Heritage Hills QB/DB Cole Sigler had one of those games against NP that you just don't see come around very often. The senior had a 42 yard punt return for a TD in the 2nd quarter. He returned the 2nd-half kick-off 97 yards for a score. On the 1st play of HH's next series, he took one 77 yards to the house. And then, on NP's next play from scrimmage, Sigler intercepted a tipped pass and returned it 55 yards for a touchdown. That's 4 TD's in 4 different ways. The only thing missing was a passing TD (or I guess a receiving TD if you want to get picky about it). Unofficially, we had Sigler with 120 rushing yards on 6 carries. We had him 6-12 passing for 54 yards and his first INT of the season. (BTW, that was a really nice play by Lowe for NP on that pick. The ball was probably a bit underthrown, but it was still a heckuva play. And I like the Bender kid. The NP coaches think the soph lefty has a bright future and I can see why.)

I was fortunate enough to play on some of Benton Centrals best teams from ‘00-‘04. I know I’m not alone when I say the memories I made with my teammates will stick with me for the rest of my life. We all get caught up in the “my team is better” hoopla, but we are all here for ONE reason... The love of this game! May the best teams win come Thanksgiving weekend, and this years players make the memories that we all have.

Probably not. But I’m sure the referee saw the players on the field before anyone from either team had touched the blocked ball. I watched Avon win a game about 20 years ago vs Zionsville when they picked up their own blocked FG and ran it in for a TD.

Sure, they got blasted by Homestead and Carroll. But those two programs would do that 90% of the teams in this state. The Bruins win over Concordia was an eye opener to me. The Cadets have a pretty good football team...................we'll find out how good once the 3a tournament gets here. Did Northrop turn the corner? They have a good coaching staff, and in my opinion, it's just a matter of time. Anyway, good win for the Bruins last night.

South has shown that when they limit their mistakes they can be a pretty hard team to beat. No turnovers and just two penalties for 10 yards last night. The change to D. J. Bull at QB seemed to really spark the team, and they finally started taking advantage of Meeks' size which dwarfs most DBs.

WWFan thanks for the “eyes” last night. Wish I could have witnessed that one. ( I wouldn’t wish this “bug” on my worst enemy) Hopefully we can continue this “one game at a time” march thru the schedule. It’s good to see the team respond to adversity, seems a different guy steps up each week. Go Senators!

I have a lot of respect for South Adams. Pound for pound one of the best teams in the state this year. But the 1A school wouldn't have a morsel of a chance against 6A Homestead.

CI looks up for grabs. Bhss with the biggest win in ci for week5 . Still need to see more consistency from south Panthers before I'll pick them down the stretch. Any updates on southports injuries ?

I don't want to hear that garbage that they only play teams in their own conference. How many teams that rose above Homestead played an in conference game? At least I can finally say I'm smarter than a computer.

The interception at the end of the first half was a huge play! Also a holding penalty on a late game drive hurt the Irish. These are things that can be cleaned up in the future. Yes, the Irish are young but there's enough talent to make a deep run in the playoffs. We have to remember this is high school football and not the NFL. These are young men learning to how to play the game and learning how to win. You really can't fault the effort and effort is big at the high school level, imo. Also the Irish have as much speed as they've had in many years, and speed can help you win a lot of games (just see last week's game). The St. X fans I talked to on the way out of the stadium were really impressed with the Irish. Overall it was a fun night of football, but it'll be good to be playing the rest of the regular season closer to home. We've had enough of Cincinnati!

Hard for me to take too much away from the game. Southport was down 3 players but Chatard seemed really, really flat. A workman-like performance. For all the talk here, I still think the team to beat is West Lafayette. Loaded with talent and can score In bunches. Chatard is very good.....but they were very good last year as well. The defending champs are still the team to beat.....until they aren’t. Which might not be until next year. Guess we’ll see in just a handful of weeks.

Tough to question coaching/playcalling when you rack up nearly 600 yards of total offense but man there was some puzzling decisions last night. Cathedral had the ball inside the X 5 yard line near the end of the first half up 7 and threw a terrible INT or otherwise could have really blown the game open. Cathedral came out quick in the 2H and pushed the lead up to 14 but X responded very quickly and tied the game. From there, it felt like Cathedral panicked and tried to hit the home run ball on every play instead of what was working earlier. Have to credit X though in a game like this. They got punched in the mouth early and never flinched. That’s a sign of a well-coached, good football team.

Well- you don’t exactly have a barn burner of a sectional, so that shouldn’t hurt matters. Whatever the IHSSA was drinking when they aligned 30,31,and 32, think I’d like to have some.

My best guess would be a young team learning each week. I believe they only had 3 returning starters on Offense.

The offense is very good. Tons of passing. The QB was deadly accurate when receivers were running verticals in one-on-one coverage. The defense isn't very good though. However, Madison made tons of mistakes tonight. Four interceptions and two lost fumbles by Madison. I'm pretty sure they had about a dozen fumbles total in this game as the center was doing a terrible job of snapping to the QB in shotgun formation. Jennings County tends to wear down in the second half due to all of their two-way players but Madison was basically giving them the ball with great field position in the second half with all of the turnovers. The momentum in this game shifted big time midway through the 3rd quarter. JC led 35-27 and Madison drove down the field to get themselves a 1st and goal from the 9. The Cubs went with a 5-wide formation. Madison had been killing JC with QB keepers that drive and there was an opportunity for big yards on the play had the QB taken it himself. However, he threw the ball into the endzone while backing up from one JC DL and the ball floated into the arms of a JC DB for the INT. JC drove down the field and scored to go up two scores and the wheels completely fell off for Madison afterwards. The route was on.

Ben Davis played a good game. That's for sure. Warren didn't play well and I heard weren't great in practice this week. So BD took advantage of that. That's all I'm going to say about that. If I say how I really feel, I'll be kicked into oblivion on here. If you think it's okay to decide a game on something EVERY team does, than that's on you.

Sounds like Warren didn’t exactly help themselves either.

NA has lost several players to St. X/Trinity in Louisville. It's been a big problem at NA, and Jeffersonville too for many years. Now, I know that some of this is NA's fault. The lack of coaching consistency and staff have certainly contributed to the problem. For many years the NA administration didn't really fight transfers much......there is only so much you can do in any case. NA has a fairly talented group of sophomores playing varsity right now....the question will be can they hold on to all these guys? Part of this is also on the state of kentucky (lower case k is intentional 😉), who turn a blind eye to this stuff. My understanding is Trinity (the worst offender), has players on the varsity from 5 counties in Ky and 2 from IN. Imagine if NA could have kept these players....all from NA. Duece Finch- went to ST. X, then played RB for Boston College. Nate Combs- went to St. X, then played LB and was a Captain for Army. Jarius Brents- many schools in Louisville area. Was a KY state champion in track. Signed to play DB at Louisville, but was dismissed from team. Rondale Moore- played 2 years at NA, then transferred to Trinity, now at Purdue and a star. Stephon Herron- played at NA as a freshman, transferred to Trinity, now is a Freshman OLB at Stanford. Finch and Combs would have been at NA at the same time. Brents, Moore and Herron would have been teammates as well. It's a sad state of affairs, but there it is.

I don’t recall having Alexandria down anywhere. You’re correct, this is a great class and a good team. I just don’t think third place in the conference is anything to be bragging about. The Tigers shouldn’t be happy with football until they win some sort of title. I mean really, why can’t the football team experience success like the baseball team? It is a mind set, that starts with the coaches and players. Never settle for third place. Don’t get me wrong, I’m rooting for the Tigers! It’s just not going to happen this year. I’m going to take a stab in the dark and say that you are the qb’s dad. Right?
