  1. I’m pretty sure Brad Hanner and Brownstown’s red road jerseys are the reason the book at one time said “white”.

  2. Just FYI, it's just Roncalli. I don't believe Cardinal Roncalli was ever an archbishop.

  3. If I was South Putnam I wouldn't even worry about practicing defense this week then 😁

  4. No one seems to want to put the blame on Daniel Jones. It's not the first time he's gotten that look in his eye during a tough stretch. I refer everyone to Gregg Doyel's column in the Indy Star. He pretty much tells it like it was. Also, Coach Steichen gets some credit for his atrocious play calling. Throwing the ball with 5:50 or so to go, and still in the lead, was mind boggling considering you have the best running back in the NFL in your backfield. The Colts didn't even take a minute off the clock in that possession Jones threw the ball into double and triple coverage numerous times in that fourth quarter and overtime. You just can't sugarcoat this loss!

  5. Agreed, Coach. I've seen them play quite a bit too. It took SP overtime to finish off RP, but they seemed to handle Sheridan and Milan fairly easily. That being said, I think they are well prepared for Pioneer's ground attack. Should be a great game. But I think the Eagles will win.

  6. Because the Colts D was constantly on the field. The announcers mentioned in OT, KC offense had run 82 plays...and they added more. The D had to be more than gassed. The D set up the first score for the Colts. Bottom line, had the Colts offense did anything at all in the 4th quarter, ate some clock and took some pressure off their D, they would have won the game. They hung their D brothers out to dry. Questionable play calling and certainly poor execution by the O. To simply look at stats at games end does not tell the story.

  7. I think you mentioned @temptation was biased towards the HCC. I think you are a biased towards the true north, just a little bit. I am biased towards neither and could care less about 6A football, so I will clear this up. Based off of history the HCC is better and will continue to be better for a while still. There will not be a state champion from the true north in the next 5 years, probably not even the next 10 years because none of them will play each other or leave their conference to play an independent schedule against the Indy schools all year. I think you mentioned Westfield is a 4 quarter team. This is correct because they have to play 4 quarters all year. This is not the case for the true north teams and their schedule. This is the reason they can compete for a half and then lose at the end of the game and will continue to lose for the years to come unless something is changed. So while he might be biased, temp is also correct, the HCC and other Indy schools in the north are better and will stay better than the true north. This is settled now. If you can do this 360 more times that would be impressive, but it isn't needed. Sorry for spoiling the off season @Rodney, gonna have to come up with something else to talk about all off season because this is a dead end.

  9. You didn't miss much. The radio announcers likely felt uncomfortable but handled it the best you could. It basically was fan asking are you (insert name). Radio guy yes why. Fan I want to thank you for the motivation you gave to our guys this week they were fired up after your facebook comments. Anything else really tailed off. Radio guys apologized for anything that may have been heard on air. pretty much it. I highly doubt the players needed anymore motivation than a chance to play for their first State Title. Most likely it was more of adults fired up by any said comments and not players but that is just my opinion. 100% agree I think anything that was stated likely had more impact on adults and getting them more fired up than the kids. Generally speaking the players are usually focused on their plays and keys and other teenage HS stuff. The titans showed a lot of heart climbing back into the game after digging a hole. Cadets players showed a lot of heart withstanding the Titans comeback. Both teams did what you love to see leave it all out on the field. The back up QB was thrust into a difficult situation with his first start being Semi-State game he will get better from it.

  10. Chiefs time of possession was 42 minutes or something crazy like that. Asking your defense to be on the field for almost 3 quarters of a football game is nuts. This one is on Shane. 6 offensive plays in the fourth quarter, all pass freakin plays. YOU HAVE THE BEST RUNNINGBACK IN THE LEAGUE! If they stop JT in the 4th and you lose you can at least say well they were the better team today, they stopped what we do best. But instead the only thing that stopped Shane's offense today, was Shane. I'm not an NFL coach, I have no idea what happens behind those doors, but I do know football. I don't care what level it is, don't complicate it. Find a way to get the guys that are really good with the ball in their hands, the ball into their hands. Shane did not do that with his best player today in my opinion.

  11. If week 4 is your line of demarcation then that could potentially be cut two ways. Serious argument of which one people prefer. Roncalli- Points Scored: 436 Points Against: 187 Dwenger- Points Scored: 274 Points Against: 96 Seems like most people think Dwenger’s defensive performance against Roncalli was more about Roncalli then about the Dwenger. Just in case people wondered if you add in weeks 1-3 it would add: Roncalli- Points Scored: 29 Points Against: 55 Dwenger- Points Scored: 77 Points Against: 18

  12. The IHSAA and the coaches whose games that crew has worked have seen fit to put that crew in the state finals … twice, and in the semistate more than double that number of times. There’s a decent chance you’ll see them in Indy next weekend. But you would disqualify them from ever doing what the people in the know have repeatedly said they have earned because of one alleged missed call in one game. You would never hold a player or coach to that standard. You, sir, are part of the problem. I’m going to look at that game film and I’ll tell you whether I think they missed one. But regardless of whether they did or not, your position is absurd.

  13. "364 more days of delusion, excuse making and claims that the true north is “knocking on the door.” Day 364: See Semi-State Scores thread Day 363: Carroll returns their QB, and a good one at that. Give Dinan a good QB and they'll always be in the state title conversation. Day 362: Something tells me that Pete Riordan is just getting started. If his program improves for the third year in a row, they'll give the HCC a run for their money on the way to Lucas. Day 361: Crown Point. Craig Buzea. Nothing more to say. @temptation The North is on solid ground. I can do this 360 more times if you'd like.

  15. No problem. I'm a Protestant, too, but half of my family is Catholic. It's an easy mistake to make. One of my broadcast partners referred to "Bishop Guerin," and given St. Theodore Guerin could not have been a bishop, I quietly let him know off-air 'it's just Guerin Catholic).

  16. Why would "parity" not benefit Central Indiana? You are looking at the situation COMPETELY wrong. Central Indiana is the standard bearer with regard to FB in most of 5A and so far the past decade in 6A. It does nothing for them to 'level up' to Northern IN. It does EVERYTHING for Northern IN to 'level up' to Central Indiana. Northern IN doesn't deserve to get a "participation trophy acceptation" in order to get to level of the HCC or MIC. They need to play stronger competition as well as play those in the HCC and MIC on their 'open weeks'.

  18. I agree- I wasn’t exactly sure what the rule stated (why I started the thread asking for clarification)- but am a little disappointed it hasn’t been further explained/or just admitted- “yup, we blew that one in a BIG WAY in a BIG GAME.” We’re human, it can happen…but feels a bit like a “cover for your own” type of deal in the responses.

  19. On the flip side of that coin it can be determined that Westfield forced the player to fumble the ball. Live TV showing replay wouldn't have mattered. There are no replays to overturn calls in Indiana High School football and the call was fumble recovered by Westfield. It is what it is.

  20. I concur, any team can be bit by the injury bug at any given time. Not saying that it would take for a southern 6a team to be decimated by injuries, just commenting that anything can happen and if the North puts together a gr8 team while the Southern Kings have a "down" year and someone gets past the hounds and rocks.. The top 6 is bound to stub their toe at some point...when..if ever..who knows..

  21. Lets not forgot they beat a very tough and physical Mustangs squad in the sectional also. In that game they saw a offensive scheme that was masterfully crafted by coach King.

  25. YEAH, JJ, should probably wait a bit, I get being excited getting gift wrapped the week 1 game against the team you grew up rooting for, could get you a bit on the exhubriate side of things.....however..... yea.... Let's crawl before you walk young man. Having winning attributes can take you so far, then arm talent and decision making at the highest level against the highest level of coaching and players comes into play, where you cannot just turn and had the ball off 78% of the time

  26. South Putnam has beaten a big physical Riverton Parke team, Sheridan and Milan all running some form of Wing t, Single wing, or flexbone type offenses. They should be prepared for Pioneers offense. That isnt to say pioneer might not be the best at running the offense. Should be a great game but got to go with the Eagles in this one. The Eagles have a combination of speed and size that is not common at the 1a level. I have seen most of thier games on film and even against the likes of North View they didnt look under sized. The scariest part of it is the roster is loaded with Jrs so if they happen to lose I'd look for them to be back at Lucas Oil next year as well.

  27. the ball "slipped" through a receiver's hands, into a DB's hands"? The ball is wet for one and not the other? Carroll gives up a fumble. Games boil down to execution....who makes less mistakes, who executes the game plan. You make it sound like Carroll gave up the game....perhaps. Perhaps they simple were outexecuted. Time to acknowledge the victor...shake hands and hope for another day.

  28. You mean to tell me that playing portage doesn't prepare you for a big game
    1 point
  29. Ya see, and this is why I have trouble taking you seriously. You give Westfield credit and then (in the very same breath) blame a "wet ball" and then choose the words "Carroll gives up a fumble." Turnovers are a two-way street, no doubt but this is head scratching.

  30. Have not seen Dwenger play yet, but saw Roncalli in Week 8. Two words come to mind ... sledgehammer and scalpel. They can be quite surgical in execution, but also quite blunt. The thing that impressed me most was the crispness of execution across the board. I suspect the game will come down to how well Dwenger's defense performs as I would certainly give offensive advantage to Roncalli and not just in a single dimension. As someone earlier in the thread alluded to, they have a thunder and lightning running tandem out of the backfield and their QB's no slouch if he carries the ball too. In the passing attack, they complete a bit under 2 of every 3 passes and average 15+ yards per catch.

  34. Chiefs had the ball for over two-thirds of the game and the Colts did give up tons of yards but to hold the KC offense (at Arrowhead) to 23 points and only allowing them to get in the end zone twice was pretty damn solid. Give em what they want between the 20s and buckle down in the red zone. I thought some of the offensive play calling down the stretch was questionable personally.

  35. When I watched Knox struggle with Angola last week I knew this was a blowout. Also, running that type of offense against Luers was never going to work. Had shutout written all over it. Reminded me of the Snider/Decatur Central title game a couple years, after 3 offensive plays, I knew there was no way DC would move the ball on Snider. Had that same feeling watching Knox against Luers. You can’t run a Pop Warner type of offense against real competition…

  38. It was. Westfield had that long bus trip, and for some unknown reason, didn't hire transportation, rather they had their busses take them up there. They pretty much controlled the second half. Jake Gilbert was a heck of a coach, but most Westfield people will tell you that he made a mistake when Westfield had the chance to win the game with a two point conversion late in regulation and went for the tie and OT. Westfield's running back was not to be stopped late in that game. They had the momentum. Should have cashed in there instead of OT. Then last year, the reverse. CP looked slow, nothing like the northern folks here advertised. Westfield dominated from the beginning.

  39. No...it was Peyton vs Ben. That was the game that Pittsburgh pretty much dominated, but Colts hung in....I was sitting on the end of the field when Bettis fumbled near the goalline and football picked up by Colts cornerback Nick Harper (playing with injury due to being stabbed in the knee area by his wife) and he had one man to juke (Ben) and couldn't do it. Should have been an easy scoop and score. Pittsburgh won 21-18 as Vanderjagt badly missed a 47 yd FG attempt w/21 secs left. Still nightmares....The Colts were never in synch during the game...always playing from behind...yet still had a chance if not for those 2 plays. https://www.espn.com/nfl/playoffs05/news/story?id=2293484 Harper, who injured his right knee in the first half of Sunday's game, came within moments of scoring the winning touchdown for the Colts in the fourth quarter. He picked up Jerome Bettis' goal-line fumble with 21 seconds remaining and looked headed for the highly improbable score, but Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger tumbled, reached out a hand and made a saving tackle at the Indy 42.
