  1. In my opinion every school district should be able to make the best choice for the student body they have. Recently, there was a rumor in the city I work in that my school district was "canceling or shutting down" the season. We had a team meeting addressing the issue and clarifying what our plan was moving forward. We had multiple players express their passion about the necessity to have football this fall or any sports for that matter. Some of them, I talked with privately broke down crying explaining their situations they are dealing with in life right now. The reality of it is, where I coach and I'm sure there are more coaches in this boat, most of my young men have been working part time jobs to help make ends meet for their families or became the caregiver to their younger siblings. The question of should we return to football or not isn't all about the game itself but what it allows our student athletes to get away from and in many cases it is their home lives. I can tell you about many unfathomable stories some of my young men have gone through during this time of "quarantining." If we continue to push this virtue signaling and pretend that this virus is worse than, mental, emotional and physical abuse or even neglect by some of our young men's families. Then we are going to have far worse problems than just this hatred and bickering we are all privileged to take part in on this forum. What may be a problem to you, isn't even a thought in our student athletes mind. If you don't have any young men like I just described then please just try to understand why it is that important that we get back to sports this fall.

  2. This country has not even come close to going to the lengths many other countries did to slow the spread. Contact tracing and surveillance are just two things that come to mind. Anyone have an app on their phones here that sends them a message when they are close to someone who has tested positive? I am sure there are other restrictions they had in place that did not happen here as well.

  3. Are you kidding? We still have far too many chest-thumpers who are not going to let anyone tell them to wear a mask.

  4. Kids are not giving it to teachers because they have not been in school since March 13th. Kind of a no brainer there.

  6. Did you think “numbers” were going to go down after our reopen? Case numbers are fearporn and a simplistic view of a complex issue. Going back to school and sports isn’t going to make things worse in Indiana in terms of “numbers” that matter. Remember, crude case counts are only newsworthy when they are RISING.

  7. No it won't..haha. 1. This has absolutely nothing to do with the election. The whole entire world was going through this.. Majority of the first world countries took it serious and have it under control. We had states rush to open (see Texas, Arizona, Florida and Georgia) and states not take it serious at all and not close. We had people not taking this serious... Which is why we've never gotten out of the first stage This also has nothing to do with the election because the NBA and NHL postponed their season and the MLB delayed their start. NCAA cancelled spring sports and their winter tournaments as well... That's a whole lot of money lost. If this was a hoax they would have not shut down sports or they would have continued to keep pro sports shut down. Once again you post stuff that's not backed up by facts. There are no people out there that could get all the countries in the world + all major leagues sports to stop what they are doing and lose millions.. Just to get trump not re elected. #2 Michael Flynn lied and was caught lying. He should be in prison.

  8. The only think I say it is, is proof that your statement "Its also been said before, and backed by data that kids are not dying from covid. Also backed by studies. " is not right.

  10. My body my choice? The selfishness of that comment is enough for me. You are an idiot. This isn't a veiled shot it is the truth. @Bobref is a thousand times the official you are and it sounds like he is a thousand times the man you are. I feel sorry for you and your belief system and I hope your students won't listen to your drivel. I'm still waiting on your 99.9%.

  11. Yes. Those young college athletes that are so scared of the virus they attend house parties, nightclubs, and my personal favorite the NBA player who just went to the strip club - I mean restaurant - because he likes the hot wings. We get it. You’re scared to live your life. Flatten the curve, wait for a vaccine, what about the long term effects... keep moving those goalposts.

  13. Hopefully the IHSAA and individual schools will be smart and stop all outside athletic activities, such as baseball, basketball, and softball since they are not in season, and just make the student athletes concentrate on Fall Sports. From what I have read and heard from other coaches, most of these student athletes have been doing travel sports where they are being exposed to a vast majority of the population. This increases the risk of catching Covid-19.

  14. Where did you study medicine? How old is this virus? I caught a virus in S. America, they think, or from immigrant students...maybe?...the infectious disease specialist isn't sure. It knocked me to my knees while teaching. I almost had to go to half days. It took weeks to figure it out. It's in me. It will come and go as it pleases. If my immune system becomes weak, it could rage. It could remain dormant for the rest of my life. Unfortunately, nobody knows. The best doctors money can buy don't know. Nobody knows what this new virus does yet.

  15. I'm not exactly sure what this is supposed to mean. I asked a legitimate question about the situation many families find themselves having to deal with in the face of a potential start of the school year with virtual education. The situation for many families I spoke of is vastly different now than it was in the spring. Nearly all employment other than essential workers was put on hold for weeks at a time last spring, I'm specifically speaking to a number of factories in the area. Those same employers are no longer shut down now. I also would, unfortunately, defer to the below... Well said Coach. Even if a football season is delayed or, unfortunately, not in the cards, being physically in school removes these kids from those situations for at least 8 hours out of the day. It is sad, but the reality.

  16. No I am just acknowledging that it exists........and we will have to deal with it.......not going to say it will magically disappear or be behind us by memorial day

  18. I am the former "rebel03".....still come in and around these parts 3-4 times a week. I graduated in '04 and played on the '02 and '03 championship teams. I was involved in the heyday of the "Horde"! Man, those were great days...... Couple thoughts On the name change- I am not "happy" about it, but we also live in a completely world. It was not uncommon in the 90s for people to have the confederate flag at school flying from their cars. That was nipped in the butt in the 90s, and was outlawed. Admin said if that were to happen anymore, the student would be expelled, no questions asked. I believe one student fell to this punishment, and this was no longer a problem. As you have read, the term came from a famous pope who rebelled against church leaders for the greater good. But, again, we are in different times now. I have requested to be a part of the alumni side to be on the committee to find a new nickname. You have to take the good out of the bad and move on. Current state of the program- My brother played quarterback in the early 90s for the Rebels and made the leap to go coach with Coach Rodenburg. TW is back in the saddle doing some part time coaching with the offensive line. Brian Lauck is back, one of the best Rebel alums turned coach in the history of the school. Numerous other alumni have come out of the woodwork to follow Rodenburg, including Jason Werner as well as others. Rodenburg literally did not bring one person with him to be an assistant. His background in Cincy Catholic football knew that someone that is a great leader will get the pack to follow him, and it is clear that the pack came to help him out. This is the first time I have been excited to watch them play in a long time. The iron fist is back, and ready to get into gear. The kids are buying in, and have a solid nucleus back. If anyone can do this, it will be Coach Rodenburg and the alumni there to help him out. It is an exciting time, and I am happy for the program as a whole. There is a long way to go to get back to where they were, and maybe they never will, but I have hope that the right people are at least in place to get them where they need to go. My son is a 4th grader at Saint Barnabas, I want him to grow up on Friday nights before high school watching what I was able to watch in the 90s. It is a great thing when done right!

  19. Since this it appears this sickening act of political correctness will come to pass I suggest the following new nickname: Roncalli Hurricanes (some old time GID members may still get the reference. Occurred during the height of the p/p vs. public 'debate' here on the GID.)

  23. There are twice as many deaths in America from pneumonia than from Covid under the age of 25 (CDC). These school lockdowns are a complete farce. As soon as the election happens, and especially if Biden wins, we won’t hear about this virus again. How many days will the COVID tracker on CNN last after a Biden win? I say a couple days. In the meantime, our kids are going to turn into criminals, druggies, or worse from idle hands. I can speak for the privates and say there is virtually no chance we don’t return. Most of the Catholics schools would close permanently if we go to E-Learning again. In Cathedral’s case, we’ll be in classrooms in mid-August.
