The SOS strengthens starting this week with Maryland.

Sure does...will be interesting to see how both team's passing attacks are impacted by weather tomorrow.  Maryland's QB is leading the Big Ten in a bunch of categories and has a favorite target.  The run game with Oline play will factor in big time tomorrow...always does, but maybe even more given the expected on and off rain.  Hopefully, the wind will have died down my game start.

Well I guess we all know how much Mr. Cignetti cares about education:  https://www.indystar.com/story/sports/college/indiana/2024/09/27/indiana-football-coach-curt-cignetti-asks-fans-students-pack-the-rock-stay-vs-maryland-iu-hoosiers/75411507007/?tbref=hp

Quote

...

Cignetti sent a message to students' email inboxes asking them to come and stay for the Hoosiers' Saturday kickoff against Maryland, despite what's expected to be wet conditions from what's left of Hurricane Helene.

Here's his note to students:

"It's been 57 years since IU Football started a season 5-0, but we have a chance to do it Saturday with a win over a very good Maryland team. We have every intention of making it happen, and I'm asking for your support. We need you there for the opening kick. We need you there in the stands being loud in the first quarter. And the second quarter. And the third. And, most importantly, in the fourth.

"When the clock hits zero and we're 5-0, I want you there to be able to celebrate a historic win with us.

"The tailgates can wait. The parties can wait. If you need to study, that can wait too.

"There are good things happening with IU Football, and you're a big part of it.

...

Maryland 35, IU 24.

I love what he did...trying to change that culture off the field is a very tough task.  I watched a ton of the Rutgers vs Washington game last night and the Rutgers stands were packed and stayed that way to the endo for to outstanding competitive game.  If Rutgers kids can hang the end on a Friday night, surely IU fans and students can hang on until 3pm.  Shame he has to do this...embarrassing actually.

IU admin is on the hook as well....why they allow people to buy parking passes to tailgate without buying a ticket to the game is beyond me.

Turnovers and penalties kept Maryland in the game. A couple of stops late for IU seals the win. 5-0 for the first time in 57 years.

4 turnovers for IU today....still puts 42 on the board. Not their best football, but still a 2 TD win over a quality for in Maryland.

Arrogant or not, Cignetti's the real deal. His confidence was off-putting to some on day one, but he walks the walk.

Hard to change culture in and out of the locker room with the “gee, I hope we can compete…”. He has a monumental task…but so far, love how they take on the attitude of his coach. So many followed him from JMU and that speaks volumes. Those kids are tough and can flat out ball

I liked him from day one. Doesn't hurt to be confident. It clearly spilled into the program.

I noticed that yesterday when I was looking at the box score. Saw quite a few who had JMU listed in their previous seasons for prior stats.

I was in Bloomington yesterday. Was very surprised by the fan turnout despite awful weather. Like you said, culture is huge. Easy to get young kids to buy into the culture you’re creating when it’s backed up by W’s and they’re having fun.

Took my daughter to Mother Bears after the game for wings and pizza. Right now my money is spent in Bloomington on Saturdays while I ignore the crap show in West Lafayette.

Ok, I am in on the Hoosiers folks. Here is the rest of the schedule:

At Northwestern - 13 point favorite 85% chance to win

Nebraska - 71% chance to win

Washington - 73% chance to win

Michigan - 68% chance to win

At Ohio State - 17% chance to win

Purdue - 94% chance to win

Per ESPN analytics

IU is a sizable favorite in every remaining game except vs. Ohio State. 11-1 would be incredible, but having watched every opponent on the schedule it is very doable

Love the optimism, but a long way to go....they would absolutely have to avoid serious injury to key players....and have some luck roll their way.  I do like they were able to pull out a win over Maryland late after experiencing 4 turnovers.  Watching on BTN, the Indiana D stepped up and did not allow Maryland to score following those turnovers.

However, they cannot do that against some of these teams left on the schedule...so it would take a lot to go 11-1.  I love the thought, but one game at a time.

Locks......... Purdue

Should win....... Northwestern

Toss up......  Nebraska, Washington, Michigan

Major upset........ Ohio State

Not sure what qualifications are now for bowl eligibility, but 2 more wins gives them 7 and I know that will get them a bowl game.

Getting in the 12-team playoff would be stupid in past years.  But now, in the era of free transfers and NIL, yea even IU in the hunt for a national championship is now possible. Lord forgive me for even thinking that.

For sure. 5-0 for IU has been a pipe dream for so long it is easy to get a bit excited. How often have we went into every game but one a favorite? We avoid Penn State, USC, and Oregon, get a down Michigan team, a beatable Nebraska team, a beatable Michigan State team, Northwestern who we should beat by double digits, and lowly Purdue. Table is set, just gotta eat

I noticed one voice has been much more quiet about IU football this year so far......

5-0 with no major wins of substance and a cake schedule.  Happy for the fans but let’s hold off on building the statue just yet.

Never seen this amount of “success” go to a fan base’s head so quickly.

No one has advocated for anything…just noticed you were quiet this season about IU so far….nice change of pace.

Still riding high.  15-0, national champs.

IU can statistically get caught up by 2036.

Interested to know what is bringing this on. The portal has very little regulation to it. Seems that it should not be allowed during the season

He can’t play at another school this season. IU burned McCulley’s redshirt his freshman season after they suffered some QB injuries. He’s played in 4 games this year which means if he plays another snap going forward his collegiate career is over after this season. McCulley is buried on IU’s depth chart so he’s electing to redshirt this year to preserve his eligibility to play elsewhere next season. I believe theoretically he can transfer whenever but he wouldn’t be eligible to play for a new team until next season.

Ok come on Temp, they are almost bowl eligible!!!Even if they lose a couple winnable games, 9-3 is a marked improvement

Hell yes it is.  And I am happy as hell for the IU basketball fans that won’t have to start the midnight madness countdown this month.

The schedule can not be ignored.  It’s all outlined above.

Cignetti is a helluva coach…still talks like a clown.  Both can be true.

When has the schedule been any different? They’ve beaten two teams who won 8 games the year prior by a combined score of 84-41.
