So was Allen Iverson, but he still played football. Worked out okay for him...from a sports standpoint at least. I hate this idea of "focusing on a sport." That's BS. You can play football and then go in the gym and get 1,000 shots up after. If you are really that good, you aren't going to just forget how to play basketball overnight. Is there a risk for injury, yes. There's a risk for injury walking in and out of your door everyday for school or work. There's a risk of injury walking up and down the stairs in your house everyday. High school is the only time you get to do multiple sports most times than not. College is for "focusing on a sport". It's ridiculous that coaches and parents let their kids think this way these days. Sorry for getting off topic. Just rubs me the wrong way seeing ATHLETES not being ATHLETES and just being basketball players or being football players or baseball players and not being ATHLETES. If I were a college coach for any sport I would want athletes because those are always the fiercest competitors, guys that want to win at everything they do. Again sorry for my off topic rant. Proceed with sustainability lol3 points

Lake Central is one of the biggest underachievers there is in Indiana HS football. No doubt about it.2 points

Well, if they do Memorial will be walking the trail of tears back to the locker room to turn their pads in the next day. The Titans aren't just going to the games for the popcorn this year. They're ready to make a run. Just sayin. #OnceBitTwiceShy2 points

Preaching to the choir Backer. A shame that sports specialization is being preached in club programs all around the state every day.2 points

It’s disappointing. But, in an attempt to make something positive out of it, I think it’s likely this play will be included in the weekly Training Video distributed by the Indiana Football Officials Association. It reaches about 700 or so officials, so we’ll try to make it a teaching moment.2 points

The Terre Haute schools have struggled with the same issues (although to a lesser extent) as the NCC schools. Jobs leaving, urban blight, open enrollment, yadda yadda yadda. Consolidation might give a shot at in the arm initially but I expect sustained success to be hard to come by in their new conference consisting of Danville, Lebanon, Harrison and McCutcheon.2 points

I don't think Coach Bragg would have any problem with it. I think coach Tidd at BNL and coach Moore at Seymour are pretty competitive guys so I don't think they would either. I want a strong conference. As a Floyd Central fan/alumni, I realize that records really don't matter. Yeah it looks good to rack up wins. But I'd rather have a team that is battle tested before they play the Castles and E-North's of the world in Sectionals. I'd be down for CN and BS. Absolutely.1 point

Since closing the conference, the SIAC has had 6-8 teams ranked in the top 100 for the final rankings after the state finals each year. The current rankings are consistent with how the conference has traditionally finished in the final rankings, with the one exception being the rank of the top conference team, which will be heavily influenced on how deep in the tournament the SIAC teams go.1 point

Here’s a scenario. Just spitballing here. Three non-conference games to be played weeks 1-3. Four divisional games to be played weeks 4-7 (2 home and 2 away). Week 8 is the SAC championship with the other teams playing their counterparts. One division hosts the other (Division B hosts odd-numbered years. Division A hosts even-numbered years.) Week 9 is cross-divisional games based on the divisional standings. Division A champ vs Division B runner-up Division A runner-up vs Division B champ Division A 3rd place vs Division B 4th place Division A 4th place vs Division B 5th place Division A 5th place vs Division B 3rd place Whichever division hosted the week 8 games now goes on the road for the week 9 games. Other ideas for week 9 could just be that you play a cross-divisional game against a predetermined opponent. Example below. Division A: Snider, Dwenger, Luers, Northrop, Concordia Division B: Carroll, Homestead, North Side, South Side, Wayne Each team is given a pre-determined list of three teams each for a potential week 9 opponent. The opponents are listed in order of priority. Highest priority is the team listed first and the lowest priority is the team listed last. Snider - Homestead, Carroll, North Side Dwenger - Carroll, Homestead, Wayne Luers - South Side, Wayne, Homestead Northrop - North Side, South Side, Carroll Concordia - Wayne, North Side, South Side Carroll - Dwenger, Snider, Northrop Homestead - Snider, Dwenger, Luers North Side - Northrop, Concordia, Snider South Side - Luers, Northrop, Concordia Wayne - Concordia, Luers, Dwenger Let’s say the division standings are as follows after week 7: Division A 1. Dwenger 2. Luers 3. Snider 4. Northrop 5. Concordia Division B 1. Carroll 2. Homestead 3. North Side 4. South Side 5. Wayne Therefore, in week 8, you have the following games: Dwenger at Carroll for the SAC title Luers at Homestead (2nd place teams) Snider at North Side (3rd place teams) Northrop at South Side (4th place teams) Concordia at Wayne (last place teams) Then, for week 9, you schedule match-ups from each team’s pre-determined opponent list that avoids a repeat match-up from week 8. Carroll was listed first (top priority) for Dwenger but Dwenger played them in week 8. Therefore, you go with the #2 priority team for Dwenger which is Homestead. Because Homestead is playing Dwenger in week 9, Snider is scheduled their #2 priority team which is Carroll. Luers played their #3 priority team (Homestead) in week 8. However, they can’t play their #1 priority team (South Side) because Northrop would have to play North Side which leaves Concordia with Wayne (who they already played in week 8). Or Luers playing South Side would mean Concordia plays North Side but that also doesn’t work because Northrop’s three pre-determined opponents are already schedule. So Luers would have to be scheduled their #2 priority opponent (Wayne) to make the rest of the schedule work. Northrop gets North Side (#1 priority opponent) and Concordia gets South Side (#3 priority opponent). Week 8 gave us Division A at Division B so week 9 gives us Division B at Division A. Homestead at Dwenger Carroll at Snider Wayne at Luers North Side at Northrop South Side at Concordia1 point

The question is whether Harrison and McCutcheon hold a grudge and work to keep them out. After all, Jeff voted with the rest of the NCC to kick Harrison out of the league citing, laughably, drive times and competitive landscape. Realize that 1) Jeff is using the rest of the NCC right now as a pre-post-season snack and 2) if the drive to Harrison/McCutcheon is too long, I doubt a team will feel "refreshed" ONLY having to drive to Jeff instead. Harrison had TH on its non-conference schedule for a while, so it's not like they haven't done it before. Not all that fun, but then again, it's not any worse than traveling all the way over to Anderson and Richmond.1 point
-
I’d love to see the divisions split as evenly as possible and having the two division champs play for the SAC championship in week 9. That way one team gets the bell. Have the other teams in the conference play their counterpart in the opposite division so that it’s 2nd place vs 2nd place, 3rd vs 3rd, 4th vs 4th, and 5th vs 5th.1 point

So passing doesn't count? Nor do special teams? Noted. I'm sorry Carroll's special teams were better than Center Grove's, bringing Carroll's total yardage to 432. You failed to leave that out of your post. Do you work for CNN?1 point

I have some concerns about our Secondary as well. We lost our CB1 this past May to a tragic accident. God rest his soul. I definitely think it's going to be a close game. Floyd Central plays so much better at home than they do on the road. If this were in Bedford, I do believe I'd take the Stars. I think FCs advantage is that their running game is very strong. They're top 10 in the state in rushing. I think Bragg will try to eat the clock and keep BNLs QB on the sideline.1 point

I can't see the NCC expanding. The only schools that really fit their footprint left the league (Logansport, Indianapolis Tech, New Castle, Huntington North) and aren't interested in returning, the travel is insane (Logansport-to-Richmond and New Castle-to-Lafayette are two big reasons why those two schools are no longer in the league). The only other schools that "might" fit are some county seat schools like Greenfield-Central, but they turned the NCC down 20+ years ago when Jeff left for the HCC and Huntington North got the spot instead. It was founded as an interurban league a century ago, which made sense when few schools played football and had a lot of the other Olympic sports, and so they needed opponents (and basketball delivered marquee opponents several games a year), but the demographics have changed. Honestly, loyalty to the league is the only thing holding it together at this point.1 point

We wrestled them at least twice during the '21-'22 and '22-'23 seasons in a tournament at Rensselaer. My son(285) pinned Will Rowlett in :35 the first year, then pinned Kamron Carney in :25 the following year.1 point

Any variation of the word “tough” is definitely not an adjective I’d use to describe the Hoosier Hills Conference as it pertains to football. As for Jennings County, you’re talking about a program that’s only had six winning seasons since the high school opened in 1968. And five of those winning seasons were 6-4 or 5-4.1 point

It's apparent that people either love or hate The King. Anyways, Week 7... Attica @ Riverton Parke - Pretty sure I said the Ramblers would win again. Just didn't think it would be against NV. The Panthers pounded SV. Heck, I heard even some linemen were scoring TDs. I think they'll do some more pounding this week. They are on a mission. Sorry Ramblers, you're just in the way. RP wins, again. Covington @ Seeger - The Trojans got exposed by PH last week. They may not win another game. The Patriots proved they were the 2nd best team in the WRC. They should handle business again this week. Seeger 35 Cov 13 Fountain Central @ South Vermillion - The Mustangs slipped up last week, but can still finish with a winning regluar season. The Wildcats are still trying to figure out the color of the train that knocked all their Visors off last week. (Yes, they're still wearing visors) Despite injuries, The King's play calling ability shines. FC 42 SV 28 Parke Heritage @ North Vermillion - Good win by the Woolfs last week. Sets up a nice Parke County show down next week. The Falcons are reeling. Their best chances at a win have passed. PH 30 NV 181 point

NCC has a couple of issues. One is that basketball rules in most of those communities, and for years, football has been seen as something to do until winter. The other is demographics. Marion, Muncie, Richmond and Anderson have seen *massive* population declines in the last 40 years. Kokomo has seen a bit of one. They were once thriving factory towns, but have lost population as the auto industry and other factories have closed shop, and those who *do* live and work in/near those communities are often at county schools. Mississinewa, Oak Hill, Eastbrook, Centerville, Northeastern, Yorktown, Delta, Pendleton Heights and Lapel all have strong athletic programs. How many kids walking those halls would likely have been going to the "city" school 30 years ago? In terms of Muncie - it seems most Ball State faculty/staff I know lives in Fishers or northeast Indy and commutes up I-69. You need bodies to have a good football program, and when your population is declining and your community is struggling economically, it's difficult to build the robust feeder program you need to have success.1 point

Munster is a very affluent community with arguably the best school system in NWI. They support all sports and pay their teachers and head coaches extremely well. They have two main issues as I see it. First and foremost, Munster is the medical hub for NWI and thus the demographics are heavily populated with Middle Eastern and Asian descent where football is not a sport they are familiar with. Second issue is Chicago Catholic League ie Mt Carmel, Brother Rice and St Rita scoop a lot of their very good athletes especially football and baseball players. Andrean will get some but historically not many. Munster is very competitive in really all of the other sports for both boys and girls. Football will remain a challenge. I feel the new coach for the past two seasons has them playing much better but the numbers aren’t high for a 5A enrollment.1 point

Shelbyville and Greenwood will both soon be big fish in a 3A/2A conference next year. That should help them both. I expect both teams to fair better joining the Hoosier Legends Conference with Indian Creek, Triton Central, Speedway, Beech Grove, Monrovia and Tri-West. Might take some embarrassing lumps at first but they will find succes and success breeds success. Richmond should be better than 0-10 every year. They should at least compete with the Muncie Centrals and Marions of the world. No knowledge on Jennings County other than thats a toughish conference most years.1 point

I agree this is a catch. But my focus is on finding out why we didn’t get it right. The streamed clip I saw did not show the back judge, and this was his call 100%. I looked at the Hudl video, which does show a wide view. The back judge is in trouble right away because of his initial position. He is head up on the football ... which is all the way on the left hash. To compound the problem, the formation is strong -- with trips, no less -- to the linesman’s side. The back judge’s initial key in this formation is the widest receiver in the trips, so he needed to line up accordingly. B should at least be in the middle of the field in this situation. Instead, he is running along the end line trying to close on the play when he has to make the critical call. On a bang bang play like that, you want to be stationary when you’re processing what you see. See, those mechanics rules do serve a purpose. 😉1 point

Forever! I like how some OH places have championships on the left & runner ups on the right. Heck I'd put up any for any extra curricular activities. Put those FFA, band, dance/cheer, and etc up. Have a 4H state fair Grand champ, put a sign in their yard. I'm all about celebrating the success of our communities in many facets.1 point

Not quite but it is close. We have 35 on the varsity roster. I believe GS has close to 60. You could see it Friday night in the imbalance on the sidelines. Regardless, once sectionals get here, our 20 guys (effective roster) need to be able to go the distance. I said the same as you Friday after the game--losing that game may be the best thing that happens. This is truth. Gibson Southern is an excellent team--obviously VERY well coached.
