The IHSAA gets no revenue from the Sectionals. They get almost all the revenue from Regional, Semi-State and State. Its why they have no incentive to devote what little brain power they have to a seeding plan for sectional.

Why would basketball coaches want a blind draw? Whether it's football or basketball, the two best teams shouldn't meet in the first round. I maintain that overall tournament revenue will go up with a seeded system. But the tournament should be seeded anyway based on principle alone.

I’ve seen it lol. He and my step-brother were on Westlane’s team together in junior high. He might have been full grown as a 7th grader. Eric Gordon at tailback would have been something. He was 6’3 and built like a house.

I agree but parents and kids are going to believe what they're going to believe. My days as a girls basketball coach were spent having "conversations" with parents whose 9-year-olds were playing an indoor travel softball game at 2 a.m. the night before in February because "that's when the games are." When I ask why they subject themselves to that and isn't that a bit of overkill, the response is "she has to or she'll get left behind." I don't think a lot of coaches say that, but the parents think it. Parents - especially the ones who micromanage their kids' careers - are *terrified* of getting "left behind" and their kids "losing their spot." (the micromanaging-type parents are also the least likely to send their kids to their districted school unless it has a powerhouse, state championship-level program in their preferred sport). They had Derrick Mayes and Eric Allen as WR/CBs in 1990-91 but could never get past Ben Davis.

North seemed to also have some offensive line issues to solve, probably all fixable. We had success running (much like at Reitz) but they did a good job getting QB pressure on. I think the young QB has a ways to go but the potential is there for him....they didn't stand out at WR as well as Reitz to me. All in all though very similar team to Reitz.

I would venture a guess to say that Fountain Central has been the class of the WRC over the long haul. Occasionally one of the other schools would have a few solid classes and have a good 3-4 year run, but as it is with small schools talent is cyclical and these schools ride the roller coaster. My question is has Herb King now tied Brian Moore's record of coaching at the most WRC schools? He's been at Rockville, Seeger & Fountain Central. Moore was at Seeger, FC & Parke Heritage. Does Herbie like Brian's sloppy seconds?

That’s nonsense/coach speak used to poison kids. If you are good enough the coach isn’t going to give your spot away…but I’ve heard it plenty.

Not sure if that's the case - schools of 3000+ kids tend to specialize just because if you don't, the kid who plays year-round might take your spot - but Darius Latham & Daniel Jones were both multi-year starters in both sports. They may have been the exception rather than the rule. David Bell (WC), Dawand Jones (BD) & a handful of others have been standouts in both sports in 6A.

I don't know if Merrillville is as much of a lock to come out of the North as others believe. Still think they're the favorites but they lost a lot of talent from their team from last year. They have a JV sectional but regionals and semistate won't be easy. Snider is definitely a possibility to be the North representative and FW North is the wildcard in the situation. Factor in Valpo, MC, and Mishawaka as potential dark horses. For the South, I think that DC is the favorite currently but I have heard they lost a good amount talent as well. I think that Harrison could easily be the team that gets to LOS. The sectional matchup between them and DC might decide who gets there. Castle and Evansville North are the potential sleepers I see down South. Overall though, I think that 5A South isn't nearly as deep as the North. I'll go out on a limb here and say that the North will take the 5A crown this year.

Huntley -Illinois 7A Kankakee- Illinois 5A North- Indiana 5A Brownsburg- Indiana 6A and then little ole Gibson Southern as a 3A school. It just never gets old. Every offseason under hart the team is training against schools 2x/3x/4x it’s size….and the community wants this challenge with no shortcuts

Temp, I think I may have misinterpreted your question. Regardless of guys playing multiple sports, there should definitely be enough room for both sports to succeed. Ideally, they should feed off of each other and challenge each other. And most certainly it would be a boast to either sport if elite athletes (such as David Bell) are allowed to play both sports.

The claim could easily be made that the GOP packed the current court though. It's not as though the number of justices serving has been set in stone. If the point of expanding to 9 was to have one justice per federal circuit courts, then with the current 13 districts, it makes sense to match that, right?

Yep. I’ve been saying this as well. It’s a compromise that gives more than it takes. It keeps things pretty much exactly how they are but it just seeds the top two teams in each sectional and keeps them on opposite sides of the bracket. If the sectional is loaded with three or four good teams then you have the chance of playing the third or fourth best team one round earlier than if you seeded all three or four. One round isn’t a big deal.

Hard to see Northview going to CI. It's a bit on the big side for the WIC, but it's way too small for Conference Indiana and its enrollment hasn't been growing for years.

My scheduling belief is ... *-If you're in a weak conference, schedule one heavyweight and one team slightly at/above your level. *-If you're in a conference where you're in the middle of the pack, schedule one team you can beat and one that's at/above your level. *-If you're in a strong conference (like the MIC), schedule one tough game but try to get a game that's winnable. Guys need to have some degree of confidence and they get beaten down by losing. The three that are bigger have been on their schedule for the last quarter-century. At least two of those three remain in their conference.

Of course it is, just like the Fort Wayne newspapers. Too bad they are all left leaning, it's costing them millions. Don't mix business with politics...........it's a death sentence. I would say so. I like the idea of using the ranking, but some coaches will abuse it when already up 35 points.
