  1. Well, at least Notre Dame didn't cheat. Right? Harbaugh had to cheat to achieve the level he did. Plain and simple. Not saying he's not a good coach, he is. But his obsession with winning the title trumped doing things the right way.

  4. I thought BK was a guy who would thrive in the NIL/rev share world, but maybe it’s more important than ever to have a coach that will get guys to run through a wall for him. Never got the sense that he loved the game as much as he loved what it afforded him. He’s the anti-Harbaugh. He’s 64 now. I thought I heard he’s negotiating with LSU on the buyout, which makes me wonder if he wants to play golf and will accept a lesser guaranteed amount in exchange for LSU releasing him from his obligation to get another job. I think he’d do well at any Big Ten school that has expectations between an 8-4 floor and 10-2 ceiling. MSU feels like a sure-thing BK project, but, like I said above, I’m not sure his heart is in it. If he did coach there they’d have to hold his feet to the fire a little bit on recruiting otherwise he’s gonna be on the golf course or at Diamond Lake.

  5. Kind of sounds like you may be channeling STC with all the little Hulkamaniacs out there... "What ya gonna do brother... When that Gibson scramblin' quaterback runs wild on you???!!!" 😄

  6. All of ND’s injuries easily trump everything you listed, 34-23 is not crushed. What USC did to Michigan is crushed.

  11. I don’t think a top level program touches him. Virginia Tech, Michigan State if it comes open, maybe even Vanderbilt should there coach leave. Doubt Penn State is interested, maybe UCLA???

  13. I am picking a dark horse for LSU......Jon Sumrall. Doing a great job with Tulane, and did well at Troy. Not a huge risk at this point for LSU considering the current state of the program.

  14. I don't have a horse in this race, but I've been to games at Castle when South played them, and Castle was always a hard out on their home field. I know absolutely nothing about the Castle team this year and can only go by South's games there in the past. I would have the tendency to go with Knights based on past experience there by the Panthers. Having said that, I hope the Highlanders come out victors in that game. If they do, Evansville North (probable next foe) will be an even tougher out.

  18. That's the kind of guy I want leading my team. Hardly makes him a clown.

  19. Just saying, there are rumblings out there that this team is pretty damn good. Not sure why you think they wouldn't win a playoff game. Like Cignetti said..............."That wasn't a win, that was a warning. We're awake and we're not slowing down." IU has the best coach in the country and it's probably not even close. Freeman is my guy, but I've gotta call it like I see it. "Dude is a clown." Remember that?

  21. MaxPreps has the teams and rankings here: https://www.maxpreps.com/in/football/rankings/1/?teamsize=8. I don't think MaxPreps does the bracket/tourney for 8-man like they do for 11-man, but you can go to each of the teams and kind of piece together who played who so far. That game right there, Waldron and Tri-State, looks like it would be a doozie. Last time they played, Waldron won it 22-16 and accounted for Tri-State's only defeat this season.

  24. A one score game with 4 minutes to play is not crushed or in complete control . OSU kicked a field goal with 20 seconds remaining to make it a 2 score game .

  25. My biggest example of speed is probably the 2023 6A State Championship between Ben Davis and Crown Point (there have been other years but this is the most recent). Crown Point had a couple of fast players at QB and RB, but they had not through their entire season played a team with the team speed Ben Davis brought Offensively and Defensively. When BD was on defense it was very evident. The CP O-line had not faced the speed along the D-line. The offensive skill players were use to their speed in open field getting them big gains but when BD could match that speed and then some with 6-7 guys closing once they got past the first level. I don't mean that as a negative for Crown Point. Center Grove had the same problem in 1998 and 1999 having solid teams that just got outmatched with the speed some of the MIC teams were bringing. It was in the early stages at CG of the speed development. You could really see it pay dividends in 2000 when CG had lost to Ben Davis in the regular season 29-14 and beat them at Ben Davis in the Semi-State with Zwitt and McClurg. They got banged up and ran into a very good Penn team in the State Championship 21-0. It took a few more years to develop overall Team speed. Since that time CG has been 5-2 in the State Championship losing 1 in OT to Carmel 16-13 in 2016 and losing another in 2019 to Carmel 20-17 (those teams were very familiar with each other having played in the regular season. It takes patience for sure and I think Coach Buzea has the Bulldogs on the right track. I think Coach Dinan has the Chargers on the right track too and they have stepped up their non-conference games the last few years.

  26. Was told one time by an AD that our band won’t be off the field before the end of halftime, but you can’t flag us, nobody effs with our band.

  27. Tough to tell, worked a lot of ball in Evansville over the years, not sure I ever saw “bad” MD team. But Goebel is gone now too. That being said I have seen some public school ball that’s pretty bad. I have a buddy on the staff at Castle, I think Castle is excited to finally get to play FC at home. It’s HS football who knows what a bunch of teenagers are going to do? I let history guide my pick in this game.

  28. He served his 5 years of obligatory service in the Marine Corp following his graduation from the Naval Academy in 2016. ("retired" in 2022) That is what makes this most disappointing after attending the Naval Academy and living to a honor code. So much for the code of not lying, cheating or stealing. https://www.usna.edu/About/honorconcept.php

  32. One could argue that a down Reitz team and a 5-5 Mater Dei team are still better than the entirety of the HHC. I guess we’ll find out for sure tomorrow.

  35. @temptation Why would LSU, Florida, and Penn State all come calling if Freeman wasn't considered one of the five best coaches in the country? Are those three programs just that stupid? @Komets2727 Freeman isn't getting run out of town anytime soon. In fact, I think he'll have a national title within the next three years. Could happen this year.

  36. As I said, the body of work. He’s 38-12 in his first head coaching job, including an appearance in the championship game, has taken their recruiting to a new level, and is a credit to the University. I’m well satisfied with what he’s done and what he’s become. And I think his best days are in front of him. If he stays at Notre Dame, I really believe one day he’ll be mentioned in the same breath as Leahy, Parseghian, and Holtz.

  37. At the school I was referring to, the band program put up more money than athletics to have the first artificial turf installed in this area. The band director took a level of pride in being disruptive to the football practices by kicking them off the field so the band could practice. My first year here, the AD was telling our coach what the plan was for start time and halftime. he was a prick about in telling us the game was not going to start on time. The officials for that night did not throw the flag at 7 pm.

  38. Thanks for the offer, I truly appreciate it! Transportation is not my major problem. Getting healthy is. I'm better today, even got out of the house for lunch today. I live on the west side of Marion County, near Covenant Christian, but I will either drive to the game or go with my sidekick of many years.

  40. PHJ - If this contest happens, I will personally make certain you get to this game. If you feel up to it, call/text me anytime 463 269-6064 and I’ll take it from there - it would be my pleasure. We can cheer for different teams and be gentlemen at the same time - it is possible.

  41. I always tell BOTH HC's that I will NOT start the halftime clock UNTIL they reach the locker room door!. I also tell both HC's at the pregame meeting: At at the 3 minute mark of both pregame and halftime, we will knock on their door for them to get back on the field. If for some reason they delay and do make it back in time.....well?? As for clearing the field (band/etc.) ...I've only had one occasion that I had to toss a flag. The home team AD absolutely TOLD me to do so! He had had enough of the Band Director's hijinks I guess. Turned into a 15 yarder as both teams had to navigate the band doing their 'thang' for 20+minutes of a 15 minute published halftime. Ugh.

  46. Can’t do that in 5A when there are more than 32 teams like there is this year. There should never be more than 32 when 1A through 4A have less than 64 teams each.

  47. Another very strange aspect of this play. Alexandria had 12 players on the field prior to the snap. The 12th player was able to get before the snap thus now foul. If he had stayed on the field not gotten off before the snap, it would have been a double foul. There would still be an untimed down, but it would have been from the previous spot! In a very strange rule anomaly, Alexandria would have benefited by fouling during the play!
