  1. While I don't know the DAC scheduling practices....A lot of schools/conferences play their JV and/or Freshman games on Saturdays. What happens to them? The goal of high school football scheduling isn't to create a great spectator sport (its a nice by product of good football and great community support). I just don't see how this advances the issue you are trying to champion...getting a big region school to LOS. Its a side topic to an interesting conversation about making the DAC football more on par with MIC/HCC/SAC etc. Respectfully....I've been fortunate to coach in a very good conference on some very successful teams....being over our heads is most assuredly not the issue. The issue is what allows our entire program to most successful from week to week, and playing our best football in October and November. I suspect it would be VERY rare to find big school coaching staff who would WANT to play a full afternoon game on a Saturday for a regular season opponent.

  2. I would love to pivot to waiting until Basketball to get restictions to competition days like football coaches assocation was told was going to happen, oh I don't know, maybe its been about 7 years now..... I've lost count

  3. I can confirm that Pike offered the position to a young candidate with ties to the area! I talked to someone who works for the school system today. Unsure if he will accept but it would be exciting to see some young energy infused in the program!

  4. There should be 32 teams in 6A.. The 32 teams with the biggest enrollment. A 3-team sectional isnt a sectional. Its one game for somebody Let Class 1A have the byes/ They need them. There's five eight teams sectionals in 1A

  6. In the DAC's current state? Why would they? Because at 12 members, its not feasibly possible for each school to play each other annually. And with too many dead weight programs currently in the DAC, it eliminates potential scheduling flexibility down the road. A conference consisting of the 12 schools you mentioned doesn't prepare the best 6A teams (in the DAC) for a state title run. The caliber of opponent is severely lacking. I don't know what's so hard to understand about that? A super DAC conference hinders schools like Merrillville, Penn, and Elkhart due to lack of weekly competition.

  7. Yeah I DOUBT it would be Castle, but just wanted to make the point that those 6 schools were all within 90 students last time.

  10. Your entire proposal hinges on Penn and Elkhart becoming new members lol. What incentive does Penn and Elkhart have to join the DAC under your new proposal alignment? The ONLY way the DAC comes out better is IF Penn and Elkhart join. You need to get Penn and Elkhart on board. Your proposal doesn't move the needle for Penn or Ellkhart. If the DAC wants to remain loyal to its 8 existing members, then conference expansion to 12 teams really doesn't make much sense then does it?

  11. If the idea is about being competitive and getting better, pretty much really shouldn't matter whether there's a P or P/P behind the school name.

  12. As a Coach.....hard pass on Saturday double headers during the regular season. Nothing would be worse than playing the late game and then having to turn around and prepare for next weeks opponent.

  13. He didn’t play a down last year. Highly rated recruit with some good offers out of HS, but no real way to say what impact he may have had as he literally never saw the field.

  14. Forget conferences go to districts like Illinois was going to. Seems like it solves a lot of problems from scheduling to playing similar sizes schools.

  15. If he does not come back, I am willing to bet we will hear a LOT, especially from "former" teammates.

  16. Ease of scheduling. In DT's scenario, a program only has to go searching for one game. In your scenario, they would have to find four games.

  19. As with all other conference realignment discussions, a reality check requires that we pay some attention to the effect this proposed realignment would have on the total sports programs at the schools affected. Not saying that would be prohibitive in this case, because I don’t know. From a football perspective, it’s exciting on a local and regional scale. But this move, standing alone, changes nothing in 6A.

  20. It's only fitting that a discussion about visors and caps in girls softball is in a thread about Hammond's new nickname seeing that both are trivial and insignificant.

  23. Great topic by DT. It's been a great read following DT and Footballking16 and their respective opinions. Sorry DT, Footballing16 wins this debate.
