  1. I'd add coaches in other sports who discourage students from participating in multiple sports.

  2. Not all encompassing and in no particular order: Where kids are more important than the team. Parents more concerned with position, playing time, and recruiting than winning. Where coaches aren't willing to put the time into preparation and/or building a program rather than just a team. Lack of or inconsistent culture. Bitching about opponents having unfair advantages. Avoiding playing teams that would make your team better. Unsupportive administration. Lack of a sufficient strength and conditioning program. Coaches who are unwilling to adapt their style to the different personalities of players and coaches. And obviously too many free lunches. 🙄

  4. Not defending the travel rule but cheerleading isn't an IHSAA sanctioned sport.

  5. It is really hard to find now, most of the links that used to work somehow don't... However, if you can find it check out the Senate hearing committee from January 24th, 2022. On that date a gentleman from the CDC testified with data about the dangers of the current vaccines (Cancers/ Miscarriages) as well as the uselessness of masks.

  6. I have gotten through 4A, 5A and 6A based on the 21-22 DOE Enrollment Data that was posted here on the GID as well as Free/Reduced Lunch % for the high school's based on this website https://www.in.gov/doe/files/2021-school-fr-data.pdf. Here are the schools that fit your criteria of bottom half of their class by enrollment and over 50% free/reduced lunch. Everyone - feel free to debate if any of these schools have had "long-term success". 6A 21 Southport 2379 69.22% 22 Perry Meridian 2373 58.50% 23 Portage 2269 55.92% 24 Lawrence Central 2245 64.11% 27 Lafayette Jefferson 2153 61.71% 28 Indianapolis Arsenal Tech 2111 67.18% 5A 49 Hammond Morton 1729 53.46% 56 Mishawaka 1584 51.21% 61 Michigan City 1526 71.01% 62 Fort Wayne North Side 1513 55.72% 4A 99 Marion 1036 69.33% 105 Connersville 981 50.77% 106 Beech Grove 968 58.01% 112 Indianapolis Washington 906 63.82% 119 Western 838 51.23% 121 Mississinewa 808 53.01% 123 South Bend Washington 801 67.34% 128 South Bend Clay 778 53.60% Just looking at it, Mishawaka (4 sectional titles in 5A since 2015), Mississinewa (3 sectional titles since 2017) and Michigan City (3 sectional titles since 2017) are the only ones who I would classify as successful. Marion had a good run with two Regional Championships in 2018 and 2020. Lafayette Jefferson has struggled in their sectionals with tough matchups usually including either Carmel or Merrillville.

  7. I admit, I don’t follow the Clinton Central cheerleading program that closely.

  8. @WWFanI think you should give us a Miner Pride style breakdown of what each team has coming back, projected win total, and insights to the upcoming season!

  10. God let’s hope not. Those poor kids were sent to the slaughter last year and had a 6 hour round trip bus ride to boot.

  11. I'm a big fan of linemen wrestling. Lots of lessons to be taught starting with leverage and hands. They get better conditioning in wrestling, and as long as they don't go crazy losing too much weight the benefits far outweigh the negatives.

  12. The NFHS announced the rule changes passed at last month's meeting in Indy. What are your thoughts on these changes? Intentional grounding not a foul if passer is outside the pocket and pass is beyond the line of scrimmage High-low (chop block) now requires the low block to only be below the waist rather than the knee (did anyone think was the rule already?) Player may now wear the number 0 (00 and 03 isn't legal) IHSAA can make the team box go beyond the 25 Penalty does not need to be accepted for offended team to start the game clock on the snap under 2 minutes in each half 40-second play clock used after foul by the defense Any official can request a new ball (previously on the referee - another one I didn't realize) https://nfhs.org/articles/revised-intentional-grounding-chop-block-rules-headline-2022-high-school-football-rules-changes/?fbclid=IwAR3Br9r3hQFNfo-9iucxy83utpXx2hf5f2rAuihi9m8td0FW9hUB1K-3dI8

  13. Over the weekend several schools had there cheer teams travel down to Disney for a national competition. How is this fair and equal that some can travel longer distance and other can’t

  14. Not a good idea to divert R’s attention from the passer. Keep in mind, there can be no roughing the passer if there is intentional grounding.

  15. We are going to have to think carefully about a 5-man mechanic to address this, as there are many situations on pass plays currently where the wing officials do not hold the line of scrimmage. Rather, they move downfield to assist in pass coverage.

  16. Long term success can be viewed in multiple ways I guess. I’d say looking at a 6-8 year window (so folks can’t just point to 1-2 strong classes) of winning seasons, more than one sectional title and at least 1 regional title.

  17. Draft up a contract…like Harbaugh’s. I’ll sign once I approve.

  18. I can’t help but think this is somewhat inconsistent with many previous posts lamenting the lavish expenditure of resources “on a game played by children.” I think it’s great. But I’m surprised you do.

  19. IHSAA rules only apply to IHSAA sanctioned sports. Is it fair? No. But it's also not fair that I'm overweight and losing my hair.

  20. The band plays in the Rose Parade or the cheerleaders compete in Orlando but the football team can't go play in Pennsylvania. That makes sense. Band, cheer and dance differ only because the IHSAA doesn't sanction them. It's time for the archaic rule of the IHSAA to be changed.

  21. The problem is there are so few professional athletes to serve as role models for today's youth as it relates to how to conduct yourself. Social media is the worst and the young generation views Twitter and Instagram as the end all be all. Another quote that I like that I feel applies to many of today's youth. It was said by Bryce Young's father the night he won the Heisman Trophy. "If you are the best at your gym, find a new gym."

  22. Mine was very similar, with a very small exception... "When you're good, others tell you. When you're great, everyone tells you." But you better not think you are bigger than the team.

  23. What is your opinion of Modern Monetary Theory, @DanteEstonia? All you do lately is add "Kill me now" emojis to posts. Not very productive IMHO.

  26. The IHSAA should give out 3 coaches passes if you have less than 4 wrestlers. 1 coach per kid is good enough. If you have 4 or more you should get 5 passes, 1 in each corner and another to be in the warm up area to get the others ready. I don't like the idea of wristbands, need to let the coaches be able to exchange for different weight classes.

  27. Sad to here this. Condolences from the South Putnam football coaching staff. Coach Fouts was part of a great rivalry with our two programs going back decades. He will be missed very much on both side of the field this year.

  28. An unsuccessful program thumps their chest after pounding an opponent with less resources than they do chanting "we're the best!"

  29. My turn? High free and reduced lunch numbers combined with not being in the top of your class in enrollment...a death sentence.
