I didn't understand him at all. I disagreed with him. I can read John Harrell's website and know how many championships CHS have won. Bottom line, they have beat 2 major 6A programs this year, and was 3 points away from beating the state champion last year in the playoffs. Cathedral is typically always in the top 5 or 10 in 6A and always a contender. Other 6A schools face depth issues as well. Regardless of 6A or 5A, Cathedral has always punched above their weight class....and won tons of hardware. Hard to find another school that has placed many more into D1 football programs and certainly the pro's. There is not a team that looks forward to playing Cathedral in the 6A playoffs...not one. They are always one of the best.

Sure hope Center Grove and Carmel get back to their rivalry game and play for the Copper Kettle. Time for some adults to grow up and let the kids play!!

great memory in 2005 of not 1 but 2 different Indy stations landing in Sheridan when we came to see young freshman named Nick Zachary vs Senior Jake Kiger., a 35-32 Blackhawk victory. What a night that was. So many people. SO electric of an atmosphere Fun times

Every fan has a camera now. Most games are recorded and emailed to the TV stations. No need for the helicopter expenses. Most schools live stream their games, and that could be one reason why attendance is down at some schools. It's easy for some to just sit at home and watch their team, or teams. Me, I like the smell of the popcorn.

Sectional 21 is basically the HHC Tournament 4A Sectional 21 Beech Grove (4-5) at Greenfield-Central (7-2): The teams met in Week 1, with the Cougars winning 50-8. G-C bounced back nicely from a two-game skid midseason with two running-clock wins over Delta and New Castle to hit the ground running going into the tournament. New Castle (4-5) at Pendleton Heights (4-5): When they met in Week 3, the Arabians won a 42-21 decision. Both of these teams have been in the middle of the pack - PH beat NC, Yorktown and Shelbyville; while NC beat Delta, Yorktown and Shelbyville. PH has the HHC's leading passer in Colton Frank, but NC's Carson Bell is not too far behind. The Arabians finished well, with a 47-20 victory over Yorktown and a 42-14 win over Shelbyville, snapping a four-game midseason skid. NC has dropped three straight to Mt. Vernon, New Palestine and Greenfield-Central. Yorktown (6-3) at Richmond (1-8): The Tigers have had a surprisingly good season, led by a really talented group of experienced skill players surrounding sophomore QB Sam Tokar. The Tigers have posted a couple of signature wins over Greenfield-Central and Mt. Vernon, but they sandwiched a 27-point loss to Pendleton Heights. The Tigers should be very heavily favored in this game against a Richmond team allowing 52 ppg and whose only win is against 0-9 Anderson. Mt. Vernon (4-5) at New Palestine (8-0): The Dragons have gone to a running clock in all seven of their conference games, and played one of their best all-around games in Week 4, when they rolled up 49 first-half points in a 56-8 victory at Mt. Vernon. Sophomore quarterback Mason Meyer has had some more time to get acclimated to varsity football after a baptism-by-fire first four weeks, and has performed well. MV is averaging 28 ppg and beat Delta, Pendleton Heights, New Castle and Shelbyville in consecutive weeks before a one-point loss to Yorktown last week, which was decided by a blocked PAT. But the Marauders' success will likely ride on if Joliba Brogan has a big game. Last year, he ran for 200+ in the regular season against the Dragons, but struggled to find much running room in the regular season meeting this year. NP's Jacob Davis threw for 200+ in Week 4, and Josh Ranes has run for 100+ in eight consecutive games. NP's defense has allowed just one score in the last four weeks. Class 4A Sectional 23 Shelbyville (1-8) at Greenwood (2-7): It's a Hoosier Legends Conference preview, as both schools have struggled in recent years in their current leagues, so both are leaving to be the biggest fish in a smaller-school conference. The Golden Bears' improvement hasn't been shown in their record. Their lone victory was a Week 1 win over a Greensburg team that hasn't won a game since 2022, but Shelbyville's defense is improving under Pat Parks, and the offense scored two TDs last week in a loss to Pendleton Heights. Greenwood is 2-7, with its wins coming against Indian Creek in Week 2 and Mooresville in Week 4. The Woodmen have shown offensive prowess, scoring 20+ points five times, but have been vulnerable on the other end, giving up 35+ points six times. Class 3A Sectional 28 Heritage (8-1) at Delta (4-5): This one is a bit difficult to figure out. Heritage is 8-1, but rolled through a conference of mostly smaller schools - five of its nine games were against 2A or 1A teams - but the Patriots did finish second in the ACAC and have done so with a high-flying offense averaging 36 ppg. Delta has dealt with the being the smallest school in the HHC. The Eagles only went 2-5 in conference play, but one of those was an impressive 27-26 win over Pendleton Heights in Week 7. They've fallen to Greenfield-Central and New Palestine the last two weeks. Delta's experienced playmakers - Bronson Edwards, Nash Keesling, Nolan Carpenter, Zane Cline - will need to have big nights.

I am new to posting on this page, but have watched it all year. I am so sick of people bashing my Wildcats. I believe coach Barrett and Coach Blank have put together a team that will not only win the sectional we are in, but could possibly go very deep in the tournament. Coach Blank has made all the difference this year with the line, and rumor has it that he will be also teaching here next year! These boys have dominated the WRC Conference the last two years, and now its their time to shine! I am sure Donnie Baker and a few of his friends will quote and make fun of me, but I DONT CARE!

I think you misunderstood his statement. I took it as him stating Cathedral can play with these teams, but what really offsets is the depth. Not that they can't but if they sustain some injuries at offensive line where depth lacks it can make a difference. It has happened at the 5A level too when the Irish played in 5A. They did not win State every year they were in 5A. In 2017 they lost some good lineman to injury and had nothing for a very good Columbus East squad. They will manage through. Yes they did those turnovers giving an inept WC Offense a short field did them in. WC wildcat to Bell in goal line situations was pretty stout. With a defense like theirs they could run that a little more as Bell is a bruiser. I think QB 1 has done a great job this year replacing a QB like O'Neil. I would bet he came away from that game with some lessons for future games. I agree the defense has played well. It will be interesting to see if they can bring pressure on LN's QB to offset their WR speed and if they can bottle up the LN RB. Yes they likely are enjoying the benefit of getting healthy and tuned for a battle. I will restate Westfield has really raised my eyebrow the last 2 weeks. They had a loss at Brownsburg and lost their QB in qtr 3, but they were well in that game giving Brownsburg all they could handle. After that loss they thrashed Avon, Fishers, and an on the upswing Farnklin Central.

Haha just having a little fun. I do think it was a ticky tacky call, but wasn't the reason Guerin lost the game. LCC played great defense down the stretch. Not sure I agree with the fourth down call to go for it, but I also understand why the coach did it, LCC had all the momentum and must not have thought they could stop them. Like the ballsy go for two call at the end too. You are right tho, those darn refs don't get anything right!

There is a zero percent chance K tried to help Boom get the win record. Coach K is far too competitive for that. The Tigers simply had an "off" night, but at the end of the day they won. That is all that matters, no such thing as "style" points in high school football. You play to win the game, and the Tigers have done that at an impressive rate under K.

6A: Brownsburg over Westfield 5A: Merrillville over Bloomington North 4A: Chatard over East Noble 3A: Evansville Memorial over Garrett 2A: Andrean over Triton Central 1A: North Judson over Providence

This is how many states do it. You qualify for the state tournament based on your district record. Seeding and qualifying is easy because everyone plays everyone so it's decided on the field. #4 from one district travels to #1 of the next district. and the highest seeded teams host each week. As someone else said, this does require the state to get involved in the schedule game for the district contests but that wouldn't be difficult if you had a formula and applied it to each district. The schools could then schedule their 3-4 non-district games (assuming 10-week seasons with 1 fewer tournament round). This would also likely result in a centralized assigning system for officials which also would not be a bad idea. It would eliminate the occasional scrambling for schools or crews to find last minute officials for games. Fans would be surprised how many games are almost cancelled or postponed on Friday afternoon because they don't have enough officials.

Frankton at West Lafayette--Welcome to 3A Frankton but West Lafayette wins this one with a running clock. Alexandria at Wabash--Wabash has won 2 games and this game is a rematch of week 2. Just like the week 2 game, Alexandria rolls to the win. Eastbrook at Tipton--This game is going to be a good one. If Eastbrook plays like they have the last 2 weeks then this will be over early but I don't think they will. Adamson will have them prepared and this game comes down to the 4th quarter and special teams play. Eastbrook wins this one in a thriller. Elwood at Rochester--Elwood has a long bus ride to this one and gives them time to mentally prepare for the game. In the end Rochester wins this one with a running clock the entire second half. Blackford at Eastern--Eastern's wins have come against 1A schools. Blackford has improved and will make this game a close one. Eastern pulls out the win. Monroe Central at Madison-Grant--Madison-Grant is very good and laid it all on the field this past week. Monroe Central has historically been a solid football program. MG is just too much this year for Monroe Central as MG cruises to the win. Oak Hill at Mississinewa--This is a rematch from week 3 where Mississinewa won 35-0. Oak Hill has improved and has momentum going as they have won their last 3 games. Mississinewa had a few injuries this past week against Madison-Grant. Regardless of the injuries, Mississinewa is still too much for Oak Hill and wins this one to move on to play next week. Good luck to ALL CIC teams. I expect 4 teams to advance to play next week.

Congrats to Mississinewa for winning the CIC title again this year and going undefeated in the regular season. Let's hope the injuries that Ole Miss had this week are minor and the players can return this week. Mississinewa will make a run in the State Tournament but if the injuries have a major impact it will be very difficult run and will limit how deep they go. Congrats to Madison-Grant on an excellent season. MG will make a deep run in the State Tournament and they all stay healthy. Coach, based on what you’ve said in your posts here, I think there is really only one conference that suits your stated needs, and it’s the Greater South Shore Conference. There wouldn’t be any time zone issues—all GSSC schools are on Central Time—and the schools are all generally Rensselaer’s size. A few are a little bigger, but none of the league’s core members have more than about 600 kids, and nearly half are in the 400s or less. Rensselaer would be a bit of a geographic outlier—after Illiana Christian leaves in 2026, there won’t be a single full member south of U.S. 30—but even so, Rensselaer’s longest trip in the GSSC (Whiting) would be 20 miles closer to Rensselaer than Tipton is. In terms of competitiveness, there’s no doubt in my mind that Rensselaer’s strong 2A sports program would compete very well in the GSSC in all sports, but the league would not be a pushover, either. The GSSC has produced some very good football and basketball teams every year, and those have varied from year to year. There aren’t a lot of perennial bottom-feeders. There’s a lot of competitive and enrollment balance in the league, much like the old Northwest Hoosier Conference (pre-Lowell). In football, the GSSC has two divisions, although I think those divisions really need to be realigned, and perhaps if Rensselaer joined the conference, that might facilitate the realignment. The divisions are called “North” and “South,” and those used to be geographically accurate, but they aren’t anymore. If Rensselaer came into the league, and they went back to a geographically accurate north/south split, or even based the divisions on competitiveness, the Bombers would be in a division with Boone Grove (a football-only member), Calumet, Griffith and Wheeler, who have the four best winning percentages in the conference over the last 7-8 years. All four of those schools have had some very good football teams in recent years, and although Calumet is struggling right now, it recently (2021, I think) won a 3A football sectional that included Knox and Hanover Central. In terms of scheduling, you’d have four division games, which would allow you ample opportunities to retain some of your longest-standing rivals in nonconference play. If they went strictly on enrollment, it would be an easy split—all the 2A schools (Boone Grove, Lake Station, Rensselaer, Wheeler and Whiting) would be in one division, and the 3A schools, plus associate member Gary West Side (who plays in the GSSC in football and volleyball), would be in the other division. (I would hope they wouldn’t go that route because, with all due respect to Lake Station, nobody benefits from a Lake Station-Rensselaer football game at this point.) None of the other nearby conferences fit. Although Rensselaer is smack in the middle of the Midwest Conference, your sports program is too strong for that league, and while the Bombers would rack up a lot of trophies, the competition would not prepare them for the postseason at all. The Hoosier North only has a couple of schools that aren’t on Eastern Time, and you’d have some road trips in that league that would make a trip to Whiting look like a short drive down the street. The Northern State Conference, except for LaVille, are all bigger schools, most of them are on Eastern Time, and again, the travel distances would be something else. The Northwest Crossroads Conference is all 4A/5A football schools except for Andrean, and they’re a 2A that plays like a 4A. While I think Rensselaer would compete pretty well with a lot of those teams in many sports (including football), if your enrollment trend is trending downward, that wouldn’t be a good long-term solution. In short, I think the only existing conference that suits Rensselaer’s needs is the GSSC. The only other options are to go independent or try to cobble together a new conference, and given your stated time-zone issues, that would mostly involve picking off either the southernmost or smallest schools from the GSSC anyway, maybe along with North Judson to round it out. And honestly, I don’t think any of the GSSC schools would want anything to do with North Judson, both from a travel perspective and from the perspective of getting their football teams’ heads handed to them by a 1A school. And getting Boone Grove likely would not be possible because they have such strong ties to the PCC. The only reason they’re in the GSSC for football is because the GSSC doesn’t require them to join in any other sport. No matter how you slice it, the only existing conference that works for Rensselaer is the GSSC. And if you approach them now—when they need a new member to get back to eight core schools and 10 football schools—the timing could be just right. Personally, I’d love to see it. I’m a River Forest alumnus, and I’m interested in what’s good for our conference. Rensselaer would absolutely be great for our league, and much like Rensselaer, the GSSC really doesn’t have any options that are quite as good. It could absorb the four-team Great Lakes Athletic Conference, but there are enrollment and competitiveness discrepancies involved in going that route. I hope Rensselaer considers the GSSC as an option. I think it would be a good fit for everyone involved.

Dang man. That’s like the second time in ten days that an Indiana high school football player has died from a gunshot. Happened in New Albany the previous weekend to a Corydon Central player at a fall festival.
