Pizza Shack Update... will now be called "The Shack" The building is undergoing a to the bones renovation. The old awning facade will come off that covers the upstairs windows so that space can become a lounge. The menu will be expanded to include grill items, the pizza and salad bar will remain. The new owners have extensive experience in the restaurant and food truck business, this is no rookie effort to revive a business. My opinion based on what I observed.....I don't think he held back the kids or the program, he did what he thought was best with his personnel. Along with that, he fought for years to get the middle school team consolidated. The sophomores and juniors right now were 7th and 8th graders when that finally happened. There are a lot of sophomores and juniors starting. I'm not taking anything away from the seniors, they are studs. I wish they had the benefit of playing on one middle school team as opposed to 3. But that's just one of the ways Weber got the program going in the right direction, rather than holding it back.

Many of the long term posters here, especially those from the old MWC and HNAC, remember MightyJones, real name Kreigh Hook, and his on again off again status on this website. Kreigh hasn't been on here much lately but is still active on the John Harrell forum. We can all attest to the fact that he is Winamac's biggest fan and has been a member of the Warrior basketball program as a statistician for the past decade. Kreigh has had a very rough year. In the past few months he not only lost his mother to cancer, but he also lost his house to a fire on the night of August 27th, which he, coincidentally, found out about after Winamac had defeated Pioneer to hand the Panthers their first HNAC loss. His house had been in his family for roughly 175 years and he lost everything but his mom's ashes in it. Mr. Hook needs your help and has set up a GoFundMe page. Based the results so far, I’d say they’re right in the mix.

Side topic: Texas and Oklahoma are gonna be in a world of hurt for a few years once they join the SEC…with a 16 team conference, you better hope Vandy is one of your annual crossovers/contests. I’ll rarely criticize a person/program for bettering their situation but I think their Swiss cheese defenses are going to take some lumps.

Coincidentally, I just came across this quote from Saban regarding Julio Jones: " ...We were coming off a 6-6 season, so they (referring to Jones, Hightower, etc.) came here, and they believed. They trusted in what we were trying to do to create a program, and they wanted to prove something. There was nobody we had that was a better leader, or did more to enhance the culture of toughness and effort than Julio Jones did. He used to run down on kickoff and would not come off the kickoff team during the game. There were a lot of guys that made an impact in the early years, but Julio was the guy who led the way." Interest comment from Saban. I can see how adding your best players to Special Teams can make them better, but also add to the culture of the program. I believe Urban Meyer took ST serious enough at Florida/Ohio State that he ran them and it was a goal for players to be on the field in a ST position.

As far as Weber being the right fit, I don't know. When he started at Linton, as an assistant, he entered a program/community that was rabid about football. The youth league in that small community fielded 3-4 teams in each age group. When he arrived at BNL, the youth league in that 5a community struggled to field 3-4 teams in each age group. He took the Linton program, that already had the buy-in, support, and desire, and he polished it. BNL, maybe, needed someone to focus on fostering that buy-in, support, and desire. Up to this point, Coach Barker seems to be that guy. Agree 100%

I always love opportunities like this in sports. We had a season about 15 years ago, where we had a kid that had been in treatment at Reilly, but he could not be in a contact situation. We made him a team coach so that he could hang out with his classmates even though he couldn't play. At the end of the season, we had him wear his uniform to the last game of the season and told him that we were going to take his picture for team pictures. He was still wearing his uniform during the game and, toward the very end of the game, we had a fumble recovery in the endzone for a TD. We were already ahead by two TDs before the recovery. For the two-point conversion, we called time and I went over and talked with the opponent's head coach ... I had already cleared things with the kid's dad. I explained the situation and asked if we could get our player in for one play. He explained to his defender what was going to happen and that contact couldn't be made with our player due to his medical condition. We put our player as a wideout and had him do a down and out ... we then ran the ball right up the middle just as we had told the opponent we would do so that there' was no chance of the ball being near the player so he wouldn't get hit/hurt. The kid was so elated that he got to get in during a real game, you would have though he caught the game winning catch. Just a couple of seasons ago, we had a similar situation with a kid that couldn't play due to treatment at Reilly and we also made him a coach for the season. For him, we had him be the on-field defensive coach and had him call the defense for the second half of our last game.

OK...funny story time........YEARS ago now, while I was at Cathedral, we pick up a JV game at Columbus East; maybe in 05; might have been 06, but I don't think it was....Anywho, before the game, their coach and I are chatting and he says by the way, we do have a kid, gave his number that I have long forgotten now, who has a prosthetic leg. In their uniform it was not noticeable. Coach says depending on the score, he will try to get him in on a special team. I said ok. Late in the game, I completely forget, and we are up big. We are kicking off after a score, and this kid is on the front line of the KOR. He drops back a few steps, and our is going by him, but they make contact, and yep, you guessed it; the leg comes off. Our kid FREAKS out; looks right at me, and I thought, OHHHHH my GOD, I am completely forgot. To add to the drama, the kid is hamming it up. And by that point, we are all getting a good laugh, including the kid with the prosthetic.

Prayers for Mr. Hook. In our community, when something like this happens, the church we belong to rallies. I pray he has this support group.

Adams Central and Parke Heritage did just that last Saturday.

My son kicks for Harrison's JV and also suits up for varsity, but hasn't kicked there yet. Last week, they played Brebeuf's JV. On his first kick, he had a boomer. On his second kick, the coach had him kick it line drive. He drilled the front line guy right in the head and bounced it right up in the air.

And to be honest, those cities you mentioned aren’t all that delusional with the well known practices that take place in the SEC. Saban and Bama just happen to be the bully on the block.

And you just know there are delusional and influential boosters in Baton Rouge, Knoxville, Auburn, etc. that think they're one hire away from having their own NIck Saban. It'll only force LSU's hand if they want to use it as an excuse to get rid of Coach O. They kept a basketball coach who admitted to cheating. They'll do whatever it takes to keep their football coach if they really want him.

I'm going to change my pick to Crawford Co. instead of Rock Creek. No real reason other than I just hope they win.

Suburban Grand Rapids school. Play in a division of the OK Conference, one of the best conferences in Michigan. Size wise, they are in Division 2 (out of 8). They've had good regular season success in recent years, hasn't necessarily translated to the post season. Beat a pretty good suburban Detroit school week 1, Covid cancellation week 2, this game replaces a second consecutive possible cancellation. Frankly....unless you want to see what a nationally ranked monster like St X looks like in person, it's probably the most interesting match up in the area this week. IMHO.

To answer the original question, the way to change it is to submit a rule change to the NFHS via the IHSAA rep, Robert Faulkens. These rule changes are all due to the NFHS prior to November 1 so you would need to get started now. You'll need to include justification, include all impacted rule references as well as all impacted case book plays. I'm pretty confident your rule change proposal will not have much success with the rules committee though. I believe similar rule changes have been proposed in the past and rarely make it out of committee or get much support from the full rules committee. 15 yards is a pretty serious penalty already and usually results in a first down even though not automatic. Looking over the past 2 seasons, my crew has had a total of 14 DPI fouls in 22 games. I don't know how many of those would match your description of a receiver getting abused well beyond 15 yards, but I don't remember any meeting that description. NCAA doesn't feel this needs to be more than 15 yards so I doubt NFHS will seriously consider it. We had one recently where the DPI took place 2 yards beyond the LOS but the penalty was 15 yards. I think that's a bigger issue with the current DPI rule. I also think it should be an automatic first down.

I’ve been involved in HS football for over 1/2 century, and I have been firmly convinced all that time that coaches do not put enough emphasis on special teams. It is hard for kids to be disciplined enough to consistently drive the ball the length of the field to score, without making mistakes. Special teams generate field position advantage that can give the offense short fields, and even big play scores. And special teams is a place where you can offset physical and athletic disadvantages with scheme and ingenuity. If I were a coach, I’d spend a lot of time blocking kicks and running tricks.

Thanks DT, Coach Schenk works extremely hard to not only make NP football better but to improve all athletics at NP. He is involved at every level of our program and is working to build the program within the community. Working to bring the community back to the school.
