Honest question, is that still a penalty? No mouthguard, no play? If they cut it, would anyone be able to tell a player is not wearing one? I also wonder why players stop utilizing them after a certain level..crazy work..

No, it’s not a penalty. Here’s the actual rule:

“When any required player equipment is missing or worn improperly, an official's time-out shall be declared. If the missing or improperly worn equipment is detected during the down or subsequent dead-ball action related to the down without being directly attributable to a foul by an opponent or if a player is wearing otherwise legal equipment in an illegal manner, the player shall be replaced for at least one down, unless halftime intermission or an overtime intermission occurs. If proper and legal equipment has become improperly worn through use but prompt repair is possible and does not delay the ready-for-play for more than 25 seconds, such repair may be made without replacing the player for at least one down.”

What's next?  Mouthguards left dangling from a facemask or sticking out of the top of a helmet during a play, like in the NFL?

Not in Indiana. Video is everywhere. And if something like that occurred with any frequency, sooner or later it gets around to the powers that be. And then there can be consequences.

Temp's first offseason topic.

By class, which school who has never won a football state championship at any level, would you predict to win its first state championship?

(Based on the class that they are currently in.)

I'll start:

6A:  Avon

5A:  Whiteland

4A:  Yorktown

3A:  Guerin Catholic

2A:  Triton Central

1A:  Milan

There is one in NIL though! jk..as long as it not a safety concern and the coaches are ok with it...eh..

Well the RULES "aren't" ok with that, and we do play by a set of rules.

Big eh so long as there aren’t safety concerns. I suppose it’s possible coaches, generally, like the rules so they don’t have to be the bad guy policing how their players look.

I had Penn twice this year.  ZERO issues with compliance to the uniform directive in either contest.

Sure. Just give us a list of which rules we’re supposed to ignore.

Pass interference

Roughing the passer

Roughing the kicker

Holding

Unsportmanlike

The defenseless player nonsense (unless hes lost his helmet then u can call what you want)

Illegal man down field

And honestly if you could just do away with halftime somehow that'd be great

Thanks bob

All penalties that impact the game..tell me..how does drip stop the other team from gaining 10 yards?

I hear ya. I will say though, by my count, there are only 5 P/P's in the list of 32 teams I have above and they have a combined 0 Postseason Football trophies in their history. If I missed one let me know but I counted... Bowman Academy, Fort Wayne Blackhawk Christian,  Purdue Polytechnic (Broad Ripple)?, Greenwood Christian Academy, and Indianapolis Tindley? The only school I see that COULD fit your scenario would be Indy Lutheran if they were no longer success'd up.

Purdue Poly and Tindley are charter schools and not private schools.

I'd say you could probably throw Faith Christian into that mix.

I honestly was not quite sure how those were counted in this "debate."

Think of charter schools as under-funded public schools. Most of the charter schools in Indy are in the IPS district. The schools themselves often do well, but their athletics struggle. Especially in football where numbers matter.

Not a penalty, unless and until you decide to add some 'drip' to your response towards an official as to your appearance.

Otherwise, you just don't participate until the uniform situation is rectified.  No penalty assessment attached.

No idea where you got the idea its a penalty.

The only uniform policing I care about is are the numbers clearly contrasting from the jersey (and that means purple-on-black or gray-on-white DO NOT COUNT. That's not enough of a contrast) so they can be seen from the stands and press box.

I am sure your all time favorite (because you have called games between them) is the DC White jersey's and Gold Numbers (TV and Radio Play by Play nightmare).

Never said it was a penalty..just asking how "drip" effects the outcome of the game? All about player safety..otherwise..if a coach n AD are ok with a players fashion show while representing the school..then whats the issue? As someone stated b4..certain games its ok..while others its not..the ambiguity may translate to who just decides to be an enforcer any given Friday night..

Those drive me batty. Thankfully, it's always been early in the season when it's sunny until after halftime, so those don't get washed out in the lights as easily.

Temp's second offseason topic...

What is your ultimate "what if" as it relates to Indiana high school football?  Could be a player, a game, etc...

I'll start.

What if guys like James Banks (Ben Davis/Tennessee), Jerimy Finch (Warren/Tennessee), and Steve Holman (Ben Davis/Michigan State) had their stories turn out differently after high school?

Wait, are we already closing the book on Jeremy Finch Jr.?

Jerimy Finch Sr. was the best high school DB I've ever seen. WC could play a 4-4-3 because he covered so much ground, he could play both safety positions simultaneously.
