  1. St. Matthew’s Elementary and Jr. High School 2005-2007 NFL players Zack Martin (likely Hall of Fame), Nick Martin and Ted Karras….and some number of All-State, All-American and college players at all levels (not all in football) from a school with roughly 20 males per class. Yet somehow unable to win a CYO city championship in Indianapolis ….and people wonder why Central Indiana dominates. Okay…breaking the rules…not that I’ve seen them.

  4. Along the lines of your perception is everything comment, is FC or Seymour, at the the time either have hired a HC in the last 20 years been that good of a job? Neither school had really challenged East for the conference, both schools smallish schools in a big pond, particularly when there were just five classes. Granted, perceptions and things have changed a little since Moore and Bragg were hired. Some other random thoughts: I don’t believe jobs attract the applicants they used to. When a position opens up, at least in the AD’s I talk to, it’s mainly a bunch of young assistants you’ve never heard of. Why not hire within? Why not take a chance on a guy who’s been busting his ass for you already? I will give Moore some props, outsider looking in, being a young coach, he brought some guys out of retirement who really seem to be reenergized. I think that’s awesome, these guys still have a lot to offer, particularly a young coach learning how to be a HC.

  7. Does that mean the MIC and Center Grove are culturally aligned when the Varsity football teams aren't playing each other?

  8. I didn't suggest anything. Not my sandbox, there are folks here who take care of things like that. But it's extremely obvious you're not from Andrean.

  11. Penn was better in 2000 but Matt Kaler being out was a big detriment to the CG run attack and made them much easier to defend. The classic Penn teams had high level defenses.

  12. So, the drama just applies to just varsity level football? Because from what I see all remaining MIC schools with the exception of North Central are Playing Center Grove's JV and Freshmen teams in Football.

  13. Watched that Westfield-Merrillville game on the wonderful whmb broadcast. Westfield clearly was better. Figured they would be tougher match for CG than year prior when got plowed over.

  16. I concur completely with your thoughts. Carroll reminded me a little of CG's first ever state title appearance against Penn. Penn was clearly the better team and showed it that day. But CG was on the cusp of building something great, which took more years in the very competitive MIC and Indy area. Carroll looked impressive and one could tell they are building their program the right way. I believe they are on the cusp. With Westfield, Carmel, HSE, Fishers, and programs like Penn will be back up there...I believe competition in the north will get stiffer. I am glad to see CG and Carroll agreeing on a 4 year series (I believe its 4 years) starting in 2024. This will be a benefit to both programs.

  18. Honestly surprised they put Reitz ahead of Roncalli and New Pal, although I do think that is what they are capable of. But nice to see SW IN getting respect early on.

  20. Interestingly enough, over the last 10 years Memorial and Mater Dei have each accumulated 15 Success Factor points. MD all in 2A and Memorial with 8 in 3A (2014-17) and 7 in 4A (2018-22). Head to head in that time the record is 6 W Blue, 4 W Red.

  21. I have another thing to add... and that is that I know in Linton and for other men kids from small school football programs, it is a HUGE honor to be selected to play in all-star games... especially with a state north-south game. These kids are held in high regard for such an honor and the town they represent are extremely proud.... none of these guys is going Div 1 or heading to the NFL... so it truly is a big moment to take the field with fellow players from across indiana. I don't want to see these events disappear.

  22. Having to play seven conference games and Seymour (gate) kinda limits their options.

  23. My gut tells me you have East Central too low, but I don't know enough about the MIC/HCC teams to see how they would stack up. It's always dangerous to play the transitive wins game, but we should have a decent comparison after week 4, since Moeller starts out with Ben Davis, Dwenger, East Central, and Center Grove.
