  3. Wow.. I knew how close the football field was to Lake Michigan, but that baseball stadium is impressive. Is it only used for HS games? Or?

  4. I know that Coach Mosser at Adams Central teaches social studies, as well as being their head track coach. Coach Sehy at Blackford teaches English as well as their head track coach. Coach Hess at Wes-Del teaches Biology. Coach Moser at South Adams teaches business. Coach Wilhelm at Yorktown teaches science. That's just the guys I know, and they all do a fine job. My guess would be that more teach outside of the PE/Health realm than you would think. That being said PE/coaching complement each other well.

  6. Big win for the Vikings in the opening round of the sectional. Knocking off Mater Dei 66-58, Josiah Ricketts fresh off breaking the career 2000 point club, had 37 points for the Vikings. Josiah now has 2038 points and according to the broadcast moved into 47th place all time in Indiana.

  8. I am 100 percent alright with that. My job as an educator is to educate my students. I want the best teachers in my building. Football which is a a sport that I hold dearly, however, it is an extracurricular. If that means out sports programs are at a disadvantage, but they receive a great education, I can sleep just fine at night.

  10. I taught Economics and Us History when I was a head coach. You show up early to make sure you have grading/ lessons finished. You can manage just fine. Now as an administrator, I want my coaches to be full time teachers. I believe that good coaches are great teachers. If you cannot teach how can you be a good coach? Coaching and teaching are very similar if you cannot teach the game you will fail as a coach, if you can not deliver content you will fail as a teacher. As far as competing with others that do not have the same teaching load, it definitely is an advantage for them. They have more time for game planning, reviewing film, meeting with players etc. Not that that always leads to more success, but they have more time to devote to coaching.

  12. Budget restrictions at small schools limit the ability to "lighten the load" for coaches. There is also union concerns, that tend to arise. You are absolutely correct in saying it is hard to strike a balance, that is why I think so many schools are finding it hard to hire committed coaches in a lot sports these days.

  13. Just stop. One year the HCC was comparable and it was STILL an all MIC final. The MIC is still by far the king. I have no affiliation to these conferences, but to diminish how good this conference is at all is silly.

  14. When Coach O'Shea was at LCC, he taught math. I recall, growing up, that almost all of my high school coaches for football taught classes other than PE/gym/health. I think we had a total of three that taught PE and/or health. The rest taught speech, government, history, English, and had one that taught honors biology and advanced biology teacher.

  22. US31 I probably should have been more clear with that statement. Prior to coming to Roncalli, Marsh didn't have a very good record of success as a head coach. With that being said, a winning season in his first year at Roncalli, followed by two poor seasons.... Scott is a great coach, just has lacked the results to reflect that from a head coaching position at this point.

  23. This should be Bloomfield's to lose if Turner Royal is anywhere close to 100%. If he isn't... who knows. Clay City seems to be well coached and they play hard. WRV is all over the place... Capable of winning the sectional and losing in round 1 by 20. Who knows?? Shakamak... sort of like WRV, but they are young at some spots. Youth is expected to be a little inconsistent. Eminence .... the 2 games I watched ... The Eels aren't consistent either. They played Linton well... the same night WRV stunk up the gym against Shakamak. Then lose to WRV by double digits. North Central is a bit of a wild card as well. Their is talent and athletic ability, but they can be their own worst enemy. That is sort of the whole sectional minus a healthy Bloomfield... whoever is playing well at the right time... they will likely win.

  26. https://www.reuters.com/article/us-health-coronavirus-autos/americans-keep-buying-cars-but-coronavirus-concerns-loom-over-industry-idUSKBN20P37Y The hit to auto sales in the U.S. probably won't come from the demand side, but from the supply side. It only takes a few 2nd or 3rd tier parts suppliers that get their parts from a factory in the Wuhan province and now can't to disrupt the entire supply chain, all the way down to the assembly plants.
