  1. A longtime Northwood HS "Super Supporter" (as the Goshen News called him) and fellow NLC fan was "humbled" (in his words to me) after the NW football team visited his home over the weekend after Friday's scrimmage. Larry Weaver (Former Jimtown FB coach in the 70's) is a deep rooted supporter of all things Northwood Athletics. Knowing him professionally and personally since the mid-90's SF can personally attest to that fact. Weave, as his friends call him, was diagnosed with aggressive brain cancer a couple weeks ago. He is truly an inspiration how he has taken the news. I told him "You've never done anything half-assed, and neither is your cancer Buddy". His step-son posted a pic from that visit that I want to share here. He is hoping to be able to make it to the Jimtown/Northwood game this weekend. I know if there is anyway possible - He will be there. His sons are going to do everything they can to get him to the field one last time. I hope he can make it there. Keep him and his family in your prayers. Thank you to Coach Andrews for making this picture happen.

  3. I know there is a growing sentiment among people at Sheridan that the WeBo game is pointless, and needs to go away. I'd love to see the Hamilton Heights matchup come back. Maybe a Lutheran/Covenant/etc? On the other hand, Coach Wright often uses the WeBo game to just try stuff and see if it works. He might be lobbying to keep the game, just as another scrimmage.

  5. Martinsville lost a lot, really a lot of multi-year seniors (especially defense) and big stat qb from a team that was mowed over by EC in consecutive sectional championships. IDK what will see. Franklin lost Clark, Baker and some key players. But they have Pinnick back at qb. That is something to build on. Is this the year that a Bloomington team is a 5A player again. Some oddly, eerily quiet tournament nights in Btown lately driving by those fields. Greenwood. IDK. will see them at IC next week. Whiteland reloads more often than not under Coach Fisher.

  9. Yeah, well you all probably what I believe about the voting for the "lesser of two evils" scenario, which is what the uni-party has presented to this country for at least the last 30 years.

  10. The best is when a fellow fan turns to you and says, "this game should be easy, our record is much better than theirs." That happens every time an Indy team comes to town. Anyway, good writeup. I enjoy reading your MIC and HCC threads.

  11. I get what you're saying, but............... I don't look at these games as lose/lose. If Warren beats Snider, they get to say "we beat Snider." The Panthers finished the Sagarin ratings last year as the state's 15th ranked team and appear to be on a similar path this season. Same with Brownsburg. A win over Dwenger is never going hurt your resume. Warren Central and Brownsburg chose winnable games against formidable opponents (teams that hit back when you hit them). Not sure how that's a lose/lose proposition. I get that a program doesn't want to lose to a smaller class team, but that's the chance you take when scheduling "winnable" games. No different than Snider scheduling East Noble. For Warren and Brownsburg, the "lose" would be getting defeated by a smaller school. The "win" would be defeating programs that have played in 17 state championships between them. I can assure you that folks up here in Fort Wayne are looking at Carmel, Warren Central, Hamilton Southeastern, and Brownsburg and saying "woah, was this such a good idea?" But no matter how you slice it, I think there's some statewide interest in the first ever Indy vs Fort Wayne showdown in the regular season. I think it's an interesting way to start the season.

  13. Yes it is a legit public school part of the Miami-Dade County Public School System. 1600 enrollment with nearly an 80% f/r lunch program which trumps a lot of narratives here. Miam-Dade County Public School System is one one of the biggest school systems in the country.

  14. Tests have shown that straight ahead speed in the 40 does not materially differ whether on short natural grass or artificial turf. However, change of direction speed is significantly faster on an artificial surface.

  17. Week 1 is here! The first week is always a difficult week to judge / guess the winners of the matchups. We don’t really know a lot about anyone at this point. Here are my Week 1 NLC predictions: Calumet at Plymouth: I would love to see Plymouth come out and be competitive; however, I don’t see them winning this game. With Calumet having a new coach, it may help Plymouth, however, not enough to win. Calumet 35 Plymouth 13 Concord at Elkhart: Concord was a weird team last year in that they played Mishawaka and Northridge very well last year and didn’t perform well other weeks. Elkhart beat the teams they were supposed to and lost to whom they were supposed too last year. I think Elkhart is going to be better than last year. With that said, I think Elkhart will win, but Concord will keep it close. Elkhart 42 Concord 35 Jimtown at NorthWood: This game is usually a good matchup that most would prefer to see later in the season. With that said…I don’t think that Jimtown will be able to keep up with NorthWood’s offense. I think this is one of two running clocks in week 1. NorthWood 49 Jimtown 13 Mish. Marian at Mishawaka: I’m not sure what we will get from Mishawaka this year. They lost most of the fellas in the trenches; however, the younger guys may step up. I don’t see Marian being all that great this year. I’ll take Mishawaka at home but not by a lot. Mishawaka 17 Marian 7 Northridge at North Side: Probably the best game of week 1. I think Northridge will be better than they were last year, and North Side is trending upward and played really well last year. This will be a slugfest between the Summit and NLC. I will give the nod to the home team in this contest. North Side 35 Northridge 28 Tippy Valley at Wawasee: I don’t know a lot about Valley, however, they have been pretty good the last couple of years. On the other side, Wawasee has not been good the last couple of years. I hope they boys in Syracuse can turn things around throughout the season and they can be competitive. I feel like Valley will win easily. Tippy Valley 40 Wawasee 10 Warsaw at Michigan City: Warsaw may be the best in the NLC this year, Michigan City may be in the bottom of the Duneland. I don’t think Michigan City will be too competitive in this game and my 2nd running clock game of the year. Warsaw 42 Michigan City 7

  18. Quick answer for each school Attica. The long term result of the anti energy policies from 2008-2016. Heavy industries took a beating and Attica’s largest employer and financial supporter almost folded. Families moved, nobody came in, enrollment dropped. Boys and girls basketball and football have put up multiple winless seasons between them. But they keep fighting. Fountain Centrals. Some say it’s because The Legend left but the real damage was caused at the junior high level by 2 coaches that ran players off. I blame the varsity coaches and AD for not getting more involved. Herb is slowly bringing the numbers back up Seegers. The Legend left.

  19. I agree on start times. We are starting at 6:30 in the SIAC now, which is absolutely stupid. But I would go the other way on transfers. Get the IHSAA out of the decision-making process for transfer eligibility completely - let any kid transfer to whatever school he wants.

  20. Congrats to Northridge seniors McClain Miller and Wyatt Boals for their recent commitments. Miller has committed to North Dakota State while Boals will be playing for Illinois State next year. More to come.
