Really?? Snider will be the best team DC has played this year by a good margin and I am absolutely positive nobody from Snider has said anything negative about DC. Having said that, DC is not the best team Snider has played this year and I can assure you, they have played teams bigger, stronger, and faster than DC. Snider will come ready to play

I agree, but, based on Penn's performances in State finals games since the coaching change in 2003, 2015 was the closest we have come to sniffing a state championship... We got a waft of that sweet goodness...but that is it....the other three attempts were just f'ing dreadful...outscored 174 - 21 I also would like to point out that most teams didn't even come close to beating any of those teams those three years. But, that does not excuse Penn's lack of, well, anything those three nights.

I suppose this type of thing would be fine in Indiana, but it seems sort of strange. I think @temptation said it, this almost certainly a smaller 6A tournament. I'm trying to clarify whether participation in this tournament would be compulsory or elective. Can see problems with both. What if East Central had never won a state championship before and they were mandatorily entered into this field? OR, what kind of pressure would that put on them if they had the option? Those aren't reasons to not organize a system like AZ's, just the inherent problem that comes to mind especially considering it seems AZ instituted the system to specifically address a competitive issue with one program in one class. Wouldn't a tournament that had: 1) 5 classes, 2) Understandable and reasonably applied success factor system and 3) Seeded regional groups--if not the full field--pretty much address most concerns, outside of those from the neutral sites crew, while capturing almost all of the teams that would be likely to participate in an open tournament? Also, single class ball was fun, and the environment inside Northside gym for a sectional often felt like a state championship kind of weekend. That's what was lost with class basketball.

Agreed with this statement. I posted in the NLC thread after the first two weeks of the season (when the Panthers were 2-0) that anything LESS than an undefeated regular season and Semi-State appearance at a minimum by NorthWood would be considered a disappointing year. Then they lost 2 straight conference games, and the wheels appeared to be falling off. The fact that they were able to keep it together and get to Indianapolis on Thanksgiving weekend is a testament to Coach Andrews and the entire staff, as well as the team coming together and the support from the community. As someone else already said, that Warsaw game was something else. First, the Tigers had an excellent defense this season. They only gave up 15 offensive touchdowns all year, and 3 of those were to NorthWood in the first half of that game. The Panthers took a 21-17 lead right before halftime, but Warsaw was able to score on a 2-play drive to retake a 24-21 lead going into the locker room and stole all the momentum. In the second half, it was just mistake after mistake for NorthWood and they imploded. They ended up with 5 turnovers for the game and didn't score a point in the second half. I know it's "coach speak" sometimes to say this, but I truly believe that's what this NorthWood team needed. They needed to get punched in the mouth, buried in the ditch to find out what kind of team they needed/wanted to be. Those losses to Northridge and Warsaw were probably the best thing to ever happen to the Panthers. I don't expect them to win, but I do believe they have an opportunity to be competitive into the second half with East Central. Go Panthers!

I hate numbers....not even close. Obvious you have no clue as to my profession. People that use numbers without meaning behind the numbers are foolish. I do agree that BD is heavily favored, but less about history and far more about their talent and coaching of their 2023 squad.

While a couple of players on the CP team can handle the pressure, they cannot block, catch, run, pass the ball and they cannot take on blocks, guard or tackle every player on the field. These two guys have to rely on the other 9 to not be overwhelmed by the moment. Another note... CP has found ways to win, in very tough games. If BD can throw the ball downfield and give CP more than one formation to look at....I think BD will control the game via the air. Penn ran at most 5 formations against CP... (that is I believe over by 3 formations) CP really struggled when Penn went 5 wide.

I don't believe the bright lights will play a factor . CP has a hand full of either state champion or state place wrestlers on this team . They have wrestled all over the country since a very young age . This stage will not be to big for them . Past history will have nothing to do with it either . If CP loses this game it will be because BD is the better team, period .

Just to clarify. The IHSAA (all though plenty of idiotic decisions) has nothing to do with the cost of ticket fees. The ticket fees are handled by Ticketmaster. Because the games are being played at Lucas Oil Stadium any tickets not bought at the stadium have to go through Ticketmaster. Ticketmaster has the market cornered on ticket sales and since they have arms twisted by using only them, they make sure to "sweep the leg" while they are at it. They also have Gainbridge Fieldhouse and do the same thing. Doesn't matter what event Ticketmaster will "sweep the leg" with processing and convenience fees.

I actually don’t think this game will be all that close. Luers may hang around for a quarter or 2- but in the end I see NP’s physicality wearing them down. Give me NP by 17

@Bobref isn't the only one. I've always been proud of that team, but the offense carried us. There was probably enough crow to go around until the next Thanksgiving. Elder's coach was right. We knew they were excellent; we knew they were fast; but their physicality was something else entirely. The got on you quick and when they were on you, that was it. They were easily the most physical team we played in my time at Penn. Hard to believe they lost twice. You certainly could say the same for Crown Point. Penn missed an extra point, had one blocked, and had a last second field goal attempt blocked. CP led by 14 twice in that game, too. Then you have the 17-0 lead against Westfield. I think you're right; this is probably a three score game.

You are correct Jake and Nick are Luke's older brothers. Jake St. Michael/Ritter/UIndy and Nick St. Michael/Ritter/Franklin. Luke is the first Purichia non QB in the family. Their father Vince is an Asst Coach at Chatard.

I suspect Lysander will be out of his coma soon and he would know much better than I.

You will see a lot of names of former Ritter stars at Chatard. Chatard has always competed well, but with the steady influx of west side kids coming in, I could easily see them in 5A on SF in the next couple of cycles. Ritter’s loss is Chatard’s gain.

I don't recall the point total change ever being mentioned by him or any reporter covering HS sports, but I must have missed it. If you have an article link handy, I'd love to see the article to learn the official rationale.

Taking a break from how awesome EC is, but I wanted to recognize coach Andrews and his staff for the job they have done this season. I know that the Panthers were 1 of the favorites to reach LOS in August, but it’s been fun to see this team overcome mid season adversity and improve tremendously since September. I realize that the Panthers have 2 of the top 5 college recruits in the state, but to get them to play as a team when 1 transferred in last winter and another was transferred out all spring and summer until a week or so before the season started. Nitro admitted in an interview he was playing for himself the first few weeks. A team that was giving up chunk plays in the run game to Plymouth did a solid job of shutting down New Prairie and Leo’s running games. Admittedly it may not matter on Saturday but to pull this team together when they could’ve checked out after 2 straight losses given the preseason expectations coming off all that happened to the program off the field to end last season has been a tremendous job.

How many Goldsberry's are there in Lincoln City seems like the last name Goldsberry has been around awhile (of course it could be my old mind playing tricks on me too). BC looked real good just before halftime after @Lysander stuck his tongue to the fuse box to the lights at Arlington. Then looked even better the next morning at Chatard (the Palace not Broad Ripple's Field of Champions). He had to go and spoil all the fun of having more home games at Arlington.

I think Snider/Chatard would be a good game. Other than that, 5A would utterly smash 3A. I think East Central might be slightly better than 5A's best. I'll know more after the weekend. But I'll take 5A's top six over 4A's top six. Let's be honest, no one said anything about 5A being weak when Cathedral was there. I don't know what your definition of weak is, but I happen to think that Snider, Valpo, Merrillville, and Mishawaka are pretty good football teams from the north. The "5A is weak talk is overblown" and it's mainly because it's not dominated by an Indy team when Cathedral isn't there. It doesn't fit the "Indy is better than everyone else" narrative. Therefore it has to be weak.

The biggest thing that has separatedv the success of recent HH teams and those of the past is perfection. I was a bit worried that we had lost the recipe for success. We were winning but not dominating. I really like looking at the sidelines now and it is full of former coaches, teammates, and fellow alum. People like Coach Winchell coming back is the excellence needed and expected. (Yes watch out... HH will have a Goldsberry and Winchell on the same field for three years after this.) There's no team I'd rather have to match up with in the state championship than Bishop Chatard.

Everyone gets upset about hypothetical rankings. Who really cares. East Central has an opportunity on Saturday to crown themselves champions of 4A, and that's all that really matters. After that, they can make the claim "we could." But in reality, we'll never know. East Central had a really good win over Moeller, and they want to use that as a basis to the claim "we're the best in Indiana." I get it, but when I compile my final ranking (which means nothing btw), body of work over the entire season is going to come into play. At the end of the day, yes, the Trojans are "pretty darn good." I think it's exciting for their program and fans that posters here on the gridiron are even mentioning them in the same sentence with Indiana's perennial powers. I'm looking forward to seeing them in person on Saturday.

Words have specific definitions. They’re not up for debate, opinion, interpretation. A transfer is when a kid moves from one IHSAA member HS to another one - not when they go from a particular grade school or Jr High to a HS. This isn’t my opinion.
