Ummmm, I think if you’ll look back I said I thought it was a TD, but it is unrealistic to expect the linesman on a 5 man crew to be in the optimal position to make that call. It was not humanly possible. He is not going to be able to beat that kid to the pylon given where the snap took place. You may think the officials can see everything the camera does, but they can’t. Your unwillingness to acknowledge the very real shortcomings of a 5 man crew shows that you really don’t know as much about football as you think you do.

Kiser's a heck of an athlete, but Pioneer's been a staple in 1A football for a while. The thing that has hidden that is that LCC and Pioneer have met so often, typically early in the post-season, and ended each other's seasons when they've both been highly-ranked. Those two teams have ended each other's seasons 12 times in the last two decades and, in four of those years, they didn't even have an opportunity to play because one or the other was in 2A via SF while the other was still in 1A. Over those two decades, those two teams also ended up at LOS ten times. They were ranked #1/#2 at the same time in 1A in four of those seasons ... in essence, the #1/#2 meeting in 1A occurred in a section or regional between the two of them. Pioneer's been ranked in the Top 10 1A final poll in 16 of the last 20 seasons and #1 six times ... and that's with three of those seasons hanging out in 2A. By contrast, LCC's only finished Top 10 1A final poll in 11 of the last 20 seasons and #1 four times ... likewise, with three of those hanging out in 2A. I think Pioneer easily deserves the "more with less" consideration.

We all know errors are going to be made. At this point, I’m more interested in why the correct call was not made, and how we can get it right in the future. And I should point out that the terms “incorrect” and “bad” are not interchangeable when referring to officiating calls. Sometimes, even though everyone is right where he should be, looking at what they’re supposed to be looking at, you still don’t get a good enough look to feel really confident. But you’ve got to make a decision, so you weigh the evidence and go with what is most probably correct. But sometimes it’s not. A “bad” call is one that results from a mechanics error, incorrect application of officiating philosophy, or misinterpretation of a rule. The call on the TD at the linesman’s pylon in the south end zone was, IMO, an incorrect call. But it was not a “bad” call.

Focusing solely on enrollment discrepancies is a little short sighted. Free/reduced and other socioeconomic factors would probably be a better place to start.

Congrats to Lutheran. They made the plays when they had to and we didn't. Too many penalties and turnovers at the wrong time. Much like we had week 2 against Eastside. Proud of our AC Jets and the fight they had. 2 years in a row for Adams County football falling just short.

I don't know if he was the best candidate but I agree that he was doing a job that he was asked the impossible of. Goshen and Plymouth are two communities where soccer has taken over. I hope that we can withstand Junior High Soccer but I don't know. If that happens we may never field some of the football teams we have had in the past. I know that when we played Goshen they played hard and with enthusiasm. I don't know the specifics at school but from an opponents perspective Coach Park seemed to be doing the right things.

I shot myself in the foot a little when I suggested 3 times enrollment instead of 2.5 times enrollment. Only four teams have three times the enrollment of New Pal.............Carmel, Ben Davis, Warren Central, and North Central. In 2018 & 1019, the Dragons wasted Center Grove by a three plus touchdowns. During that time period, the Trojans went 5-7 vs the four largest schools in the state. In 2018, Warren Central beat Center Grove by a wider margin, 12 pts, than anyone not named New Palestine. New Pal beat them 23 pts. In 2019, Warren Central again defeated Center Grove by a larger margin than anyone but New Pal. Warren Central beat them by 7, whereas New Pal beat them by 19. Forget about the seven programs that are 2.5 New Pal's enrollment, it's a no contest during those years. You bring some good stuff to the table Temp, but even you can't debate this one. Case closed. Which just makes Pioneer's case stronger.

It could also mean that the ball crossed the sideline at the 2 while the player was airborne, and that he first returned to the ground out of bounds.

If he didn’t get in(touch the pylon with the ball) then you would take the spot back to where the ball went out of bounds. The other pic from Twitter looks like it was inside the 1

An airborne ball carrier must have the ball inside any part of the pylon when it crosses. A runner must cross inside the pylon, even if the ball is outside the pylon. The pylon is considered out of bounds in the end zone. So if you touch the pylon, you've broken the plane of the goal line.

Columbus East 🙂. Bottom half of 5A in enrollment, I believe actually one of the smallest, fringe 4A enrollment, public, not sure about reduced or free lunch. We were turrrrrrrrrrrrrible this year tho 😂

Couldn’t agree more. Who are the teams who are in the bottom half of their class in terms of enrollment, are public, have a free and reduced lunch percentage over the state average (roughly 50 percent), have a schedule strength in the top half of the state and have a winning record annually? There’s your answer.

Great topic. A good place to start looking at data is IHSAA enrollment numbers and then John Harrell’s website on the “combined yearly records” page. Going back as far as the data goes, which is 1984 here are the results. The smallest schools on the list are Linton, Eastbrook, and Tipton. This data speaks volumes for those programs. To be in the top 20 in winning percentage of all schools in Indiana in the last 38 seasons, is quite a statement. I imagine a lot of people will argue for Mater Dei, Andrean, and Chatard, but there is no way a private parochial belongs in this conversation, ever.

I'm not sure what we're using for measuring more with less, but I'm going to go outside the box and say Indiana School for the Deaf. In addition to traditional issues associated with fielding teams, toss in academics plus hearing-impairments ... classroom-related, field-related, and life-related ... and then throw in that the school has 121 students. Hats off to the families, admin, and kids for making it happen!
