Roncalli - 42

Heritage Hills - 14

Final

Fantastic season for the Patriots making it to the Semi-State in their first year of 4A! They’ve had a great group of players of the last 3 seasons. Good luck to the seniors for their future careers!

Carroll's "worst team in 5 years" isn't looking too bad though ;).

Until the second half. Everiytime Westfield goes north, they must have bus fatigue. Takes them time to get going. Tonight was no exception. Total domination by the Rocks in the second half.

Excellent defenses will do that to you.

I have been stating almost all year the Westfield defense is really darn good. Westfield has made their living on good defense all year. The largest amount of points Westfield gave up was 34 in a bad game against Carmel week 2, they avenged that. I knew the defense was really good when they held Brownsburg to 14 points in a 14-10 loss that is the least amount Brownsburg's potent offense scored all year.

Couple good defense with King running the ball very well and it was the perfect recipe for Westfield playing their style of football. Chargers had a good season though just ran into a very good defense.

On the other side of 6A the Brownsburg Warren Central Semi-State went the way I thought it would. Brownsburg just too much for the Warriors. WC won a close one against a Center Grove team that was about to put @Bash Riprock in at RB because they were hit hard with the injury bug at RB. Brownsburg is good in all 3 phases. They have 3 really good RB's a really good QB a top notch ace WR, a great defense from top to bottom, and excellent kicking game. They will be tough to beat and they play the State Championship against the only team that has any hope of beating them in Westfield.

Andrean scores on 4th and goal from the 1, after a VERY slow whistle.  RB seemed to be stopped on 1st/2nd effort.  10-6, Andrean.

Interested to hear from @Bobref how officials are coached on when to whistle a play dead in that situation.

“Forward progress is the end of advancement of the ball, toward the opponent's goal, in a runner's possession.” I take it from your description that this is not a play where the issue is whether the runner was down because he touched the ground with something other than his hand or foot. Rather, whether the ball became dead as a result of the runner’s forward progress being stopped. To answer that question, we have to know when the rules say the ball is dead. The rule is pretty simple:

“The ball becomes dead and the down is ended:

a. When a runner goes out of bounds, is held so his forward progress is stopped or allows any part of his person other than hand or foot to touch the ground.”

The key word in the rule as it relates to the play you described, is “held.” It’s not enough that the runner is not advancing toward the goal line. He has to be “held” by an opponent. So, if he runs into his own blockers, and is stacked up, but doesn’t go down and is not held by an opponent, the ball remains alive.

i should add, it’s a basic officiating fundamental that you don’t blow the whistle without seeing the ball. A slow whistle is always better than a fast one. The only whistle that causes the ball to become dead is an inadvertent whistle. Otherwise, the whistle just confirms that the ball is, indeed, dead.

I'd say so. Looks like they found another gear. Or turned the amps to 11 so to speak.

They added two missing pieces mid season (underclassman WR and RB) to very solid fundamental building blocks (senior DL, very strong OL, great special teams,   and SR QB).

The offense has quite a remarkable turn around.

You said it, not me. I guess we watched the same game.

364 more days of delusion, excuse making and claims that the true north is “knocking on the door.”

It’s cool though.  I used to do the same thing when it came to the HCC catching up to the MIC.

Carroll's offense sliced through Westfield like butter in the first half. Their first punt wasn't until 4 minutes to go in the third. Best case scenario for Carroll was taking a 28-7 lead into halftime, but the two turnovers were a killer. The first one was devastating because the pass was pretty decent to the Westfield 45 yard line, it was a wet football that gave that one away. But the real killer was the fumble at the Westfield 25 yard line. It really felt like Carroll was destined to go up 21-7 at that point. Instead, Westfield scores with 17 seconds until halftime to tie the game.

This is where playing Westfield is difficult. They are a four quarter team and do it better than anyone. They did it to Snider in 2016, almost did it to Crown Point in 2023, and did it to Carroll last night. You HAVE to build a 14 point lead against this team when the opportunity presents, or you're not winning the game. That program is built on their offensive line and they just wear you down. Kudos to Westfield for getting it done. Hard to win a game when you lose the turnover battle 0-4.

You can say that about a lot of teams. If you're not better 14 weeks down the road, then there's a problem. Should be a good game next weekend since Dwenger also is better now than what they were in Week 1 when they lost to Roncalli 3-0. Think about this for a second. Carroll sliced through Westfield and Center Grove like butter, but never even graced the endzone vs Dwenger. Expect a good game.

Rumor has it everyone is healthy and they’re “getting the ball to the right people now” 😉

That Jarvis kid is definitely "the right people."  It was quite enjoyable watching him run ... even if it was all over Harrison when they played here.

The pieces really compliment each other.  SR RB is speed on edges and Jarvis is the pound you inside.

I guarantee the Roncalli vs. Dwenger game won’t be 3-0 this time. It will be a war

I am a massive fan of high quality football and the best football in Indiana is played within Marion and the donut counties, specifically the HCC.
