I got one, my dad has tons BUT most are not the totally appropriate and have little to do with coaching football! 🤣 a true legend in Indiana HS coaching more than deserving of his Hall Of Fame status. Was cool to see him resurrect a good football program like Mooresville these last handful of years .3 points

All depends on what a school wants to pay for a coach. I remember when James Blackmon was coaching basketball at Bishop Luers and Marion offered him the head coach job at Marion for a rumored $80,000+ per year to only coach basketball, no teaching… Different sport, but I am sure it applies to football as well2 points

I would say it is very common for High School football coaches to be PE teachers. Most that are PE teachers are in the classroom too and work with speed strength and conditioning. In the case of Coach Moore he use to be both Head Football Coach and Head Track coach. He has been hands on in speed and strength development at CG for years now. I would add he has done a very good job of it too and could retire completely at any moment.2 points

Would it count for anything for the game against HSE? Yes and I know Vanpelt did not play against HSE. Would it make a difference in my thoughts of Carroll vs Carmel, Brownsburg, Westfield, Fishers? No. If you were to ask me I would give Carroll FW higher odds of beating Crown Point than I would Carmel and Westfield. I would put Carroll and Fishers about even if you were to ask me. I would say Vanpelt (Carroll) SR and Sharpe (Brownsburg) JR are both about equal WR's about the same style. Vanpelt has 368 more receiving yards 5 more TD's than Sharpe, that being said Sharpe has had to play against stiffer competition throughout the entirety of the 9 game regular season. Vanpelt has played against a few very good defenses and performed very well. Sharpe has played against just a couple more very good defense and performed well. I feel Brownsburg has the best team in 6A in all 3 phases of the game Offensively, defensively, and in Special Teams. I also feel Westfields defense is better than some give them credit for. They are giving up 12.2 average per game which is really impressive considering their HCC schedule and non-conference game against Carmel. W2 points

I'll start off with a couple of thoughts: IU: Not sure how they won't be #1 in the first poll. This will piss Ohio State fans off. But how does a committee member look at both team's body of work and put the Buckeyes over the Hoosiers? Ohio State state has a good win over Texas by 7 points at home. IU beats Oregon on the road by 10. Ohio State beats Illinois by 18. IU beats Illinois by 53. IU has two victories over conference opponents by 50+ points. That hasn't been done since Clemson did it in 2018ish. Cut and dry: IU should be #1. ND: Lots of whining and crying out of the SEC stating that a two loss ND team shouldn't jump a two loss SEC team. Using transitive property, ND manhandled Arkansas, whereas the Razorback's SEC counterparts are barely beating them in one score games..............including A&M. The Irish are easily one of the top 12 teams in the country.1 point

Mooresville HC Mike Gillin is calling it quits after 47 years and 373 wins (2nd most in state history). Anybody have any good Gillin stories?1 point

PHJ - If this contest happens, I will personally make certain you get to this game. If you feel up to it, call/text me anytime 463 269-6064 and I’ll take it from there - it would be my pleasure. We can cheer for different teams and be gentlemen at the same time - it is possible.1 point

I said if Cathedral was healthy, I called out a possible 31-28 win for them. That started a bunch of people calling me out as if I said something crazy. Cathedral is a very good team, as is New Pal. I said it was possible for Cathedral to win. You’d have thought I was predicting a Frankfort win…1 point

I haven’t seen the Memorial stream pop up yet on the IHSAAtv website. I think it’s being streamed this Friday, since they have done all the games since 2022.1 point

Yes, I think ND is either in at 11 or they squeezed out by the G5 team.1 point

Which is a sucky side effect of the 12 team playoff. Every week used to matter. Margin for error was razor thin.1 point

Bet I can guess who that was. 😄 Somewhere just west of 69??? It at least sounds like it could have been there.1 point

Now that I think about it, if Miami and A&M take that many losses, they’ll just get dropped in behind ND and then ND will almost surely be in, assuming they win out.1 point

When I was in HS, the HC was basically "trolling" the school... No idea what he 'taught'. Some of the Assistant Coaches should have been listed as 'HS Muscle'... it was a different time heading into the early 80's, than it is today.1 point

I would bet Fort Wayne schools have them too. Carmel High School's wellness curriculum is integrated into physical education and other subjects, focusing on both physical and mental health through courses like Health & Wellness Education, Principles of Exercise Science, and Outdoor Exploration Core courses: Health & Wellness Education is a required course, often combined with other physical education credits. Specialized options: Students can choose from a wide range of electives, such as: Outdoor Exploration (including activities like kayaking and paddle boarding) Advanced Physical Conditioning and Weight Training Principles of Exercise Science Team Sports with Sports Leadership Kinesiology with Human Performance The Science of Wellbeing Lifelong skills: The goal is to build skills and confidence for a lifetime of physical fitness and outdoor activity.1 point

I am way out of date on High School Curriculums though.1 point

Good job by the crew. If the field is not cleared in time, that’s a 5 yd. delay penalty on the home team. If the team is late, however, that’s a 15 yd. unsportsmanlike conduct foul.1 point

I would like to see - and will probably write if I can get a principal to accept it and propose it - a bylaw stating Classes 6A and 5A will always have 32 teams (unless there are more than 320 schools entered in the tournament, in which 5A will have the remainder), and that 1A-4A can have no more than 64. Basically, if moves due to the success factor cause 6A or 5A to have more than 32 teams, the smallest schools will bump down to the next-highest class. If they cause 6A or 5A to have less than 32, then the largest schools will bump up. The other classes' numbers should be adjusted, as well. Basically, the way things were before Lebanon got mad New Pal beat them in softball and caused the current bylaw change (in which a team moving up in the SF doesn't bump the lowest enrollment school down). Right now, you can have 3-team sectionals and 5-team sectionals due to success factor moves, and 3-team sectionals make no sense when you're basically giving a team two bye weeks.1 point

They are still that way, like a lot of other schools that don't have locker rooms near the field and have to use the school. As a crew, we always have someone go up to the locker room and radio back when the players have made it in, then we start the halftime clock. We also have an official at the home and visitors locker rooms before the game and near the end of halftime so they know how much time is left to get back to the field.1 point

Ben Davis will be back. If all the players they have in the program stay, and that's a big if these days, the Giants will be back in the conversation. While there are some upperclassmen, the core of this year's team is very young. Gotta love the latent homophobia. You realize that you can be gay and like football, right? You can be gay and play football, right? You can be straight and male and a cheerleader, right? Geez. Maybe not relevant in a state sense, but if some of these teams up in the far northern region of the state had to play the schedules Warren and Ben Davis do, they wouldn't be where they are. ----------------------- As far as who Temp is, he's accurate when he says he doesn't have a rooting interest. He's no WC Warrior, I can tell you that.1 point

I want what you're on. FC 6 wins are against a combined 15-35 opponents Their 4 losses are against a combined 33-7 opponents They seem to struggle when the other team is good, and it just so happens that South Putnam is really good. Give me SP 48-131 point

It is a one off for these schools. Concord has not had a true home game all season long as they are doing construction on a new facility. They have played "home" games at Rice Field (Elkhart) and Steele Stadium (Mishawaka). They wanted to do something special for their seniors since they would not have a home game their senior year and this is the result. It will be a very cool experience for both teams. I remember back in the day when the Northern Lakes Conference used to have a "day in the dome" for one week of the conference season and all matchups were played down there. It would be cool if they could somehow get back to doing that semi-regularly.1 point
