The SIAC Thread

Jasper @ Reitz recap

The Panthers dominated every aspect of that game. I don’t remember hearing about or seeing a Jasper team manhandled like that. The Reitz offense is impressive. Hayden Summers might be the best player in the whole area, just a junior too. And I don’t think teams can really do anything about him with the other threats they have. Also, that sophomore QB is playing at a level way above his age. And then to the surprise of some, the defense has been lights out, especially when healthy. The Reitz faithful have to be feeling pretty good after that game and the VL-MD result. I think we can now say Reitz is the team to beat in the SIAC, although it won’t be easy for them as they still have North, Castle, Memorial, and MD to play. Excited to see how the rest of the season plays out!

Apologies on this. Hard to believe it has been that long now.  (Knew Ellspermann was the starter last year, so the struggles this year are really a head scratcher)

Probably because we are still missing our #1WR, but some of our younger guys are slowing getting into the grove too.

The “infamous/SIAC is crazy” power rankings

1. Reitz

2. Castle

3. Vincennes

4. Mater Dei

5. North

6. Memorial

7. Jasper

8. Harrison

9. Bosse

10. Central

This was hard, like really hard from 2-7

No arguments here. Can’t punish MD too much. Castle deserves the 2 spot

Couldn’t drop back Castle since they didn’t do anything to deserve being drop back. Vincennes is pretty self explanatory and gets the #3 spot over Mater Dei. North gets dropped to #5, a little concerning that the 2H was 26-20. Memorial barely edges Jasper for the #6 spot, starting to look like both teams are beginning to head for different directions until the playoffs, losing by 27 did not help Jasper’s case (although the defense is plagued by injuries).

A lot of my rankings are based on eye test and short term projections, but this one was pretty difficult

Three games in and only one team is undefeated.

Regarding rankings:  Philosophically there are two ways to rank teams.

One is forward thinking.  Which team is best if they played today and or moving forward?

The other is past thinking.  Which is best based on body of work?  (Team A beat B who beat C)  Both type of ranking systems have merit.

The schedule three weeks in happens to fit in such a way that every team can be ranked with a "past looking" system in which every team can be ranked with the teams they defeated below them and the teams that beat them ranked above them.  That ranking is as follows:  (And for the record I prefer a forward looking ranking system)

Reitz

VL

MD

Castle

North

Harrison

Jasper

Memorial/Bosse (These two only share Central as a common opponent so no one really knows who is better.)🤣

Yep. "What you've done" vs "What you can do"

I think my "right now" rankings would be a bit different than my "end of season" rankings. I think teams like Jasper and Memorial will be playing much better by the time sectionals hit, but obviously right now they'd have to be on the lower half.

Right now

1. Reitz

2. VL

3. MD

4. Castle

5. North

6. Memorial

7. Harrison

8. Jasper

9. Bosse

10. Central

Observations:

Vincennes took care of business against Central tonight and approves to 3-1. Central is all up in the air

Jasper had a nice back win over Bosse. Looks like Bosse had a nice couple of TDs, but it was a hard night for the Dawgs

No idea how this game went, but it appears Castle struggled a bit against Harrison, but did up winning. Heard Harrison’s D-Line is pretty solid

Memorial made an statement tonight to beat Mater Dei for the 6th straight year and controlled the game. Looks like they have found their QB1 in Fisher. Mater Dei will be good, but it seems like they were gassed out in the 2H

Reitz is #1 for a reason, absolute domination by the Panthers tonight. Brunson is doing a heck of a job turning around Reitz now, they have their HC for future. Looked like North kept it close for the 1H, but I’m guessing Reitz Athleticism wore them out in the 2H.

Overal, a very good night of football!

Can't wait to see Memorial and Reitz at Enlow....
