  1. I assumed Edgewood High School was in Edgewood, Indiana... Which it's not... My bad...

  2. Other than the "holier than thou" types, I'd think most Hoosiers would not be troubled by the mere fact that they were taking advantage of a trip to the "Big City" to have some fun. I'd be more concerned, if I were a Clark County voter, that two guys had made it to their late 40s without appreciating the dire danger they were exposing themselves to by scarfing down sliders after several hours of drinking....

  3. Yeah I almost scheduled an optometry appointment when I saw this. Can't remember the last team any VL sport was put in such an opportunistic situation...especially when it comes to sectional time. You have my stamp of approval IHSAA. 👍

  4. I know the travel issue is a complaint, but it will be neat to see some new matchups with the new sectionals.

  5. While I agree with your sentiment, I don't think it applies in this case. The sectional lines are clearly hand-drawn, subject to interpretation and manipulation. It's 2019 - the technology exists that would allow you input school locations and minimize travel distances, removing all question and doubt about the process. Then, your statement applies.

  6. This will also help out cutting down on those blowout scores. In the past with the 5 quarters, in some games Linton would have to wait until the fourth quarter to play a lot of their JV. Now with 6 quarters, they can play the entire second half and still play 4 quarters in a JV game. That's going to be a big deal for some of the smaller schools or teams with a limited roster.

  7. Depends a little on who you mean by "we". In the case of judges (and lawyers) they are held to a higher standard under rules of professional/judicial conduct that direct judges to avoid personal conduct that appears improper and would could erode confidence in the integrity of the judiciary. Depending on the facts that ultimately surface about what they were doing that morning, and how the physical altercation that led to the shooting got started, they could face disciplinary actions, with the "we" who holds them to a higher standard being the Indiana Supreme Court's Disciplinary Commission. But, honestly, I suspect the Commission would be reluctant to pour salt in the wounds anytime soon for these guys, who obviously paid a heavy price for their night out on the town. So, as long as there is no evidence that they broke the law in connection with this incident, I suspect that the Commission would likely just issue a private reprimand (with a suggestion to perhaps get alcohol use counseling, if they had been drinking.) If "we" means Americans in general, yes, we should hold elected officials to a high standard of conduct, but we do not do so for the same reason most all of us also don't hold ourselves to the standard of conduct that we should.

  8. Frankly, the judges I know have to listen to so much crap, if I were them I’d be hitting Happy Hour every day.

  9. My question on the rule is this. Can a freshman play 2 quarters on a Monday night JV game then 4 quarters of their freshmen game?

  10. I coach in Michigan now and I really miss the Indiana JV model. Here, our JV's play after the Freshman on Thursday night. The same opponent we are going to play on Friday. Not only does it lock JV football into being for 10th graders who play zero varsity, but it also takes away the emphasis of skill development and getting kids on the field at the JV level. Usually both varsity staffs are in attendance trying to see how the other team might align in the Friday game. Also has really made it tough for smaller schools to field 3 levels. Even if you can have 25 kids out for football as Sophomores, you can see where if the Varsity "takes" 4 of them, and a few get hurt through the course of the year, your quickly left with 15-19 kids to try to play a JV football game. Kids are forced to play out of position. Meanwhile a percentage of juniors spends a lot of that year not playing much at all accept during mop-up time. Its just soooooo stupid. Great Job on this Indiana!!!1

  11. I-69 being completed to Bloomington changes the calculus a lot. SW Indiana is now more accessible to the Bloomington area.

  12. I believe this was a quid pro quo move by the IFCA and IHSAA (I could be wrong, just my optics on the situation). State wanted mercy rule, coaches wanted six quarters. Came to an agreement. Quality work by both sides. 6 quarters will indeed be huge in development of better football players, i.e. more in game reps, etc. Sometimes teams have a few tweeners that could help on Friday nights, but still need work in J.V. This alleviates having to choose or worry about it. Better football is the result, if done correctly.

  14. No kidding--hug it out!!! I've said it before, some teams will have some considerable distances to travel while others won't. I still don't feel any team was singled out. We all must be science nerds and accept this...

  16. It could be implied that Sectional 28 in 3A is already an unofficial “tweak” to the Success Factor.

  17. I think they should have done this before instituting a mandatory mercy rule.

  18. Looks like some teams in Sectional 28 will just have to recruit better.

  19. All of 3A should just be glad they are not in sectional 28. I’d drive 5 hours for tournament game to avoid that thing!’

  20. Yes, they did a good job. I know it's unfortunate for certain teams, though.

  21. https://fox2now.com/2019/04/30/hummingbird-returns-every-year-to-visit-georgia-man-who-nursed-him-back-to-health/?fbclid=IwAR1F0BCigDKjcpvqT7Ht-TfFoeabVn39DP3_0p1F6HJbu2viafOEG0uaIOg GROVETOWN, Ga. – A Georgia man welcomed back an old friend—a hummingbird he helped nurse back to health four years ago. Mike Cardenaz says the hummingbird, nicknamed “Buzz,” migrates south every year and always finds his way back around this time of the year. The former SWAT officer may not look like a guy who loves animals, but he told WRDWthat people call him “Dr. Doolittle” because of his fondness for creatures great and small. The flowers on the porch at his home in Grovetown attract hummingbirds. Four years ago, he found one in need of help. “Several of his feathers in his wings were broken off and he couldn't take flight,” Cardenaz said. Cardenaz provided Buzz with a safe place to heal and nursed him back to health with Pedialyte and sugar. “I had to wait until he molted and regrew new wings. That was eight weeks. And he became a part of the family,” Cardenaz said. Buzz regained his strength and finally took off for the winter. He’s come back to visit for the last four years. Cardenaz was a little concerned—Buzz was a week or two later than normal this time. “I was kind of worried about him and I was on the front porch, sweeping off the front porch and I felt something zoom around my head. I stood on the front porch, put my hand out, and he landed on my hand,” he said. How can he be sure it’s the same hummingbird? It’s pretty simple, according to Cardenaz. “Random hummingbirds don't land in your hand.”

  22. Exactly. Are we not supposed to hold public servants, elected judges nonetheless, to a higher standard of behavior?
