  4. I know nothing about this kid or the situation at Central, but being kicked off of a team is obviously very concerning. It'll be interesting to see how this all shakes out. The last thing anyone wants is a situation similar to the "Hopf drama".

  7. Absolutely. The Badgers are my second favorite team, albeit a distant second, in the B1G. Camp Randall is an amazing stadium and Madison is an awesome college town.

  8. In the South, outside of GS, I understand Heritage Hills has a QB transfer incoming from Central (?). I also think Lawrenceburg will be back....I believe their QB was just a Soph last year. I assume Danville will glide to Semistate again (unless TriWest beats then) given the alignments. That said, this 4 year starting QB investment GS has made will need to show some dividends this Fall (and should). Chatard has a lot of slots to fill. So much has to do with how the team syncs (I’d argue Chatard’s 2018 team was better on paper than 2019...yet the 2019 team was an absolute beast as it turned out). I still think the favorite from the North will likely remain the winner of Sectional 28...whoever that might be. Honestly hoping Chatard wins Regional simply because that will get them back in 4A.

  9. Actually started QB then moved to DB after week 2. Also plays WR. Talented QB that struggled with leadership skills from QB position. If HH can get this kid on same page he is a difference maker. Arguably the best athlete at Central and one of the top 2-sport athletes in SIAC.

  10. https://reason.com/2020/01/16/family-sues-dea-and-tsa-after-elderly-mans-life-savings-were-seized-at-airport/#comments The DEA then notified Brown that it was seeking to permanently forfeit Rolin's life savings. Neither Rolin or Brown have been charged with a crime. In the meantime, the lawsuit says the loss of Rolin's savings has left him unable to fix his truck, which is his primary means of transportation, or get needed dental work. "My father and his parents worked hard for this money, and the government shouldn't be able to reach into his pocket and take it," Brown said a press release. "We did nothing wrong and haven't been charged with any crime, yet the DEA is trying to take my father's life savings. His savings should be returned right away, and the government should stop taking money from Americans who are doing something completely legal." In cases like Brown's, the DEA seizes cash using civil asset forfeiture, a practice that allows police to seize cash and property suspected of being connected to criminal activity, even if the owner is not charged with a crime. Federal, state, and local law enforcement seize millions of dollars in cash every year in drug interdiction operations, much of being transported along highways and through airports. In 2016, a USA Today investigation found the DEA seized more than $209 million from at least 5,200 travelers in 15 major airports over the previous decade. Police groups say civil forfeiture is a vital tool that allows them to disrupt drug trafficking by targeting its illicit proceeds. However, civil liberties groups say there are few safeguards to protect innocent owners, who bear the burden of challenging the seizure to get their property back. ... This has to stop. Really, this type of government abuse of power would cause the founding fathers to roll over in their graves. This is no longer America, land of the free and the home of the brave. It is a defacto police state. Thanks uni-party.

  11. Oh, I wasn’t predicting that. I just think this is the first time it’s a realistic possibility.

  14. I heard from friends that he puts on a great show. Never saw him or Zeppelin live, but had friends in another band that used to play a lot of Plant and Zeppelin in their sets back in college. I liked his later stuff from Now and Zen and Manic Nirvana, but there's something about Pictures at Eleven that's unrefined and gritty, in a good way, that always intrigued me.

  15. It would be a shame if it is not Sandra Walter. It might be an even bigger shame if it IS Faulkens......Sandra shows respect to officials, coaches, AD's, etc. Hard to say the same about the latter.

  17. If HH can get the kid to buy-in to TEAM you’ve h gotten a difference maker in two sports. I’m not aware of why he was kicked-off other than after about 4 games he was dismissed by coach walker.

  20. So, I have been wondering the same thing + a few other questions regarding this. I have talked to some folks who have inside knowledge on how the voting works and how the voting took place. It appears the process does not work well for players who happen to be on teams which are head and shoulders above every other team in the class, like Chatard this past year. If you review the data (Max Preps, not perfect I know, but its what I have) - Kyle Cheek was absolutely, at a minimum, an Honorable Mention in 3A for QB. I would contend that he earned significant All-State consideration. Kyle Adams was excellent and more than deserving. However, Kyle Cheek would be right there in 3A and probably the state (all classes). Through November 20th, I took ALL the QBs in the state and sorted out the top 50 based on passing yards. Then, I ranked those remaining 50 based on QBR. Not perfect, but enough of a picture to support my assertion. Here would be the top 10: Name Pos Yds Yds/G Comp Att Pct TD Int Rate G Logan White - Sr QB, P 3802 345.6 261 344 0.759 42 6 143.7 11 Rylan Metz - Sr QB, FS 2576 234.2 190 270 0.704 31 4 132.6 11 Kyle Adams - Sr QB 3938 328.2 294 407 0.722 55 10 131.9 12 Maximus Grimes - Jr QB 1886 235.8 113 177 0.638 19 2 130.8 8 James Arnold - Jr QB, MLB 3168 264 158 271 0.583 43 6 129.7 12 Kyle Cheek - Sr QB 1978 152.2 147 222 0.662 29 4 126.5 13 Alex Stirn - Sr SS, QB 1894 157.8 118 190 0.621 24 4 126.2 12 Garrett Yoon - So QB 2332 179.4 140 218 0.642 28 8 124.5 13 Luke Goode - Jr QB 2778 231.5 175 286 0.612 27 2 122.1 12 Bailey Parker - Sr FS, QB 2730 210 205 323 0.635 39 6 122 13 Kyle Cheek did get an All-City nod, but you could make the case he was the best QB in the city as the QB who won Player of the Year stats would have ranked at #30 in the state, using the above math. Then, IFCA all state limits coaches to 5 nominees. I understand the spirit of the rule, but when a team clearly is better than every other 3A team during a season, doesn't it make sense that an exception could/should be made. Kyle was not even nominated due to the depth of talent on the team. The two all state, class 3A QBs do not even make the top 50 of this list. Not trying to say they don't deserve it, but the numbers suggest that Kyle Cheek sure does. So, not only was he not recognized in IFCA All State, I have to assume that the AP All State was a function of the press cutting and pasting rather than actually awarding based on performance as there is no way Kyle Cheek is not deserving of, at a minimum, Honorable Mention with the dozen or so QBs who made the list. SO, the way I see it - I agree - kid was more than overlooked and part of that has to do with a process which did not allow for him to even be considered. Ultimately, the team won State which is what the goal was, but history is written with Kyle Cheek "getting overlooked" due to the process, I think. An absolute shame. Happy to hear any thoughts/feedback.

  23. Agreed that this would have probably been a top 5 matchup in the state. I saw Chatard play twice last year and thought it would have been a great opponent for New Pal. I'm not sure how the RB isn't more recruited? Surely he has some offers?

  25. I know it's possibly not something to make a topic of... but I know he was a member here are one point, prolly still was. He was an assistant for a while as well at Linton. But mainly he was a lifelong friend of mine, my partner in the radio booth for many years of Linton Football... including both those losses to Ritter in semi state... both his sons were Miner standouts.. Josh thru 2008 and Tyler thru 2016 winning the state in 1A. He was a fixture at all sporting events in Linton... but football was his love. He had been running the scoreboard at the Roy in Linton these last couple years. He himself was a terrific athlete at QB and RB thru 1983 taking the Miners to new levels that really set Linton into a football mentality. I know a lot of football coaches and former players in the area will know him... Unfortunately, he was found deceased in his cabin after not showing up for work. Apparently heart related. He loved his kids, loved Linton Football... Godspeed to you John Paul Meurer.
