The key to LCC being able to have a shot at winning is tied to a couple of things ... figuring out how to stifle the passing attack and doing so with a defensive scheme that limits the run ... not necessarily an easy task. This is particularly true given that Andrean will sling the ball and do so successfully ... and LCC's vulnerable to the pass under their current defensive scheme. Andrean falters when rushing for under 100 yards in a game. The rush limit is definitely doable as LCC limited Rochester's 3-headed running attack to just under 60% of its season average rushing and making for the second-lowest run total of the season. With that said, Rochester didn't have a passing game to offset, so LCC's going to have to do something other than cramming 10 in the box as a defensive scheme. If LCC puts 10 in the box, they are likely to get scorched in the air as Andrean's QBs have around a 70% completion rate and have aired the ball out a couple hundred times and have 18 TDs to show for it. My guess is that they are going to have to give plenty of different looks on D and rely on stunting. The key might be in studying what Merrillville or Lowell was able to do on the run. Then again we are talking about a 6A and 4A team, so the obvious answer might be, "They were just bigger and had depth." The bigger issue for LCC is going to be the offensive side of the ball. Andrean has only given up a max of 28 points this season. When giving up 27-28 points, they are 1-3 for the season. If LCC is able to find a way to trade punches, then that gives them a puncher's chance. The problem though is that offense is somewhat choppy for LCC. Rochester held LCC to 24 points for the game there was a late-game TD to get to that 24. LCC will need to find a way to move the ball and keep it close to provide some potential slack for the defense to get things figured out ... again, I think LCC's going to need to do something other than standard D to have a shot. Special teams have helped LCC this season, but Andrean's likely to blunt that ... and least from the kicking side. They have a kicker who can kick touchbacks with 8 of them for the season and average kickoffs of 47 yards. By contrast, LCC has one touchback and averages around 32 yards. They are both roughly even around 32 yards for punts. Where LCC tends to have the advantage is in kick and punt returns. While averages tend to be similar, LCC tends to be explosive on returns and is always dangerous in that category. LCC has three games with punt returns of 40 or more yards and four games with kickoff returns of 40 or more yards. Andrean;s stats, which might be lacking, show one game with a punt return at 40 or more yards and no games with a kickoff return of 40 or more yards. LCC's Henry is 5-6 on FGs with a long of 28 and 54 of 56 on PATs. Andrean's Cusick is 2-3 on FGs with a long of 27 and 29 of 36 on PATs. Leg points favor LCC.

I would guess that almost all of Stucky's yardage came after MD had pulled their starters in the 3rd or 4th quarter. The touchdown came very very late in the game. But, as stated, new year, new teams. I don't expect a running clock in this one. I just hope to be playing at the Bowl in semi state.

From afar, (just looking at box scores) it looks to me like Merrillville has not been the same team since their beat down of Valparaiso five weeks ago. Combine that with some of the excuses and player attitudes mentioned by our “Merrillville insider” and I’d be shocked if this one is not much closer than the last meeting and actually give Valparaiso a great chance.

EC is probably out of school on Friday for Veteran's Day. The Saturday conflict between the Regional football game and the Bosse craft show was definitely an issue last year. The Tigers will have our hands full in this one. Yep, Mt. Vernon Fortville broke the jinx last year. I believe Coach Lidy wearing shorts in sub-35 degree weather may have somehow offset the effects of the Enlow "Eastern to Central Time Zone Travel spell".

The Packers and the New Jersey Nets are great examples of what happens when management abdicates its responsibility and enables a player to, in essence, dictate the direction of the team. The Packers did it when they broke the bank for Rogers, strapping them unbearably at other positions, and then let him become the de facto offensive coordinator. The Nets did it when they let Kyrie Irving dictate when and where he would play. The result is two dysfunctional teams that have deteriorated from championship contenders to dumpster fires.

The Law of Unintended Consequences strikes again!

Congrats to Northridge pulling out the upset yet again this season, but I have to be honest that I'm disappointed NorthWood couldn't get a done. Now a giant "What if?" for the Panthers this year. Would have loved to have seen them at full strength this offseason, and potentially battling New Prairie, Kokomo/Columbia City, and then New Pal/Roncalli. What a heck of a postseason run that could have been. Best of luck to the Cavemen and Raiders this weekend! Would love to see Northridge pull out another repeat from last year on Friday night

I think two is a near certainty at this point unless Tennessee loses to South Carolina somehow. The question is THREE. If LSU gets past UGA in the SEC title game (should it happen) buckle up. Once again, you CANNOT put LSU in WITHOUT Tenneseee.

There are numerous factors but the main one is burn out I really think they should go back to closing the summers, weights only, open gyms, no practices. I also feel we have lost a lot of great coaches because of the time commitments. Kids and coaches need time to relax. Kids need to be involved in all sports not just one. My first 20 years of teaching I coached 3 sports now entering my 34th year I only coach 1 it was a tough decision but the time it took was overwhelming. Have a great winter

My opinion would be different for all rounds prior to the finals, for all the reasons you bring up. Even though the IHSAA claims ownership of all tourney images, they're simply repackaging what previously existed at the sites. There's too much variability in image/network quality for it to reliable before the finals.

Last year, each participant in all six class finals had some form of replay on the sideline. As a 1A school with no money, we found a way to make even the cheapest replay system deliver two camera angles, despite the challenges of delivering video over WAN in an NFL stadium. There are no significant obstacles to replay, other than deciding to deploy it.

I really hate this scenario; however, IMO, you have to put LSU in if they win the SEC. I have a feeling scenarios like the above are going to be extremely frequent when the field expands. We could end up often seeing a National Chamption with at least 1 suspect loss.

As much as we can theorize that the Committe will try to put 2 SEC teams in, I have a feeling they'll try avoiding 2 Big Ten teams. Oregon has to have zero chance due to the Georgia loss. I can easily see USC having a chance if they can just find a way to beat UCLA, ND, and Oregon.

Agree. Would love to see some of those matchups in the future though. I get that Snider, Carroll, and Homestead are looking for bigger fish to fry. But I think surrounding area schools could engage in some good battles with some of the other SAC teams.

West Lafayette was pretty impressive live in person vs Hanover Friday, when I took that game in. They had 30 1st downs, 550 yards offense, their 4th string sophomore, RB popped for 41 CARRIES!!! Very Non traditional WL offensive attack, but that WIND was significant in Lake county Friday night. QB was very good, I think 12-13 for 130 or so, more yards on the ground. They almost punched one in before half, settled for FG, made 23-14 at half, Hanover started out hot and forced penalties and deep punt, got great field position and capitalized, back and forth 1st and then 2nd half WL just wore on them and pulled away.
