  1. This is a "broken system that Congress has created," Rep. Justin Amash (L–Mich.) says. Which is why this country desperately needs term limits for both legislative houses......

  2. Football reaches out to more than just the players on the team. The band and cheerleaders get to participate, as well as any students who help in support positions like managers and concession workers. That would reach out a little further in the student population. Even students in attendance are at a supervised event and not looking for other things to do. I don't agree with this as an investment. If you save one child from turning the wrong direction, what is that worth?

  3. I enjoyed watching the game over the weekend on IHSAATV. Looked like Warriors really dominated with the Power and Trojan up their right side, mix in some backside action with counter to 20 and 12. Really like #26 burst from NK when 12 was out of the game as well. As I like to say at times, the RIVER WAS FLOWING !! Good job up front Warriors.

  4. I don’t think a school should ever give up on football unless the numbers aren’t there. It’s the only sports where all segments of students can play. You use business jargon like investment, return, resources etc. Schools aren’t businesses, they’re schools. If they were businesses not sure there would be any sports.

  5. I personally think that only the games between the 3 in the tie should be counted to help keep unethical pradtices at bay. For example: Let's say HH is up on Cass 50-0 late in the 4th... do they do "whatever it takes" to keep Cass from scoring in garbage time knowing it could mean the East Championship ? ...and if yes, is it justified in this case ?

  7. I would think GS will have a running clock the second half of this game but its a county rival so who knows. I don't really see them scoring 14 points either as JH predicts. From what I understand their RB twisted his ankle against TC and never returned.

  8. I'll take MD over all of them. Current sophomore class was undefeated and not really challenged as 8th graders and freshman. Starting quarterback, running back, center and safety are sophomores and several others playing varsity as well. Sounds like the next few years in the SIAC are going to be fun.

  11. after the next IHSAA board meeting, they always release infractions in the minutes: it will be public knowledge at that point.

  13. Yet for some strange reason they do exactly that. Why was the long-time traditional one-class basketball tournament, one of the best athletic events in the nation, split out to four enrollment-based classes? It sure as heck wasn't to increase attendance. No, it was mostly because smaller schools finally got sick and tired of feeding into sectionals where they inevitably ran into the buzzsaw of the larger, more powerful school. See places like Kokomo for prime examples. And in this age of "Johnny needs a trophy" and "all kids are special" what better way to feed that than to increase the number of trophies? AKA change the competitive balance of the game.

  14. Whiting will play their last two games against Griffith and Boone Grove. I also think the Hammond schools are playing the last two games as well, but can't confirm.

  15. I coached my son in baseball until his 8th grade year, all in Rec. We both loved it. I will say, I had the benefit that he was legit one of the better players each year. Not sure I would want to coach him in "school sports" One if the things I developed early on with him was the minute we got into the car, he would start talking about the game. I would stop and ask if he wanted to talk to dad or coach. He almost always asked for coach. He wanted to get better. He is now in HS, and plays three sports, and while I miss being on the field with him, I love to just watch. I would never trade those memories.

  16. I’m kinda torn on this one more like amateur news. A real news organization would of used sources to let us know why the player was ineligible and who it was.

  17. I'd like to volunteer myself as an impartial judge, since as you pointed out earlier this year, we only have ugly moms at Chatard! And a late congrats to the Irish on another big win. Sagarin currently has your schedule as the hardest in the state, and to my knowledge, that doesn't include your GCL games. Very impressive what your team has been able to do so far. Beat the Braves by 1000 next week.

  18. Well, I’m probably not going think of the Cathedral game as especially “competitive“. It was, I think (Carmel may have been an exception), Cathedral’s only game against a team from Indiana so far not featuring a running clock....but that’s not exactly something aspirational. But Chatard was as, or more, competitive in those games as was Carmel....certainly more so than Westfield it would appear. Both of those teams commonly considered amongst the 5-6 best 6A teams. That said, and I’m not saying anything new, I think Cathedral way overmatches everyone in the state excepting, possibly, Center Grove. They’re probably going to be every bit as good next year, btw. As to “gifting” Merrillville 2 TDs. In the case of the DOUBLE Unsportsmanlike......yep.....that was a gift. I’m not entirely sure on the initial call (Which I’m assuming was seen as a taunt) but clearly remarks must have been made that definitely warranted the second Unsportsmanlike. Bear in mind, I wish everyone played the game like Marvin Harrison but that’s not the game these days. I’m not sure I’d consider the strip/fumble TD as a “gift”, though......at least a gift based on sloppy play. The Chatard tailback was injured during the play and, apparently, gave up the ball. That said, it WAS worth the price of admission to see a 6’4” 350 lb D lineman clutching the football truck 50 yards down the field swatting or running over tacklers like gnats.

  19. Having played against the 2002 and 2003 Chatard teams and watched them in person until 2011 or so, when I hear "Chatard's best ever" my mind goes to the 2001-2007 stretch. Teams had multiple D1 players and played the state's best in Roncalli and typically a GCL team. Coach L ran a different offense than Coach D, so maybe those teams don't appear to be explosive, but if those teams are the measuring stick... it's far longer than 1 yard.

  20. Dropping the program is never the answer. Teams do get better, the culture does change, etc.

  21. I’m surprised that someone hasn’t. I was never a believer in school extracurriculars (including sports) as regards keeping kids out of trouble when I played simply because I was never going to get into trouble - it just wasn’t part of my make up. Admittedly, the fact that sports allowed me to go to college was a bonus, though. In the rear view mirror of life, having raised kids and seeing others grow up with them, I now have little doubt that sports and other extracurricular activities are an absolute salvation for many. I’ve seen more than a few kids that fell into the cracks of life once those things were taken away. Frankly, my oldest could have cared less for school and would admit that it was ONLY sports that made him care about his grades. In his case, he cared about grades all the way through college sports and ended up with a paid masters degree as a grad assistant. Honestly, not sure where he would have ended up without football. He was a pretty headstrong (or hard headed..) kid that needed coaches just as headstrong.

  22. Dropping a football program is not the answer and would be doing a disservice to these young men that have committed to a TEAM. If these young men are learning discipline, respect, teamwork, and accountability, this football program is a success. Some of these young men will not be taught these imperative life lessons anywhere else.

  23. Pulling kids off the football field in a city such as Anderson means potentially putting them in the streets. These young men need football and ending the football program could lead to much worse.

  24. Sir, you left the YOUNGEST and most spry up and coming coach in the WRC off of your list. There is a man named Kenny Kerns that coaches football and proudly wears a Wildcat visor at South Vermillion. Now enjoy this piping hot fart sandwich on Regional Friday.

  25. “This is insanity,” Dr. James P. Phillips, an attending physician at Walter Reed who is a critic of Trump and his handling of the pandemic. “Every single person in the vehicle during that completely unnecessary presidential ‘drive-by’ just now has to be quarantined for 14 days. They might get sick. They may die.” Wait a tic - I thought masks were supposed to work, right?......"You wear one to protect others"......is that not the case?
