  1. I will say this and goes for both sides Until you're in those moments as an competitor (coach) or participant (player) you don't know how you will respond Football is a very emotional game, especially in this type of game, Danville down 3 touchdowns, comes storming back, BJ makes a wild lateral play, goes to OT, then a stop, but not a stop, and all that. I don't fault Danville rushing the field and getting to the other side to shake hands, don't blame the BJ assistant coaches trying to alert officials, to cast judgments about how you would act, or what you would say IMMEDIATELY after something like this happens ..... cmon man, if you watched all the way to the end of the game, and camera was still rolling, you could see Coach Comer trying to keep it collected then you watch him walk away very emotional (rightfully so) and just literally drops to his knees ....... Coaches and players even in HS are not robots, so much time goes into this profession even at the HS level, to cast statements such as, I am glad he wasn't my coach making those statements about life lessons, etc etc is odd to me. Until you're in those situations then you won't know how you react or what you say in those moments IMMEDIATELY after your heart is ripped out. That was important for me to say

  2. Had you taken the time to read any of the half dozen or so posts I’ve made on this subject, on this and other threads, you’d know that I’m on record as saying this was a mistake by the crew. After seeing the video, my opinion is that the proper foul, if any were to be called, would be unsportsmanlike conduct on Danville, not illegal participation. Since UNS is enforced like a dead ball foul, the play counts and the game is over. Now, so much for my being a “ref apologist,” a “moron,” or “asinine.” Let’s see if you’ve got the sack to do the right thing.

  3. In this case, the color guy for WNDY TV23 was former high school coach Lance Scheib. I would assume after all of those years coaching high school football at Lebanon, Franklin Central, and Noblesville, he just might know a little about the rules.

  5. The QB was Lindauer and I would bet good money the WR who chewed him out was his cousin, Branson Combs, who now plays at Wake Forest. Do you think Catholics aren't supposed to cuss? Why the f do you think we go to f'ing confession?

  9. Paoli (+17) at Brownstown Game I've had my eye on since sectionals were announced. Like the Valley/Providence match last week I've went back and forth alot. I like Brownstown to win but man the spread seems a little high especially for 2 teams who run and control clock as much as they do. I think Brownstown has more fire power in this one and score late to cover. Braves win 42-21. Milan (-21) at West Washington WW has had a rough year. Think it ends tomorrow night. Spread feels about right but I feel we let things snowball sometimes. They've dialed back the offense in recent weeks and mixed some things up but I think Milan is too much for em. Ill take Milan 44-12. North Daviess (-3) at Perry Central Teams feel about even. Each has gotten beat down buy every good team they have played. Im taking Perry for the long bus ride ND has to make. Gimmie Perry in close one 20-16 Martinsville (-31) at Silver Creek Last week i knew nothing of Connerville and picked them. Same thing this week. Maybe 31 is too high but Martinsville looks good on paper. Dragons go home 49-14 Madison (+1) at Scottsburg Teams met in week 1 with Madison winning by 6 in Madison. I've heard alot of good things about the Cubs new coach and they seem to be playing much better then in recent years. Ill say Scottsburg is ready. They get revenge and sent the Cubs into Hibernation 21-13 Indian Creek (+1) at North Harrsion You know what I know about Indian Creek? Nothing. They are 5-5. Couldn't even tell you what the unis look like. Probably wrong. All I know is if North Harrison wins they get a home sectional final and it's close enough for me to go to. So....won't happen. IC win 21-20 Salem (+7) at Tell City Again as I've said for weeks I feel Salem is better then record shows. They got some playmakers. Tell City may win but it'll be close. Ill take Lions 31-28 Bonus Game of the Week: South Vermillion (+3) at Linton Linton cheats at home. They get to play with 14 guys on defense! Didn't want that out there before you guys made picks. They win 21-16 (Truthfully i dont know much other then i don't bet against the Miners) You scrubs get your donations in so I can continuing winning Pickems for years to come. You need my insight and you know it!!

  10. And I believe they have done so internally...... I bet it was some real uncomfortable conversations with #29 and his peers

  11. And it's not called offsides in high school. It's encroachment. Several fouls that are considered live ball fouls in NCAA or NFL prevent the ball from being snapped or free kicked in HS.

  13. I may well need to make the trip to the Jungle should the MHS vs HH matchup materialize as expected but I will gladly take the night off this week and watch both games online. Good luck to all local teams this week.

  16. So many stories like this …. Once we were told we had to dress in the room where the marching band stored some instruments. Some band members came in unannounced about an hour and 15 minutes before game time. I’m pretty sure most of them made it through psychotherapy and are now leading useful lives.

  17. Unfortunately, I do 😞. We were in a location that you could not take a shower without being shocked nor be clean even after taking a shower. It is sad that the officials are not all that well taken care of. But that $85 and love of the game still keeps us coming back for more 🙂

  18. Lance does a really good job as an analyst and tries hard to understand the rules. But unless you study and review the rules like an official does, you will never know them as well as you could. He stated on the broadcast the clock starts again when the ball is spotted after a runner goes out of bounds. That is nowhere in the HS rule book, but it is in the NCAA rule book outside of the last 2 minutes of the half. And the play mentioned above was in the last 2 minutes so the clock wouldn't have started in NCAA either in that situation.

  19. You'll often see officiating documentation say it's not a loss of down, but a loss of the right to repeat the down. But Bobref is correct. If you have achieved the line to gain even after the penalty has been enforced, it will still be first down. Similar to if a team does this during a punt return. You wouldn't start the series 2nd and 10.

  20. I may be a moron, but I’ve never been called out by a coach on here for spouting a bunch of BS. Then have to write an apology post for my new daddy.

  23. Nice work there Matlock! Someone named WarriorFan would be posting how they were ripped off by fat old white guys who are so lame they choose to officiate hs football. I wish the police could get you on some more unsolved mysteries!

  24. They definitely do have a lot more of them for sure. Just from the film I've seen on the Cougars, I'm not super impressed with any of their guys named Jim or Joe.

  25. Of course you don't - you're a ref apologist and probably would have made the exact same asinine decision that the moron doing this game did. But let me help - Danville had a game stolen from them because of PLAYERS being on the field "during a play" which was after a whistle blew and Brebeuf kids took their helmets off. This head coach is on the field during that SAME EXACT PLAY. I guess only one side gets called for "illegal participation" Save your bs - everyone knows the parochial schools get favoritism and always have

  27. Most of the predictions I've seen in here seem really reasonable to me. Something like 17-14 either way seems probable. Seems like a first to 28 wins type of game.

  29. I'll be honest I think on the field in the heat of the game he handled himself extremely well. The emotions were definitely high and from what I have seen was handled as professionally as could be. I just was a little stunned with some of teh comments here and there and some I did not agree with. I already know what to expect from you @Coach Nowlin just a little under Eastbound and Down excitement. In all seriousness Coach Comer had a night that most HC's will never encounter. It totally stinks but he will rebound from it

  30. Thats what you think that is? We get it. You're a hater. I.O. is just a moron. Obviously as an underdog I wanted a good home environment to help even things up.

  31. Agreed. Definite limitations. The NIC has been bad and getting worse for football for 30 years. It's about as bad for football as it has ever been now that we're back to running the league like it's 1990 and playing a full round robin.

  33. Sectional 21 is (again) the HHC Tournament, while Delta is alive in Class 3A Class 4A Sectional 21 Greenfield-Central (8-2) at Pendleton Heights (5-5): This was a close game when they met in Week 4 - G-C won a 28-14 decision, but it involved a goal-line stand. PH has had some good wins (47-20 over Yorktown) and some head-scratching losses in that time, while G-C's only blemishes have been against New Palestine and Yorktown. When the Arabians are good, they're *really* good, led by HHC passing leader Colton Frank. G-C gained 325 yards on the ground and nearly 500 total yards in their regular season meeting. New Palestine (9-0) at Yorktown (7-3): The Dragons were tested a bit last week against Mt. Vernon, which hit two long pass plays and slowed the game down to keep contact. The Tigers have been playing good football of late - they've won four of their last five, including a 28-27 win over Mt. Vernon in Week 9. Sam Tokar threw the ball well against the Dragons in their Week 3 meeting, but NP's running game was too much. Josh Ranes ran for 177 yards on 10 carries in that game. If NP can control the trenches, it will be successful. If Yorktown can get its passing game going, it will find success. Class 3A Sectional 28 Delta (5-5) at Mississinewa (10-0): Delta's 54-14 win over 8-1 Heritage last week opened a lot of eyes, but not around the HHC. The Eagles have been competitive all season, despite being the smallest school in the conference, but it hasn't translated to wins. They have a veteran team with Bronson Edwards, Zane Cline and Nolan Carpenter at the helm on offense, and a very solid defense. Ole Miss will be a challenge, but Delta could put a scare into the Indians.

  35. Sure, high schoolers can find a way to lose any game, but I'll be surprised if Snider doesn't win by two scores. I know you Fort Wayne guys don't like Sagarin, but after seeing the human polls I thought I'd cross reference with the computer. There is a clear line where you can say "one or two of these schedules are not like the others." 16 Snider – schedule 34 17 Noblesville – schedule 13 18 Lawrence Central – schedule 11 ____________________________THIS IS THE LINE BTW______________________________ 19 Elkhart – schedule 103 20 Penn – schedule 88 ________________AND ACTUALLY THERE IS ANOTHER LINE HERE________________ 21 Carmel – schedule 15 22 Zionsville – schedule 4 23 Homestead – schedule 31 The only other teams that have worse schedules in 6A than than Elkhart and Penn are Jeffersonville (158) and Tech (252), and Crown Point (57) is the only team in the top 20 with a schedule outside of the top 35.

  36. Elkhart has always head talented players. If I am not mistaken they have 3 D1 commits...which is more than any school in my area....but this team is not world beaters. If they get by Snider, I will buy in. But, until then I am a skeptic of all teams from my area. Also, Elkhart is as high as 6 in the polls. So, they are getting more love than I would give them.

  38. Tbh I don't think many are penciling in Snider from the fort..this isn't a typical Snider team...n it appears Elkhart has the talent to make a run...that transfer rb gave them fits last year...Carroll n Elkhart would be a better matchup imo..

  39. Just my opinion, but I believe (after watching the video numerous times) the correct call would have been unsportsmanlike conduct on the Danville bench. That penalty would not actually have been enforced, since it is enforced after the result of the play stands, which would have ended the game. The key is that none of the people coming off the bench participated in the play.

  40. Personally, since I generally don’t have any particular love for either the Preppies or Danville (whatever their mascot might be….I, frankly, forget…”Six Gun Shooters”?) I’d personally be down with the IHSAA just cutting out that particular portion of the bracket and letting Roncalli take a week’s rest. I’d consider it a perfect solution. But then, that’s just me.

  42. They're all devout Christians, don't you know. I remember being on the sidelines a few years ago when Danville lost to Memorial, a group of strong catholic athletes. A play where the QB ran out of bounds about a yard shy of the first and one of the receivers came over to him and said "YOU HAVE TO GET THE EFFING FIRST DOWN THERE MICHAEL" LOL it's all horseshit.
