If you believe all those 50,000 deaths are truly related to the virus.....) Naw - this isn't political,.......
