  1. Wow. Weird stuff with this. I guess the IHSAA literally meant they were freezing enrollments. Only teams moving were success factor teams. I really thought they’d be moving teams up to fill the gap in 6A

  2. Agree 100%. That’s why I was so surprised when this stuff surfaced at this time. But his “leaked” remarks about his disappointment in the organization were made on the 1 yr. anniversary of the drafting of Jordan Love. Hard to believe that could be just coincidence.

  3. I am just damned happy that we have LEGITIMATE Football to discuss, rather than the pontificating about "coaching moves, Conference re-alignments (dreams)...etc"

  4. It's more merciful to Jeffersonville to put them in 5A.

  5. Three team sectionals? What a joke. Nothing like getting a bye to the sectional championship.

  7. At what point does the number of students become redundant in terms of fielding a competitive football team in your opinion? 1000, 2000, 2500, 3000? Once you cross a certain threshold of students, I believe the enrollment figure becomes irrelevant. Carmel isn't better than Noblesville because they have 5400 students and Noblesville only has 3100 students. Hell Columbus East is better than Noblesville and they only have 1500 students. At that point it has everything to do, how you said, with utilizing your resources. Does Noblesville have a good feeder program? Does Noblesville have an A+ coaching staff? Is the school corporation committed to winning? Is there a big community support/follow? It's the latter sentiments that form the DNA of a successful football program. Once you hit X amount of students it really doesn't matter.

  9. He's got to go to Denver and battle Patrick Mahomes 3 times every year.... ...all-time NFL TV ratings for the 'State Farm showdowns' 👍

  10. Don’t forget...ZERO percent F/R/L. Someone with Cathedral ties speaking about the lack of impact socioeconomics has on an athletic program is akin to LeBron James lecturing folks about racial inequality and human rights...oh wait.

  11. I thought he already explained it. On the surface, Cathedral (1200 students), appears to be this small school that rumbles with the best of the best...........the 6A giants. But they have no boundaries. They have a metropolis of 2 million people to recruit from. So it's easy for someone to from Cathedral to say enrollment doesn't play a VERY large role in the success of a program. That being said, I have no beef with the Irish of Cathedral. Catholic kids just play at a different level for some reason. But the fact that they have no district barriers is why no one wants to hear the opinion of a Catholic regarding strength of enrollment.

  12. What stands out more to me than the 3 team sectionals in 6A is there is one 6 team sectional in 5A and several with just 4 teams. 37 teams in 5A is just odd.

  13. I would agree that if he felt that way then yes, he is a snowflake. But man, his performance on the field sure did not show that, in my mind. Buuuuut, part of me says he knew all along this was it for him in Green Bay. In fact, that ois beginning to sound more likely the case.

  14. Perception becomes reality. Rodgers believes he was humiliated ... even if that’s unreasonable, and no one else feels that way. Just another demonstration of his “snowflakeness.”

  15. It is rare that I agree with Cowherd, and the ONLY thing I agree with is that Aaron won't be back. First, the Packers did NOT "humiliate" him. If that is the case, that's on Aaron. Heir apparents, including him, are drafted regularly. What is rare is Aaron's reaction to it. While Favre openly said at the time it was not his job to work with Rodgers, he did stay. He HAS to know his career is close to being over. So what if Gutekunst did not communicate with you; get over it. It's a business at the end of the day. Just like, you have 3 years remaining on your contract A A Ron. Maybe the team did not give you enough weapons along the way, which is arguable, because they gave you that big ass contract. I also disagree with Cowherd when he says it was never a good fit. What a load of crap. What was NOT a good fit for many years was McCarthy being there for so much of Aaron's career. Regardless of what Colin says, personality type has NEVER mattered in Green Bay. Just show up when you are supposed to and play hard. The funny thing in all of this is that Aaron had his worst season in years as a Packer two seasons ago; so I am sure there was a sense of urgency to get a QB. Sure the got to the NFC Championship, but we knew going in just how much better Frisco was, and that it would take a miracle to win.

  16. It's why there should be only 4 Sectionals in 6A.

  17. I politely disagree. You want the easiest path possible in every scenario. One less game is ideal. If you’re good enough, that two week break won’t matter.

  19. In the end, when you strip away the Jeopardy hosting, the swimsuit models, race car drivers and actresses, and the State Farm commercials, Aa-Ron is, and will always be, an a$$hat.

  20. Quick thoughts: Two THREE team sectionals in 6A. Whaaat?? Chatard moved into Roncalli's sectional. Shocked! I tell you. Shocked! WeBo taking Chatard's spot in sectional 28. And don't look now - but the IHSAA notes teams that have been "relegated down" due to success factor. Are we that far from an English Premier league relegation/promotion? (Not a serious question. But I've never seen the relegation word before.)

  21. Concur on this, WE AGREE FINALLY on something !! However, I DO NOT feel bad for Rodgers. Packers did same thing when they drafted him when they had Farve..... he dropped in the green room and he sulked and sulked then his name was called. I don't recall Brett Farve immediately wigging out and demanding out of there. He sat for 3 years then 2008, keys to the Castle were his when Favre went to NYJ Instead of being a good steward to Love, he has done it the completely opposite way.

  22. A dude from Cathedral downplaying enrollment and SES is the ultimate "out of sight, out of mind" type of nonsense. SES and enrollment are the top two factors in a coaching staff's ABILITY to build the culture you speak of. (By the way, the answer to your statement about Carmel is Morgan Newton who went to Kentucky...now do Noblesville.)

  23. What advantage is it to North Central, Fishers, HSE, Pike, Lake Central, Noblesville i.e six of the ten largest high schools in the state? Fishers, HSE, and Noblesville are the three largest schools in the HCC and arguably the three worst football schools in the conference. I want to know where this higher enrollment advantage comes into play? Or is it the socioeconomic factor? You tell me.

  24. Football is a very complex endeavor. There are so many moving parts, so many factors that determine the degree of success a program has. Naturally, we’d like it to be something simple and objective, like enrollment or % of reduced fee lunches. But it is never that simple. Many, many of the factors are both subjective and incapable of being quantified. That’s why it is so difficult to predict outcomes — or identify which factors a successful team exploited to greatest advantage. If there was a simple recipe, everyone would be using it.

  25. I'm talking about pure northern teams. I don't consider Westfield to be north in the slightest. They are an Indy team thrown in the northern bracket. I feel like Jeff is right on the line. Sometimes I credit them for being north, sometimes I don't. It depends on the day I guess. Regarding Warsaw. Good coaches typically improve there programs every year it seems for their first 5 or 6 seasons, then there is a trail off. That's all I was basing my prediction on. I will defer to you on that one, you know way more about their program than I do.

  26. Also, Washington Township is the middle township on the North Side of Indy, hence North + Central. When North Central opened in the 50's many students came from outside the city limits and started to cut into the enrollments of Broad Ripple and Shortridge.

  28. I hate the packers as much as I hate ND and actually feel bad for Rodgers. Why draft a 1st round qb and waste his rookie contract? Every 1st round qb drafted in recent memory has had succession play such Alex smith to Mahomes or has flamed out josh Rosen/Mitchell Trubisky. What is the plan for Jordan love? As a bears fan hopefully he gets traded to the AFC

  31. Great discussion on economics related to football. Tried looking for the longest rivalry...found on Wikipedia (I know I know) Peru VS Logansport started in 1902 and is the "Longest continuous rivalry in the state of Indiana." I know this is not part of the topic of Warsaw's new Fight Song from a previous poster (hilarious I might add, but true), but it does fill in a blank of some sort.

  35. Generally less concerned about numbering rules below HS if both coaches are aware. The same is usually true in frosh/JV as well. In a varsity game this is much more strictly enforced although I've had a couple games where we ignored it. One involved city schools and they didn't know which players would show until they got on the bus. Both teams had the same issue so they were fine with it. We had #75 throwing passes to #64. It was very strange. We also had a game that was in running clock mode where they wanted to send in #46 to play RG on the last couple drives. We did check with the other coach and he was fine. We could have possibly made him change jerseys, but there was no need to be strict under the circumstances.
