  1. Remember that time when all those guys were saying we wouldn't make it past week 3......that was cool.

  3. Evansville Central @ Jasper. ((Sect. 24) Jasper is very good and lost to undefeated EC by just a TD on the road. This should be a good one.

  5. Don’t have any brothers Sherlock, but nice try... Also, at Pioneer we don’t wait for the classes 5 to 10 years down the road to start winning games. Get excited about youth league and jr high scores all you want... Those leagues are for teaching fundamentals, not win-loss records. If our freshman come in knowing wing t fundamentals and how to get to the ball on defense I’m a happy camper. We know the conference is going to be more competitive in the coming years. Judson is going to be a problem next year. Hendryx will get Winamac turned around. Laville has a great young qb and a lot of youth getting valueable reps this year. I’ll still take the Panthers 🙂 Im done on this subject for now you know what they say about arguing with idiots....

  6. Honestly don’t remember what I said or when I said it. Why would I quit though? The next few years are going to be a lot of fun as a coach getting to see the next reload of Panthers. We were supposed to be “down” after the seniors in 15 graduated. We were supposed to be “down” after Jack’s class graduated and still were able to run the table in conference. Will we be a different team after this season? Absolutely we will, it would be ignorant to say otherwise. We’ll be losing a senior class that has been a part of 2 state championship teams. However, we always have guys step up and our staff will always have our kids prepared for whoever we’re playing. I personally don’t coach to win conference titles or have “moral victories” like some of our friends in the HNAC. Maybe I’ve been spoiled by our recent success, but for me any goal less than a state title is settling. I coach because I love this team and the tradition we have. We have great kids and a staff that is family. I’m gonna be here for a loooooooonnnnngggg time.

  7. What is the point of that statement? And no, I didn't know (personally) that Southridge has a 2A enrollment. Is Southridge in the 3A tournament? Why, yes they are. Doesn't matter if they have a 1A enrollment. I don't keep track of 320 teams enrollments. But if they are in 3A, why do I need to say they have a 2A enrollment? The bottom line is they are playing in 3A. Dude, what exactly is it that you want???

  11. If Center Grove isn't hoisting the hardware at LOS, it will be a huge upset! They are solid defensively and the old saying is that defense wins championships. Oh, and their offense ain't too bad either!

  14. I hope they don't use the Sagarin ratings in college this year with the Big Ten only playing conference games Ohio St. would be ranked around 150. lol

  15. I have one darkhorse and it is for all 6 classes: Covid 19. How much of an impact will this have on the tournament? We know there have been games and seasons cancelled because of it. And it WILL affect ALL of the classes. Week to week you just never know where it will show up. So in this weird year, I am calling Covid, the darkhorse.

  16. I hope Sagarin shows big adjustments for SIAC and SAC teams after Round 1 as a few teams finally play out of conference.

  17. Chesterton could be a closer game than most expect for Penn, IMO. Elkhart has beaten Columbus East on their turf and also beat Mishawaka. Yes, Penn has played Valpo and Cathedral and they are playing better now than earlier in season. I just think it is Elkhart's year for one reason or another. If both Elkhart and Penn win, Penn will be playing at Elkhart, not sure if that really matters or not? I would throw out the 33-3 score from first meeting between Snider and Homestead. Don't take me wrong on this, Homestead is definitely the better team and should win. But I think if Snider plays like they have the past four games, get a few breaks and Homestead is a bit "off" Snider may have a change.

  18. Here are the additional games that were canceled this week: East Chicago Central at Gary West Greenwood at Whiteland Indianapolis Chatard at Bloomington South Jay County at Benjamin Logan (Ohio) North Newton at Tri-County Parke Heritage at Fountain Central Salem at West Washington South Newton at Frontier South Vermillion at Attica Hopefully we don't have any cancelations in the postseason, but if we do, I'll continue to track these. For the final list of regular season games that were canceled and added, visit the complete list on AlmanacSports.com. Thanks, Dan "Rudy" Engler

  19. Good to see Fairfield getting back to strength. Same for Norwell as well. I hope this can convey hope to Southern Wells to stick with it. They're playing a JV schedule with mostly Freshmen. Have saw some of the JV scores, and they haven't faired very well in contests vs other JV squads in the conference. Fairfield can give that group hope that brighter days are ahead, just have to work hard for them. A big shout out to Eastside Blazers. An OT loss to a much larger school was the only blemish this year. They are building off of last years sectional title. Also another good year for Eastside's sectional opponent Bluffton. The ACAC needs their teams to get back to strength. While it's fun to see SA, Woodlan (not too long ago), and AC have success, it's more fun when they earn it against strong opponents like the late 90s through 2000s Heritage & Southern Wells squads.

  20. The CG Spotlight casts a large brightness....... My stories are meant to shine a light on those programs who may not have such a large light to be shined historically. I think that is my entire point here.

  23. I’m not surprised at all, Westfield has to be considered a top 5 team in the state. I would put them at #3. If they played Cathedral again it would be a lot closer, was tough getting them week 1. I think Westfield will make it to state and absolutely have a chance at CG if they meet there.

  25. Two years ago Fairfield played a varsity schedule with basically no seniors except one (he was a cross country runner), a small handful of juniors, a nice group of sophomores and a handful of freshmen. They gave up 493 points and scored 27. They gave up over 70 points twice and over 60 twice. This current group of seniors that are 8-0 never quit. Coach Thacker has done a remarkable job.

  26. Just read on Twitter when Kyle Neddenriep asked Coach Peebles about the 4th and 1 call said he’s go for it again but maybe a different call Langdon has been running hard, getting yards. “This one’s in me”. punting definitely wasn’t going well. They also do a QB quick kick. I personally feel Coach Peebles has confidence in his offense and wanted to just go for it to end the game. Probably wishes he would have ran the ball with Langdon but who knows. Coach Peebles like Coach Ralph are not afraid to gamble and both love and believe in their kids. They are great coaches as is coach Moore. Terrific game though. Everyone thought it was going to be a lot of points but the defense from both teams took control. I was expecting a close game but not as low of scoring 17-13.

  27. The fact that we beat the virus for the most part. I didn't believe we could get past week 5. great job by administrators, coaches, players and officials to get us to this point!

  28. If Peebles thought there was even a chance of a touchback he probably punts it. But that wasn’t happening. Cathedral was on CG’s 46 on the 4th down play. Would have had to hit it at least 40 yards in the air from where he punted for a touchback to even be a possibility. Punted from the same spot on the field earlier and had a 12 yard net punt. The decision to go for it wasn’t hard at all. Just didn’t execute.

  29. LT 6'5" 330 lbs LG 6'5" 300 lbs C 6'1" 260 lbs RG 6'4" 275 lbs RT 6'6" 280 lbs TE 6'3" 235 lbs TE 6'5" 215 lbs looks like a pretty big O-line to me. The Irish RB may weigh 25 lbs less than Steele, but I doubt anyone that watches that game would say he was any less of a tough RB especially in that 4th qtr. heck he’s the one that was making big runs in that drive. Most coaches with very good offenses would have went for it in 4th and 1 (including Coach Moore). In hindsight probably should have fed the ball to Langdon who was running very strong. Jordan wasn’t having the best game either. That play however has been a go to especially on goal line. I can see why it was called. It was a gamble and didn’t work this time. as far as the last drive. The Irish got CG into 3rd downs. CG’s QB and WR’s made some big plays and they won. Both of these teams are excellent. Both coaching staffs have a great pulse for their team. They have great confidence in both their offense and defense. Better than someone who has never coached or called plays at the HS level. Other than armchair QB what are your Coaching qualifications?

  30. Which even further reinforces the decision to go for it. Win the game here and if not fall back on your defense that had been playing lights out all night. You’re not going to get any Cathedral fan to turn on Peebles decision to go for it. It was the right call.

  31. Hindsight as they say is always undefeated. Disappointed with the loss but would have been more ticked if Cathedral didn’t even attempt to win the game on 4th and inches.

  32. I see DT is trying to rile things up again. I agree that the play call was bad on the last 4th down play. If you're going to run the ball you need to give it to Jake Langdon. I have no problem going for it on 4th down. I was not impressed with the down and yardage displays on the "scoreboards." CG needs to have a down and yardage that is more legible. Outstanding facility otherwise.

  33. That’s assuming he gets off a clean punt that travels 40 yards in the air. Cathedral had a 10 yard net punt earlier in the game from the same part of the field kicking into the same wind. It’s 4th and 1, you’re on the road, get a yard and the game is over. You go for it every time there. Just wasn’t the right play call.

  37. I'd like to see the Bombers start a series with the Linton Miners. I've noticed that the Bombers have a couple of non conference games on their schedule. Why not drop Munster? They aren't a very good program in 5A. In fact they are ranked last in 5A. They could always schedule the game on a Saturday and maybe play at a neutral site like they did last week with North Knox to avoid a long, long drive. I believe the two programs are similar and think it would be an epic series. And it would give the Bombers some southern exposure while giving the Miners some Northern exposure. Your thoughts Coach?
