  1. By relying on their own work ethic, intelligence, and personal morality to earn a living, raise a family, weather challenges, etc. Unlike others who choose to primarily rely on the state to provide for them and make decisions. Just easier that way I guess...............

  2. Hey, don’t let me get between you and your twin nemeses on the right. To be clear, I wasn’t including @Howe and @TrojanDad in my definition of “media.” And the topic that had me smh ... again ... was the furious debate over whether the President actually told people to gargle with bleach, shoot up Lysol, begin an intimate relationship with Mr. Clean, or whatever it supposedly was. We need to get back to the real issues: whether Biden is so senile that he’s likely to just aimlessly roam the corridors of the White House, or whether Trump is, indeed, the Antichrist.

  3. There are more personal ways to honor the class of 2020. Up here in St. Joe County...the principals handed out yards signs for each member of the class of 2020. To me that would be more personal than lighting a football field.

  4. This is very speculative.. the idea is flopping for sports that don't have as many fans sitting in the bleachers, and are not "contact" based. The truth is going to eventually come out.. the media has everyone thinking that this virus is a nail in the coffin, its not. The stats are showing it. It just came out that 2 people died in Cali 3 weeks prior to what they thought was first death. They did an autopsy and the were positive. That means they caught this in mid Jan, neither had traveled. So what changed from January to March... media. These antibody test are going to let us understand so much more about this virus..

  6. Dr. McCormick explicitly said in today’s “Information and Updates to Indiana Schools Related to COVID-19” video (type that into YouTube if you want to watch it) that schools are to have no facility access for students until at least June 30th. She goes so far as to specifically say “I want to bring my athletics back, can I open up the weight room? - NO!” This will be hard for many coaches to accept. Especially the ones dumb enough to post pics on Twitter of their players in the school weight room lifting, or out on the field doing a workout.

  7. Right.......and as every coach has a responsibility....know your kids. We have a lot who are simply stuck at home, and sadly, not even safe there. Our kids are excited to have these zoom meetings. It will only be our second one to do.

  8. I believe that tweet was very much TIC as you know Rodgers and his "family" issues are well documented.... hence, he is going to treat him like "family"

  9. Or maybe after 6 weeks of being stuck at home, it could be a welcomed distraction......within reason of course.

  11. https://www.indystar.com/story/news/education/2020/04/28/indiana-coronavirus-holcomb-schools-fall-semester-education/3038614001/?utm_source=dlvr.it&utm_medium=twitter This is continued talk about the way school will look to start next year. Districts are being asked to prepare for digital learning to continue with the start of the school year and the possibility of starting later. Obviously, this will impact sports. It will be very interesting to see how the IHSAA will handle that. Will there be delays? Cancellations? We hope not. And we won't know for at least a few weeks. I do appreciate that the state is not trying to move too quickly on a decision for next year with this, but I still think May is a bit early to decide on that, given the seemingly fluid nature of this situation.

  13. Here's the issue though some people have been social distancing, but I can tell that alot people are not. Look at Menards, Meijer. Most "essential" workers, down to the person working at Taco Bell have not social distanced other than not going out to eat. If these antibody test really do start to show 90 percent asymptomatic (opinion- which I believe they will) what is the end game. I personally say everyone where a mask and go back to school/work take hygiene precautions and isolate the vulnerable (nursing homes, at risk elderly) There would be no way to not spread it, unless we shut EVERYTHING down. Even with reduced class size we would still be spreading. Especially since you can't tell who is infected. A LARGE majority of the hospitalizations are people over 80 that are in bad shape. I'm not saying that there isn't others, and yes we all know or have heard of a perfectly healthy young person passing, but reality is that is far and few in between. The death statistics show it for Indiana population 6,800,000 Age. Deaths 0-19: zero deaths 20-29: 1 death 30-39: 5 deaths 40-49: 18 deaths 50-59: 49 deaths 60-69: 157 deaths 70-79: 231 deaths 80+: 354 deaths. Not to mention that now we are finding out its been here since January. People were just getting sent home with an inhaler being told it was an upper respiratory infection. So much will be figured out in the coming month. I personally had a serum test yesterday for the states study, so we will see. I'm really not trying to sound morbid or am I saying this isn't a big deal, but its just my opinion. Take precautions and ease back into things. The toll this will take on our economic standing in theis world is going to be unrebuildable, it will cause more deaths. Food chains are going to be broken. When you cant go to the store and get food what are we going to do?

  14. COVID-19 Is Teaching Us Decentralization Is Needed More Now Than Ever https://mises.org/wire/covid-19-teaching-us-decentralization-needed-more-now-ever We are indeed living in the strangest of times when LA Times columnists are expressing sentiments that better belong in a passage of Human Action. The jury is still out on whether this is merely oppositional posturing from the Left, but any kind of conversation entailing the restoration of federalism is a welcome surprise. The “authorized” right can generally be counted on to disappoint its constituents who genuinely believe in small government principles. To their credit, there have been some bright spots on their side in the present pandemic. States like Texas have gone out of their way to declare gun stores essential businesses and to deregulate several parts of its economy at a time where bureaucracy is impeding various vital economic functions. Elected officials like State Representative Matt Gurtler in Georgia have raised the stakes by floating a proposal that would allow law-abiding Georgians to concealed carry anywhere. South Dakota governor Kristi Noem projected a stark contrast in her relatively lax approach to handling the pandemic. Jeff Deist used her example as the basis for several pragmatic measures that state governments can take to reopen their economies without throwing civil liberties into the wood chipper. No doubt there is much work to be done, but we can find glimmering signs of promise every now and then. We need to move beyond the stale platitudes of trying to fix politics in DC. The chattering class’s lamentation about the divisiveness of politics is frankly silly. In some ways, polarization is our friend. The all-too-familiar ratchet effect has been largely put on hold thanks to the fact there’s no way to fast track certain power grabs such as gun control, thanks to the political division present in the current Congress. This is one case where partisanship can be used against itself in a way that keeps everyday people safe from DC’s antiliberty ruses. Gridlock is usually the next best option when no form of government reduction can be attained. Nevertheless, partisanship does have its limits in DC, as evidenced by the ease with which the monstrosity of a stimulus bill was able to reach Trump’s desk. Hence why decentralization is the x factor that Americans must tap into to break out of its managerial trance. If Californians want to give up their rights during a quarantine, they can go ahead and knock themselves out. Other states will shine as beacons of reason as they turn to more practical alternatives that balance public health and basic freedoms. Thanks to decentralization (and the Tenth Amendment), America has multiple laboratories of policy experimentation across the nation. Competing jurisdictions allow us to see what works and what doesn’t. Not all states will have the same policies. Others will enjoy certain liberties, while others will have fewer freedoms. That’s how the cookie will have to crumble. We must understand that the biggest threat we face in America isn’t the disparity in gun laws or tax policy between states like Texas and California, but rather the massive managerial state that has consolidated in Washington, DC, which engages in large-scale behavioral modification and usurpation of local governance. Extricating ourselves from this parasitic entity will be the greatest challenge of the twenty-first century, but it’s a battle worth taking. Agreed.

  15. What was the margin for error in Wisconsin, Michigan, Pennsylvania, Florida and Arizona? Thats what happens when you have 2 terrible candidates. Clinton doesn't beat obama, or kerry or bill in a primary. She doesn't beat bush 41, or 43 in an election. Trump doesn't beat Romney, McCain, Bush 43, Dole or Bush 41 in a primary and he doesn't stand a chance against President Obama, Al Gore or Bill Clinton in an election... They were pretty spot on when it came to the house and senate in 2018 weren't they? They were pretty spot on in 12,08 and 04. Whats really sad is, you think he won by a landslide Thats what happens when you dont expect Michigan to have 131,443 less votes then they did in 2012 or when Wisconsin voter turn out down by 241,131 or Iowa down by 98,509. Trump is in a tough fight in 2020. Biden is more popular then Clinton has less baggage then her and Trump is an actual politician now where you can attack his major failures, lies about certain stuff he said he would do or what he wouldn't do+ all the personal issues.

  17. I met Doc many years ago when he accepted a position as a representative from Southern Indiana on the Board of Directors of the Indiana Football Officials Association. A friend over the years, we had a number of conversations about the mechanics and philosophy of the referee position. But our conversations ranged well beyond football. A great guy who made a significant contribution to high school football, who will be greatly missed. The story of him coming back to work a state final after basically dying of a heart attack is inspiring.

  18. No. Not unless that situation is involving a prominent member in the IFCA community. We lower the flag to half mast only for the most important (and that term is not the right one) dignitaries in our country. We have holidays only for the most important people in history. And, in my opinion, leaving the lights on should be reserved for a very select few situations/individuals.

  21. The first two times I put "we" it was referring to the high school teams around the state. The last "we" represents the people of the United States. I can see the lawyer coming out in you here. I hope I'm right and that your wrong on this one. Time will tell. There is still a lot of time between now and football season. The NFL draft is about to start and I don't want to get into a guessing game contest over the pandemic. Take care.

  23. I mean “Big George” was only a Freshman All American, 2nd team All Big Ten, and led the country in TFL’s by a freshman. Don’t see the need to harp on George for playing 3A football and being the best player on an undefeated state champion team. The MIC argument is completely irrelevant since George has already played a season of Big Ten football and has shown what he can do. Im sure Curry and any D1 bound DE hopes they can have as good of a freshman year as George did. We all know the MIC is the best football conference in Indiana doesn’t change the fact George had a stellar freshmen year. Maybe Curry will end up being better, but don’t try and downplay George because he played in 3A when he was one of the best defensive players on a Big Ten team as an 18 year old.

  25. It could be done with some planning. Facilities have improved enough to make it possible (turf fields with sufficient seating in both the home and visitor sides). This would have been relatively easy to assign during the 2019 season. This is assuming that the host schools would be willing to do this, but it could have looked something like this: @ Warsaw Valparaiso vs Dwenger East Noble vs Hobart @ Lafayette Jeff Carmel vs Merrillville Eastbrook vs Andrean @ Kokomo Chatard vs Mishawaka Marian Lafayette Central Catholic vs Adams Central @ Warren Central (or Arsenal Tech) Ben Davis vs Center Grove Western Boone vs Triton Central @ Martinsville Evansville Memorial vs Mount Vernon Heritage Hills vs Danville @ Columbus North New Pal vs Bloomington South Indianapolis Lutheran vs West Washington

  26. I've noticed that sometimes the GID forum software balks when you post something with a lot of quoted text/pictures and the entire thread is large, like 10+ pages. The result of this can be duplicate posts. No biggie, I'll delete/hide two of them for you.
