  1. Is covid not 100% government paid for? I don't think any amount of money would move children to the head of the line for a vaccine.

  2. The foul is “grabbing the facemask.” It’s not the “strike” that the rule is trying to discourage. It’s the grabbing and twisting. And it’s not a head injury the rules makers are trying to protect against. It’s a neck injury.

  4. I agree....It's easy to look back now and judge, but at the time, it looked like the right move. I am not sure what happened, but the program never really did improve. One of the places that has higher expectations than IU is Boston. They are currently the 5 seed in the conference. being competitive is not enough for Celtics fans. They are just 20-18 as of today. The timing may be just right for Stevens to start over somewhere else. No better place than Bloomington. When it comes to big named coaches, there just are not that many out there. There are a few other names if Stevens is not the guy. I think both Calbert Cheaney and Dane Fife have paid their dues. A name not mentioned much is Scott Drew. he has done well at Baylor and has them as a 1 seed this year. I hear Thad Matta's name thrown around. That one is intriguing. One other name I will throw out there......Tommy Amaker at Harvard. he has done well there for some time. If a culture change is needed, he would be good fit. What may be just as important this time around though, is names to avoid Topping that list is Rick Pitino; just WAY too much baggage. Next is Steve Alford.......while I was a fan of his as a player, I just don't believe he has ever shown he is a great head coach. My guess is that John Calipari's time at UK is coming to an end. I say stay away as I am not sure IU folks are willing to take the path that UK did to succeed. We still like to think of IU as an actual school still and not just a developmental system for the NBA; which is what UK became under Cal. John Beilein is next. He is 68 years old. Great coach, don't get me wrong, but can he commit to a complete rebuild of a program? The other names may have to deal with the "Archie hangover". Resume's look good right now, buuuuuuut. None of the names really make anyone think, this is a home run. The irony in this is that Kelvin Sampson will be coaching in the tournament at IU this week. I really liked him as a head coach. I did not like his willfulness to break the same rules that got him in trouble at Oklahoma. The crazy part is that what he was busted for is now legal in the NCAA. Bring him back to IU????

  5. Which.... is an opinion. Looks pretty crappy to me.

  6. @Muda69, I just want to make sure I understand your point clearly. Since the thread is about turf fields, does your objection that that these “extravagant” facilities represent a mis-allocation of resources extend to modern facilities that have natural grass, as well?

  7. I legitimately just wanted to keep a rolling total of who has and doesn't have turf. We are approaching 50% of the whole state that has turf. I didn't really see any need to have a debate on improving the lives of our youth.

  8. Topic on turf football fields (legit topic) --> Student-athlete safety debate (legit topic) --> School funding debate (beginning to veer off-course) --> Covid/Vaccination debate (Why????) --> Political debate (Why again???)... When did this forum become Twitter?

  9. No, do you? What exactly is your college degree in, Irishman? Wow, who is claiming to have the psychology degree now, I wonder? I have never stated that I just expect everyone to "follow along with my thinking". I like to believe I provide an alternative viewpoint on this forum, a forum that sorry, can frequently devolve into an echo chamber. And I welcome a challenge to my alternative viewpoints, Irishman. Yet I wonder if you really welcome challenges to yours? Challenge accepted. And nice to know you view most alternative opinions, especially those that challenge your leftist sensibilities, as automatically "stupid". It's none of my real business as well, meaning I can't force them to change what they have already decided. But I can voice my opinions on those choices in the hope it may sway future decisions. In exchange for a significant initial financial outlay and a statistical increase in the chance of injury versus a grass field. This as opposed to having deal with a little mud/dirt. Boo Hoo.

  10. Yes Irishman, you are angry. It comes out when you use words like "stupidity" and "fake libertarian" in your missives attacking my point of view. Not a lie, my perception based on some local data, that is all. Agreed, I have no issue with local communities getting to choose how to spend their tax dollars. I do however have issues with exactly what they choose to spend it on, and will voice my opinion as such. Sorry that you place such unadulterated faith in the government school edifice and your public sector union. I however, am not so naive and trusting regarding government institutions.

  11. Brownstown Central grad Derek Thompson has been very good for Franklin. 39 carries 295 yards and 3TDs through 2 games. Last game he had runs of 75, 67, and 43. Derek played QB for us his SR year and ran for 1480 yards in 10 games. Very proud of him.

  12. https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-9366411/Washington-Post-issues-correction-report-Trump-call-Georgia-elections-investigator.html The Washington Post has been slammed after it admitted it misquoted Donald Trump in his call to a Georgia elections investigator and issued a correction to its January story. The Post issued a lengthy correction on Monday after audio of the December call between the then president and Frances Watson was released. At the time, the outlet published a bombshell report claiming Trump urged Watson to 'find the fraud' and told her she would be 'a national hero' if she did. The Post has now said they misquoted him after the Georgia Secretary of State's Office released the December 23 recording. It was located it in a trash folder on the investigator's device as the office responded to a public records request, a source told CNN. The original Post story now has a prominent correction, reading: 'The recording revealed that The Post misquoted Trump's comments on the call, based on information provided by a source. 'Trump did not tell the investigator to "find the fraud" or say she would be "a national hero" if she did so. Instead, Trump urged the investigator to scrutinize ballots in Fulton County, Ga., asserting she would find "dishonesty" there. He also told her that she had "the most important job in the country right now."' So a trusted media source actually believed made up Trump quotes? Only now that the actual recording was found in a trash folder on someone's computer......

  13. Your public section union buddies must be different than the teachers I know. Such anger over a simple suggestion, that turf fields are an EXTRAVAGENCE when you are talking about games played by children. Full stop. #truth.

  15. If that is the case, then why not just abolish congressional districts and elect Congressmen in a State at-large by party?
    1 point
  16. Call me that skeptical reader. Because a U.S. Congressman no longer really representative his constituents, he represents voting power for his side of the uni-party and special interests. Precious votes that the uni-party wants to hold on to at all costs. If one side of the uni-party coin would really follow through on this section of the 14th amendment and actually strip a state of some it representative you can bet dollars to donuts when the other side other uni-party comes back into power the exact same tit-for-tat would then be attempted.

  17. Maybe it is because the offense is allowed to have so many people running downfield - lineman included - the DB's can't decipher who is in fact running a pass route and who is blocking for a run play, so just grab them all and let the officials sort it out !!

  18. My guess is you know nothing about the dynamics of where coach has worked or the kid's lives he has changed. This comment was a total D!ck move. Congrats. So you think exposure events are a waste of time, that's fair, but the comment above was clearly intended to throw unnecessary shade at a good dude.

  20. I disagree, I’ve long felt HS has OT figured out. It’s beautifully simple, fair, and equitable for both teams.

  21. You are welcome to take the test and give it a try yourself. Failing that, perhaps you could enlighten us all as to the “right” way to call - or not call - pass interference

  22. No way PI should be a spot foul. It’s the second worst called penalty behind only illegal man downfield. Officials don’t know how to call it correctly and penalize the DB and never the WR. They bail out the WR way too often and you can’t make it even more punitive. These bad PI calls have changed games.

  24. No bad experiences...in your ad you mention "college coaches in attendance" you are competing with several other "showcases" in Indy, Fort Wayne, Terre Haute to name a few. I wish you good luck getting those college coaches to attend. A few weeks ago we attended a combine in Indy because getting verified times/measurements is necessary, and way more important than getting a T shirt and then running around in shorts. I can tell you U Indy coaches were there and a few Marian...thats it. Those coaches are compiling a target recruiting list as we speak, but typically won't offer until during or after a kids senior year IF the kid can obviously play at the level. The dead period ends May 31....I hope and assume colleges are planning to have some camps in June as they have always done pre covid 19. Take ISU.....for 25.00 bucks you get combine numbers, drills, competition and you meet the coaches.

  26. I would not allow offensive players to stiff arm defensive players in the head. If face masking is a violation for the defense because the 'strike' of the hand to the head isnt safe, then there's no way on earth a running back stiff arming a defender above the neck or punching him open-handed in the mask is safe. This is one of those archaic rules of football that should have been changed long time ago. Ripping the other guys helmet off used to be legal, too. 🙁

  29. No anger...just emphasizing the lie you posted, and pointing out the stupidity of your post. Local communities spending their tax dollars as they see fit.....non issue.

  30. Why not just reduce the overall size, scope, and power of the federal government back to the constitutional mandate envisioned by the founding fathers? This would greatly reduce the power and corruption surrounding the elected body and they could go back to serving their constituents instead of their political party.

  31. That is a COMPLETE lie...NO ONE said they should be at the front of the line...what a stupid comment. Being prioritized does NOT equate to the front of the line. Also, the funding for the vaccine and funding for school projects are COMPLETELY different things. Now; enough with the asinine false equivalencies; back to the topic at hand. Way to hijack it though. Heaven forbid a local community decide something to upgrade their facilities AND maximize their usage, only to have some fake libertarian complaining about those local decisions.

  32. And I say it is the case. For those children over 16 and the long struggling teachers who have been complaining incessantly that they should be a the current front of the vaccine line.

  33. A lot of kids could be covid-19 vaccinated for what it cost to build these extravagant high school turf fields. It's just a game played by children.
