The level of play across the board in HS sports in Indiana is dropping. I see a lot of HS sports and I don’t believe the level of play is as good today as it was 10 years ago. There are many factors that can contribute to this in each sport, however the one constant across sports is coaches having access to players throughout the year. Football especially I see some real problems on the horizon if we don’t make some changes. Several years back in a meeting at the IHSAA we were told that the student advisory council voted unanimously to stop summer contact. This was when Bobby Cox was still commissioner. I think Bobby had the right idea, but his tenure ended. The demands that HS coaches out on athletes is just stupid at this point. Some sports are obviously worse than others, and I think the IFCA has done an outstanding job of getting out in front of it. But we as a whole “athletic people” need to realize what’s going on and address it. Don’t take my word for it, talk to any multi-sport HS kid and ask their opinion. It’s way past time we start letting kids be kids and having fun playing sports again.

Having officiated their Semi-State last year.... their "bug a boo" in that game was the Eastside focus of play calling. A wonderful game, but a tale of 2 halves. Eastside ran the 1st..unsuccessfully. Then focused on the passing game in the 2nd with a multitude of success. Having said all of that. With Andrean winning the contest, trust me I was a "fan" that wished the very best for the 59ers at LOS. Thankfully, they brought home the hardware. Different year in 2022. Definitely a different road to LOS. I still will think that the teams in NE Indiana pose a very serious threat to Andrean.... but as some one said before....

I don’t think snider makes it to semistate. But again y’all can say excuses but crown point would lose to us if we weren’t missing coaches. We had 2-3 coaches gone for a few games. But it is what it is

Winamac still lost to them... calm down. It took a late game punt return to make it even interesting. Can't fault them for a brutal conference when they took care of business with everyone in it. Compare Carrols conference to West Centrals and it's almost identical. Strength of schedules aren't far apart but Carrol is getting credit for being good and not the Trojans, should be a good one on friday night.

I've worked or been to games the past several years at Carmel. The crowd is always big and into the game. The team is full of great athletes. Like many other teams in central Indiana they play very good teams every week and often in early rounds of the tournament. The last3 years their tournament losses are to Ben Davis, Brownsburg, and Westfield, all very good teams! I would hardly call what is happening at Carmel as struggling.

Going for Sectional Title Number ....... Eastbrook by whatever it takes.

okay bear with me this is gonna be a wild ride. first thing were doing is moving to a 15 game regular season, and forcing out of conference opponents, so we can get proper ratings for all teams. were getting rid of the mercy rule because its shit. were getting rid of the all in format. 10 points required to make it to playoffs 1 point for a win against a school of 400 or more 2 points for a win against a school of 1000 or more no location based games in playoffs, this bracket is seeded all the way from first to last. by sagarin rating. higher seed gets home team every single game. only one tournament all classes duke it out together state championship is a best of three played on the same day (so I still get to watch football all day), since it would otherwise only be one game. Mr. Football exclusively goes to a player from whichever team comes out on top, because lets face it, he earned that shit at this point. edit: I'm aware 'the best solution' is a stupid name for an idea, however I had to change it to that after a sudden realization about the former title.

I don't have much confidence in "the word on the street" or "I'm hearing" commentary especially when it calls in to question the toughness, attitude and grit of high school athletes. I watched several of their games this season and I saw nothing that indicated that Carmel lacked toughness or intensity.

I got 2 nieces and a nephew that graduated from Eastbrook a good while back. Pulling for them due to the fam connection. Think this game will be closer than 28, but wouldn't be upset if was proved wrong. I do, however, like your confidence!

It has been that way now for several years....south always seems to be a gauntlet, now adding Cathedral to the mix. But I agree BB has the horses and having homefield is a big deal. Their decisive win against BD in the sectional game 1 was an absolute eye opener.

Favorable or not that's still a gauntlet, would much rather be in the northern half of the bracket at this juncture. However, Brownsburg does have the horses to navigate it.

Don't want to speak too soon here, but Brownsburg has a favorable path from here moving forward. If/when they beat Avon @Avon this Friday they will get to play on their home field for the remainder of the tourney on their way to LOS if both Cathedral and CG continue to advance. Warren may be the only team who throws a wrench in the home field advantage.

I'd say 50/50. I think LCC does a great job creating turnovers as we saw in the Cass game, but if you also look at their regular season games they do a great job of it as well. One of the fumbles came on a kick return where I think the guy was trying to run as fast as he could and didn't have it high and tight like he should. I think two of the fumbles LCC had their players helmet right where Cass ball carriers had the ball tucked and made a good hit where the ball was coming out regardless. The other one I'd have to go back and find. I think the point you're trying to make is LCC will force you to turn the ball over, and you are exactly correct. If there is one thing I'd say the LCC defense has excelled at this year from watching their games its that they will force you to turn the ball over whether its a fumble or an interception. I think they are better at using ball skills to pick it, but probably not gonna get too many opportunities to do so this Friday. Rochester is going to have to hold the ball tight and really concentrate when carrying the rock. I'm sure it will be a point of emphasis in practice this week.

Not really a super interesting week but I'll share some thoughts: - Jeff barely made it past a middling LC team which makes me think that the Bronchos are still a step below the Duneland's best teams. Even though CP did not look good in the first half last week I'll take the Dogs by 3 TDs. - Merrillville will have a running clock to start the second half. Great season for Hammond Central winning 8 games and beating Morton twice but this is a huge mismatch. - Cheese-Valpo is obviously the matchup everyone is interested in. Chesterton has been on a roll the past few weeks whereas Valpo has flown under the radar pretty much all season. Both teams have physical defenses. Valpo's running game is a bit better but on the opposite side Chesterton's passing game is much better. It was a low-scoring slugfest the first game and I think we'll see another one on Friday. But I think Chesterton gets it done this time and clinches their first sectional in school history.

Washington deserves last place if nothing else for their new horrible team name. The USFL would have even rejected that one......

My angle looked like he timed it perfectly, but my eyes haven't been the best recently, however, it looked fine in real-time and I didn't see any Reitz players pointing toward indicating an offside by Boonville. Seemed like it was a bang-bang sequence for the tipped ball in my opinion

I heard Carmel Dad's Club is virtually non-existent these days for football and two of the Junior High Schools have numbers that are considerably down. While its true they get move ins, they do lose their share of talent to Guerin, Brebeuf, Cathedral in some cases. Temp may have hit the nail on the head yesterday about Carmel's size finally catching up to them.

Is it cyclical though? Carmel had two B10 commits plus a few MAC/G5 caliber players. Not sure talent was/has been the issue for Carmel. Attitude, toughness, etc or in this case lack thereof, is generally what I'm hearing has been an issue for Carmel these last few years. Does seem like a culture problem much more than a coaching/talent issue. John Herbert just didn't forget how to coach overnight.

WC had a good season, and I would say the conferences are comparable. With that being said, Caroll is a superior team and will have a running clock on WC Friday night.

You know I didn't really want to change to much to do with the game itself, that would be a lot in one go. However, I would be more than happy to add it in there if there were interest.

I hear the Carmel Lacrosse team is pretty good.

They will look for any way possible to put Bama in, for this I am convinced. I may need to shower in bleach Sunday morning because I am rooting for Notre Dame AND Brian Kelly simultaneously Saturday night.

I am sure GCSN wil...wait... I don;t think Sullivan allows the video stream... come to think of it... I believe that's what happened last year regular season at Sullivan. We do audio at MEdia Five.. which is WQTY 93.3 FM.. but also at www.wqtyradio.com.. or www.network1sports.com. I realize it's not video... but we know football and the history and have the facts n stats. Any stat you hear on GCSN comes from my pen LOL... Greg Orman, whom I do consider a good friend...has done a lot with GCSN for Greene COunty Sports...county wide and I appeciate that... but I feel we will always be the source for LInton FOotball even tho far more people watch the stream. I've had a million people ask if GCSN could tap into my broadcast but it's just not possible We are unfortunately 2 actual competing entities. I've even spoke to the station about trying to delay our signal to try and match their stream so the places that want to...could use our audio... but it's a cluster. The only remedy would be that I join GCSN.. but I'm only interested in Linton Football... altho I'd do any Linton sport to be honest... I don't really have the time for all the basketball games or trips... but I tell ya... you never know what the future hold. I love doing MIner FOotball... and when Jared and the Lintonian were doing the Video Stream and using Media Five Audio we had a killer thing going... I wish it woul have continued. It may be that Sullivan is offering VIdeo.. but it would be through IHSAA and you'd have to pay. I'll check and see what I can fin

Really looking forward to this one. Think it will be a 4 quarter battle I do have to ask, is GCSN going to be broadcasting the game? And if so for the love of all that is holy can they find someone to commentate that knows even a little about football? Or better yet can they just link in to Miner Pride’s radio broadcast? My goodness the talk during the Southmont game was horrible… Go Miners!

As a former Duneland player currently living in Noblesville I’m fully convinced Noblesville could have competed for the DAC title this year. Outside of Crown Point, the DAC is now a 5A Conference. Lake Central and Portage either don’t care or simply can’t figure out how to be very good at football again. Cody is probably right that CP the team is likely very overrated. The coaching staff is fantastic you fool. Having huge lines, and that’s about it, doesn’t get you far post Duneland. Maybe I just jinxed that crap out of Carroll, but I don’t think Crown Point has enough talent to keep up with them. Crown Point is very methodical with no game breakers. I can easily see Carroll or a Hamilton County team countering with size and making life very difficult for the ‘Dogs.

Many things went wrong … but the only one you mention is your disagreement with a no call made by the guy with the best view of the play in the whole house. Were you watching on a computer monitor? From the stands? If “many things went wrong,” why single out that particular one? Everyone is looking for an excuse and the officials are an easy target. That’s what I meant by “the problem.”

Or the best teams actually playing in Indy on Thanksgiving weekend and not in the sectional/regional round… So sick of the word bias when facts are laid out for all to see.

Westfield won 4A sectional in 07. Lost to Cathedral in regional.

35-7 over Penn is eye popping. Even the Indy folks can attest to that. I respect Temp's poll. He's ready to bounce Carroll and Snider like a yoyo. Could be up, could be down. We'll have answers after semi-state. I will say that Carroll's win over Penn should have put them at #5. He's being cautious. Right now I have Carroll over Fishers and Westfield with Snider right about even with them.

Which team has the most Catholics?

I agree with basically everything said here. The Duneland is really down this year. I firmly believe Carroll is going to blow out CP in a couple weeks.
