  1. Coronavirus will be a distant memory by August. Hopefully toilet paper supplies have returned to normal by then.

  5. From a friend: The country that stormed the beaches at Normandy, raised the flag at Iwo Jima, helped rebuild Europe and put a man on the Moon now runs around like Chicken Litlle and shuts down because less than a thousand people are sick. Stop being so soft and suck it up, folks! If you’re sick, stay home. If you’re not, wash your hands, brush your teeth, roll up your sleeves and get to work. Stop going nuts and hoarding Purell and toilet paper. Help those in need. Be kind to one another, but quit cowering.

  6. One pro that most people have probably missed is that it's easier to spot the dog crap when some uncaring person walks their dog on the field and lets their dog do its business without cleaning it up. Nothing worse than that first tackle of the game, heading back to the huddle, and realizing that's not the sweet smell of success. 😃

  7. Small win for IO today, cancelled the flights for the weekend trip, then rebooked same flights, and pocketed about $100.

  8. I tried to buy aluminum foil yesterday but they were sold out. Everyone is buying it up to make a lifetime supply of tinfoil hats.

  9. Pros: -Varsity, JV, 7th and 8th grade, and youth league teams all play on our turf. Many times Sunday is the only day there isn't a game. -PE classes use it during the day -Baseball and Softball are able to hit/field on it -Track teams can run/workout on it saving shins and legs -No mud -Little maintenance -Uniforms last longer -Tends to look nicer -Easier to mark off penalties/ do measurements (lines more accurate) -Concussion type injuries are less common from hitting the turf in a helmet as opposed to a hard ground in November. (this is an observation, not a fact necessarily) Cons: Hella rubber pellets in my truck/house/classroom after practice

  10. I hear that. Although without Sportscenter late at night or over morning coffee, we might have to * gasp * talk as a family. 😄

  12. If Spring sports do cancel, let's take baseball for instance. Is there anything preventing players and coaches from meeting another local team and playing at a non school facility? No team buses, get there on your own, and not mandatory. Teams would not have to wear any uniform provided by the school, or use any school purchased equipment. Obviously it would not be a sanctioned contest, but would allow players to still compete.

  15. Coaches The 2020 IFCA Clinic is still on. We have had several college staffs and high school speakers denied permission to attend by their respective leadership. We are working diligently to create an agenda that still provides a great opportunity for professional development for those in attendance. We will work to have that agenda complete around 3:00 pm today. It will be updated on the IFCA website, SportYou, and Twitter. We appreciate your patience and understanding as we navigate this different time in our region and country. The following speakers have been denied permission to attend the clinic: Purdue University Ball State University Indiana State Southern Illinois University of Indianapolis

  16. I'm just glad we can finally start using taxpayer funding on something other than children and their athletic endeavors if all leagues are shut down

  17. Have to agree. It might not be the best by itself, but there's none better. When we played down there last season it felt like a major college atmosphere. Pretty incredible.

  19. Actually SEVERAL games played by SEVERAL different groups of children on different teams. As well as the students in the schools physical education classes, who could use it daily for class. PLUS the band and color guard students who could likely benefit from it for practice and competitions... AND the various community events that could be hosted by the school renting out the facility

  20. For anyone that has not coached at a school that is more inner-city, you have no idea the challenges coaches face. You typically are much more than a coach at a school like this and winning football games is important but developing men is most important and the scoreboard on Friday night does not always reflect the quality of coach you are.

  22. Cuts his speeches down, keeping them under 15 minutes so he doesn't gaffe, arguing about not standing at the next debate. He is old and tired, should be retired..... SF thinks if he gets the nomination, he'll call Hillary up for his VP pick.......Which means if he wins in November, he's dead by a week after inauguration......

  23. While we do some team community service projects, similar to the ones listed above, one of my favorite things we do is require a certain number of community service hours before the season starts. Over the summer, the boys are expected to find their own ways to help their community and attain the hours on a sign-off sheet. Opportunities can be as simple as volunteering at our own youth/middle school camp or as in depth as volunteering their time at an assisted living facility or homeless shelter. The results have been great and our kids love doing it! I highly recommend it to any team.

  24. There's a little "reliving the event" from the other side that impacts many kids that do activities like this. That juxtaposition is good for realizing that A LOT goes in to making Friday Night happen. One of the things that I remember when my boys' teams went to lay wreaths is that they just didn't lay wreaths and leave. Part of the process was to say the person's name out loud and perhaps thank them for their service. For my boys, they also kept the tags that were on the wreaths and also took a picture of each tombstone as a reminder. For my boys, the event resonated with them more so as they thought about what they were doing in more than just doing the laying of the wreaths. It also brought about dialogue about the various military conflicts and wars and where our family's members fit in to that as their grandfathers on each side both served ... my dad in the Air Force and my wife's father in the Navy.

And it only highlights the utter incompetence, arrogance, and corruption that is endemic when we the people let government control much of an industry.
