I don’t mind my money going to the IHSAA, but I have problem with my money going to ticket company’s at 30% mark up.

To be somewhat clear on this whole thread, I essentially ACCUSED the IHSAA of Gerrymandering in another thread to put all the P&Ps in the same sectional(s) whenever they possibly can. My point was if they didn’t intentionally do this then the Success Factored teams might actually stay “up”. Certainly the case with Chatard/Roncalli. Having Chatard go North in 4A and Roncalli stay South would arguably be the “non-Gerrymandered” (I am straining the King’s English to a breaking point here) result that would actually result in what most want (likely including Chatard) - Chatard to no longer be in 3A. My opinion has long been that the IHSAA had less of a problem in football with P&P’s overall than it had a specific problem with Chatard in 3A and Cathedral in any class excepting 6A. Certainly the same could also be said of LCC in 1A. Well…they solved their Cathedral “problem”…..at least for the time being….even artificially shortening the “bump-up” timetable to do so. They put LCC on a Sectional island…solving that problem. The Chatard 3A problem only required them to keep Chatard and Roncalli (and probably Chatard/New Pal these days) in separate sectionals. It’s a very easy fix and, frankly, just the opposite of Gerrymandering. But the IHSAA does so love artificially eliminating P&P’s in Sectionals whenever possible that they continually lose sight of the Success Factor “big picture”. So, I would argue that the remaining P&P problem is an actual result of the IHSAA’s historic Gerrymandering.

Wait until you are seeing the ones you coached in 5th grade in the stands with their kids watching the games. I finally officially retired from coaching in2020, but still help herd cats with my youngest son's team. At the Harrison-LCC scrimmage this season, I was looking through the LCC roster and realizing that many of the kids that I coached in 3rd/4th and 5th/6th were on that varsity roster. The thing that really caught my attention though was that four of LCC's coaches played for me when they were 3rd/4th and 5th/6th grade. One of them just had his fourth kid at the start of the season. It goes way too fast.

It's unfortunate that assumptions are made about people who reside in rural areas. Yes, I live in a rural setting. But I'm highly educated and know a fair bit about private education. I will not speak poorly of private schooling, but I do enjoy seeing public schools overcome their disadvantages to beat similar-sized private schools.

Last night was the Football Awards Banquet at Hamilton Heights. The highlight and most amazing award was presented to Coach Chuck Reeves by Coach Kirschner He was presented with a wooden topped table which had a picture of each of the 41 Husky Teams he helped coach at Hamilton Heights since 1981 laminated on the tabletop. It was a wonderful moment and a great tribute to his contribution to Husky football all those years. Quite a few parents, coaches, and even our Principal have been coached by Coach Reeves. Congratulations Coach and thank you for all you have done for the student athletes at Hamilton Heights for all those years!!!

If you know what you're looking for you'll catch me there in between the 2a/4a game and 4a/6a game most likely between the 3a/5a game as well

No predictions but, to an extent, it’s the game I’ve wanted to see for years. My EIAC football heritage/rival vs. the HS where my kids played football. Personally, I’d like nothing better than the game to be played in Lawrenceburg where I, frankly, took years of shellackings. The absolute coolest HS field in SE Indiana.

So Carroll beats the #1 team in the state, HSE, in a game they controlled throughout, yet Center Grove is going to manhandle Carroll? Not following the logic here. CG may very well win this game, as almost every person predicted that HSE would beat Carroll, but give some respect to Carroll. They aren’t scrubs and beat a 6A powerhouse in convincing fashion.

If you're going to continue bringing up the close game with Jeff and the fact that Jeff got clobbered by Cathedral, then it's only fair to bring up the fact that Carroll manhandled Penn whereas Cathedral struggled. Another example would be Center Grove's close call with Franklin Central in the sectionals. Sagarin has Jeff and FC neck and neck, with Jeff three places higher. You're better off just saying Center Grove is better "just because." There are no good examples. Temp is making the most sense in giving CG the benefit of the doubt based on 'been there done that.' What about HSE's last two victories? They beat very good teams in Fisher's and Westfield by 22 and 20 respectively. Brownsburg beat Fishers and Westfield by 13 and 17. Again............"CG is better than Carroll just because," has as much merit as anything that I've heard or read. My prediction: Center Grove. Just because they are Center Grove.

Just stop. No moral victories at this stage but Carroll has noting to lose or prove to anyone at this point. They beat the undefeated HCC (best conference in the state) champions last night and have done something no other Fort Wayne area school has done in the 6A era.

Yes, it was something called the Texxas Jam aka the Texas World Music Festival. Pretty cool shows and well worth the money. Went one year when Ted Nugent, Triumph, and Sammy Hagar were there and, during Hagar's set, Emmett from Triumph and Nugent came back out on stage and played Zep's Rock and Roll. I only attended when the shows were in Houston as they held them in the Astrodome which made all the difference in the world vs. the Dallas shows which tended to be outdoors in the Cotton Bowl in the summer in Texas. I recall ticket prices being much less in the late-70s when I started attending concerts. I think Boston was around $10 on the Don't Look Back Tour in 78/79.

As ticket prices spiral out of control, touring is in many cases the main revenue stream they have. My wife and I were discussing the expense of a stadium show as we were waiting for what seemed like hours trying to get out of the Stones show in Nashville last fall. Side note mad props to Indy on their ability to move people out of large venues. At any rate given the costs that have to be involved, coordinating between multiple agencies and local government, not to mention crew, security, staff, rent, etc. I’m sure the bill to the acts is immense, thus huge ticket prices. And if you’re mega stars, your tickets will command 35K a seat. Hell I paid 400 bucks for my son and I to see Bob Dylan last fall at IU Auditorium…..AND IT WAS WORTH EVERY PENNY! I don’t begrudge Taylor Swift making a gazillion dollars on a tour, where I struggle with this mess is the grift that happens once the tickets are sold. The system is set up to favor a select few who then game the system to make themselves rich without adding any value to the transaction. I want to see that 12 year old kid get a ticket, be exposed to the art, perhaps it sparks something, perhaps it’s just something to bring a smile and shake your ass, either way that’s what live music is about for me. What ultimately happens is that 12 year old is denied access and for me is the real tragedy.

Yes. Each team or head coach makes the choices. Like coach said, if the 1st place team gets 8 selections, they pick their most deserving 8. One of them might be QB. Each subsequent team could also choose their QB.

In all fairness, Temptation has Carroll at #3 in his poll. I just took issue with FK's "but Carroll has a chance to join that discussion with a win next week." I figured they'd be allowed part of that conversation with a win over HSE. Just one man's opinion, but I put very little stock in outcomes of previous games. The playoffs are all about winning one game at a time...just win...anyway a team can, and winning in different ways truly shows a team strength. Bottom line, Carroll is in the state championship game...they must be pretty darn good....darn good. Their win over HSE is flat out impressive. I do put a little more stock in schedule strength. If you compare the 2 teams, CG has the advantage of playing tougher opponents. I hope that matters when "push comes to shove". CG won't be impacted of playing at Lucas....been there 6 of the last 8 years. Does that matter after the kickoff...probably not much. But hope that is a slight advantage for CG. Prediction: Slobberknocker. Let's hope all the kids stay as healthy as possible this week and during the game friday night.

I too think it's a little bizarre that the Jeff game keeps getting brought up. There is no such thing as a team at any level at any sport being at the top of their game every time they play.

HCC 6th place Franklin Central (2-5 in conference) gave Center Grove a heck of a game in the Sectional opener-- lost 14-10 after FC took a 10-7 lead early 4th.

Gotta jump on the bandwagon early, after I heard about how Merriville has the most D1 recruits out of any school in the nation next year I love good football, and Merriville is where it is played

gerrymandered how...that could mean multiple things to me? We have a plan that works about half the years just to avoid a multiplier...yeah it's dumb.

It is a mess, but the P/Ps are mostly winning in their original class, not once they bump up.

A. Your post implies that sectionals have not been gerrymandered in the past. B. The success factor is flawed. Adding a second flaw would not improve the situation.

I echo @Lysander’s comments. I have some thoughts I would like to add, but that is unfair to Lawrenceburg and Coach Knigga, as well as BC and Coach Doyle, who have earned the right for this matchup to occur. That said, this game is the one I am most curious to see. 6A is just a foreign concept to us south of I-64, and I have followed much of the 2A, 4A, and 5A tournament as a fan of SIAC football. Not many of the 3A south ‘big games’ have been streamed, so this Saturday will be the first time I will get to see what 3A has to offer this year.

Unpopular opinion forthcoming (just delete or keep scrolling on if you don't like what you read): The lines between "Public Schools Forever - Catholic Schools Never!!!" are becoming increasingly blurry. I don't think I necessarily cast blame- in order to "keep up with the Jones's" and compete at the State level (in any sport really, not just isolated to football)- more and more PUBLIC schools are "reaching" outside their school districts (ala "transfers/recruits") to plug holes of positions in need or just bolster their line-ups. We all know it/have seen it to be true. Don't shoot the messenger here fellas Still doesn't fix the "effective enrollment" advantage of P/P's- and it's still an uphill climb no doubt, but certain public's have found a loophole in the force.

This is a complete oversimplification of the situation and you know it. Can we at least agree if parents are shelling out hard earned cash to send their children to school, over and above what the government fleeces out of them for their government schools, that those parents are going to have expectations that perhaps their public school counterparts don’t have? I have been around a while I don’t believe ANYONE has ever seriously suggested that P/P kids or coaches “work harder”. I had a coach one time tell me, if you look at the parents you can usually tell what the kid will be. Typically if the parents are successful odds are their kids will have expectations placed upon them, they have a work ethic, all the intangibles you look for as a coach. Obviously there are exceptions to every rule, but as I’ve gone thru life, there’s some merit to what the coach told me. And I’m certainly not saying P/P’s have the market cornered on kids of this type, but their business model kind of lends itself to it. P/P’s typically punch above their weight. Obviously there are many other factors involved.

I was wondering when someone would put a poll out here. I voted for all in with seeding, but I don't want the entire field seeded. Seed the top two. Draw the rest. In my opinion this option provides the best of both worlds. It makes the season meaningful, and it gives the poor teams a shot at a favorable draw in the first round.
