Bingo

Eh, could happen.  I'm content.  I watch football differently after last year.  A national title has bought me a few years of satisfaction.

One team is 4-1 and is in transition after losing 15 guys to the NFL and the other is set to erect a statue for being 5-0 with a high quality win over Maryland.

I'd actually be sort of happy for the Hoosiers if it happened in a weird way.  Before reading this thread, I actually didn't mind most IU fans.  They have suffered long enough.

Lol.

This is just the beginning.

Heard that in 2020.  In fact, I still have my Phil Steele, Lindy and Athlon preview magazines from the fall of 2021 where it was a consensus proclamation that "IU was now the Big Ten's Biggest Threat to Ohio State."

I don't care about 2020, Tom Allen was still the coach.

If IU commits to Cignetti and staff, the next 5-7 years are going to be very fun.

The bigger question is what if Cignetti doesn’t commit to IU?

If he’s as great as all the fan boys on this thread proclaim, he will be poached by a better program with deeper pockets.

I don't see one of the big boys poaching a coach who is set to turn 64 before the start of next season.

But that's my hope.

And you pay to follow this chihuahua around these boards daily giving tiny mosquito bites disguised as insults while claiming I don’t matter to you.

You drive my ratings.

@PHJIrish gets it.

The hilarious part is this all started because I had to audacity to call Cignetti “good” and not “great” based on his resume thus far.

Certainly you aren't comparing power 5 jobs like Stanford and Michigan State to JAMES MADISON with a straight face?

If so, I KNOW you are trolling.

You added James Madison....not I..... SO I asked the same question as stated originally

If Nick Saban stayed at Michigan St does he win National Title?

If Jim Harbaugh stays at Stanford does he in win a national title?

These great coaches had to go to what is known as Blue Blood Football programs to earn that distinction.

It's a message board, where members engage with one another on various topics.    In this case, Member Temptation, made clownish statements, in my opinion, as the opinion of others as well.  This "HOT TAKE" has proven to be thus far FROZEN SOLID TAKE, and this has sparked conversation amongst MEMBERS , which is one of the key components of a MESSAGE BOARD where SPORTS are discussed.    Its pretty simple

So you have just admitted you spew nonsense because you enjoy being self anointed "most important guy here" award

You can't have it both ways.......

And for the record... you are no where NEAR or even in same atmosphere of DT,  you are what we are call a pretender, not a contender.   DT was HONEST in his assessments, conversations, you change to fit narratives you want, you post things for a reaction that you don't believe, that is what your statement above means.    That is disappointing to me, but its cool, you do you Brah.......

I personally have enjoyed the conversation back and forth on the topic of Coach Cig and his rise thus far, I have enjoyed the back and forth on it, it is OK to have a different opinion if its done with honest intentions, not to be some self proclaimed "HITS: count guy.    Lame.    Yawn.

Nah, you have confused fire starter and click bait.  I only post fire starters which I believe to be true and to think that I suggested earlier in this thread that Cignetti was simply a "good coach", should shut up until he has paid his dues in the power 5 and that folks still needed to maintain a "wait and see" attitude and was attacked says it all.  THAT was my "clownish opinion."

This dude is Prime on steroids.

Best defense they have played is ranked 90th (Maryland), UCLA is 98th and Charlotte is 120th.  Plus two FCS wins.

Glad IU is better and relevant but I maintain my stance.

I have no problem with your stance of opinion,  I think it's wrong in the end but time will tell

However, "attacked".   Please.  If you feel attacked then you're the classic can dish it but cry foul when it's thrown back or ...wait for it....dare challenges on an opinion

Are we as a Community of sports fans not willing to have discourse in discussions without being so sensitive??

Quick take on Prime, his situation is totally different than Cignetti. Prime is an idiot of epic proportions. That guy is a self promoter, cares nothing about his players beside his kid, throws his players under the bus to the media, and operates as if he is perfect and nothing is his fault.

Cignetti made a few statements to ignite the apathetic IU fan base towards football and all he has done is win. What is the problem with this? Love the direction of IU football right now

I mean, when personal insults become the norm and go ignored because you happen to agree with their opinion over mine, I am not sure what other word you'd like me to use.  You've been respectful but I cannot say the same for others.

You might wanna scroll up and check a few other threads unless your head is in the sand.

Attacking the post and the poster's opinion...sure.  Attacking the poster?  Over the line.

Now back to the question...

As a high school coach, you have a middle school quarterback in your district that tears it up in 8th grade games...leads the team to a respectable 75% winning percentage...(Cignetti at IUP).

That same quarterback then becomes the freshman starter the next year at your high school and leads the freshman team to a 61% winning percentage...(Cignetti at Elon).

His sophomore year, he continues to evolve and becomes the JV starter and the team wins 85% of its games (Cignetti at James Madison).

In the summer leading up to his junior year, said quarterback is in line to be the varsity starter and before taking his first varsity snap begins running his mouth about how great he is and how he's gonna run roughshod through the schedule (Cignetti at Indiana).

The kid is playing 6A football now, but his schedule is loaded with 1A/2A teams.  This is no different.

The jury is still out on Cignetti's ability to win at the Power 5 level.  Anyone in denial of that is simply a homer.

Now, only two people have answered my question.  Are you Cignetti homers also fans of Prime?  If not, why?  What are the differences?

Prime won at JACKSON STATE, talked out of his rear end (and continues to do so) and has accomplished next to nothing at the power 5 level.

Not saying the book is complete but both still have something to prove.

I have no problem with Prime or Cignetti, and lets cut to the chase here:   College Football along with Professional Football is FORMS OF ENTERTAINMENT, are not entertained each Saturday and Sunday??  I am.

It's ok to disagree and your analogy you outlined above, I just don't buy, but that's ALSO ok.   I do not see the parallelism

As far as the other stuff.... been on these boards since my Sophomore year at Purdue, 1999, when topic would disappear at the end of the page......needless to say, I have seen it all, been part of the leadership team for over a decade now, this is what I see on the other nonsense......Internet community members who drag on feelings, stemming from YEARS, MONTHS, DAYS of disagreements, and instead of just being okay to disagree it lingers over and over and spills into everything.  So choices are easy, IGNORE feature, (if you must) or simply have a better mindset that you can have healthy discourse without having feelings hurt.  ONLINE personalities probably don't represent sitting at the bar and having these same conversations over nice fresh cold COCA COLA's amongst each other.   That's the internet age we live in, with Social Media (like this site is a form of it) vs Real Life conversation in person.   I believe MANY if not ALL our members if sat in same room and had these sports conversations it would be fruitful and fun.   The downside of social media is the reader chooses how to interpret tone or assume what the post is meant to mean et al.

Okay, I am going to ask for a 3rd time @temptation

I’m not sure what your question has to do with the topic but I would not say “no” with absolute certainly.

When Saban was at MSU, the BCS was the path to the title.  Just gotta win one playoff game and no conference title game.  I lean “no” because Saban succeeded and became a HOF coach once he went to Bama.  Failed in the NFL too.  The SEC was cutting edge on what is now called “NIL” before it was legal.

Harbaugh took Stanford from the depths of despair to a BCS bowl win but no farther.  He won big at Michigan EVENTUALLY but was not elite overnight.   Michigan is a blue blood, top 10-15 job but as we are finding out this year, it’s not OSU, Bama or Georgia where you just reload annually.  It’s NIL approach just doesn’t align with the SEC schools/OSU.  I lean “no” also but would not say it’s impossible.

Posted

My point was this:   You have shrugged of Coach Cig accomplishments at Lower level schools and have said so far at IU proven nothing yet, and I am saying that there can only be 1 champion each year and if the standards for you is National Title or failure then a coach you love Jim Harbaugh would not have your respect if he stayed at Stanford.....he had to come to a blue blood (albeit his alma mater) to achieve that distinction.

GREAT coaches are all around at ALL LEVELS, not being a national title winning coach shouldn't disqualify you as being GREAT.

Finally,  " SEC was cutting edge on what is now called NIL".    What you meant to say was, SEC was the worse cheating conference when it came to paying players under the table.   The next question is, are you okay with as you put it CUTTING EDGE SEC of the 90s' 00s, and yes Michigan and OSU had those Boosters as did EVERY blue blood program as done for DECADES.

Yet Temp you downgrade Coach Cignetti for his accomplishments thus far in this conversation.    Interesting to say the least

it was more than a downgrade...Temp multiple times referred to Cignetti as a "clown".

We know what it is....let him stay in his own little world
