I admit to being a “die hard old timer” but the days when Bobby Knight might show up at an Indiana HS gym and the surrounding communities talk about it for generations are long, long gone......and never coming back. The magic is gone. I hate to break the, now decades old, news but HS basketball and IU basketball are empty husks of what they were. The last time I went to a HS game those in attendance were parents, a handful of students and a bunch of football players who had earlier been lifting down in the weight room.2 points

I know of one officiating crew at a Northwest Indiana game that had a female ref. We need more, so we better start getting them from wherever we can find them.2 points

Wow I didn't now Big Papi coached football in Indiana. In all seriousness Congrats to Coach Ortiz.2 points

The corporations boundaries are ridiculous in 2021. I have pushed this issue for some time, but North is not the only school that is benefiting from players being bussed out of the Bosse district.2 points

In a perfect world, advancement would depend on proficiency, and nothing else. But until we get there, other factors have to be taken into account, like historical barriers that exist without regard to ability. We need officials. Women are an untapped resource. Advancing women -with ability - on a faster track than their male counterparts is a recruiting tool, and justified on that basis alone. The tricky part is balancing that fast track with not putting people in over their heads, setting them up for failure.2 points

That’s not entirely true. He led the league in interceptions ... three times.1 point

Good point. We saw what happened when Tippecanoe County tried to rub elbows with the Hoosier Crossroads Conference and I do think Kokomo, Lebanon, and Logansport have more in common with Lafayette than Fishers and Westfield do.1 point

We have some great people that does our broadcasts who are all local and alumni of Triton. As the guy who sends all of the film off, I always try to make sure that you get at least halfway decent film and make sure my people are going to do a decent job. One of things that bugs me as a coach when I am trying to watch is when teams send the lower quality film using the iPad instead and they do not pan in just the slightest bit so it looks like little specs. I get it though, some teams have great fields, but that is ultimately not what I am looking for.1 point

I think the plan was to turn North into McCutchanville / Cambridge / Oak Meadow high school. But then they realized their sports would be better off if they kept some of the Evans kids around. North's district shouldn't come south of Diamond or cross 41. I understand that didn't make sense with the old building's location.1 point

Having pockets of basketball tradition or small schools that only play basketball hardly makes this a basketball state. The perception of those outside the state may have shifted by now if it wasn't for the movie "Hoosiers". The fading memories of Knight and Keady mostly just live on in the minds of die hard old timers. Also, the memory of packed little Gyms, in any town with more than 500 people as the main social even in the community, is long gone. Such is progress.1 point

The retooled NCC that is being described in here would not help those programs. There are certain pieces that can get them their, but not with the likes of Logansport ( and that's no shot a Johnson).1 point

Didn't the NCC pretty much purge New Castle or am I not remembering that correctly?1 point

Yeah, I stopped posting. My point was made. I think many agree with me. Sorry for contributing to the hijacking.1 point

I can’t speak to the relative academic strength between NAIA vs. NCAA....not something I know much about or would dare speculate on. That said, I think (solely an opinion from my observations) the whole comparison between Division I (FCS), Division II, Division III and NAIA is relative to the sport (and maybe geography). As regards college football in Indiana, my sense is that outside of DI Notre Dame, IU, Purdue and Ball State the next best teams would be NAIA Marian and St. Francis. I realize it’s anecdotal but last time NAIA Marian played DII UIndy (2017) it was a mauling by Marian....no comparison....Men v Boys (at least from my perspective watching the game). As to how that comparison holds up nationally, I couldn’t begin to tell you. But if you go to a completely different sport like lacrosse nationally, the best college programs in order would be found in DI, DIII (yes, DIII....the top 10-15 DIII lacrosse schools are competitive with most any DI school), DII followed by NAIA. I’m not even sure there is DI (FCS) but there is club lacrosse at schools like Purdue and IU but they don’t really rate in comparison. As an example, some years ago, defending DIII Champion Salisbury defeated preseason No. 1 ranked DI Duke in a scrimmage....DII is catching up, though (UIndy is swiftly building a nice DII program). Pretty certain @Impartial_Observer probably has some...errr.....”observations” on all of this he might share.1 point

There are also tremendous opportunities for advancement for women, potentially a faster track than their male counterparts, as officiating gets more diverse. It’s not so much how you get the opportunity. It’s what you do with it.1 point

All 3 Lafayette schools should leave in my opinion... where to I’m not sure. The travel for them isn’t necessarily a staying point. A few of the schools are much further than Indy schools. Marion 1 and 1/2 hours, Richmond 2 hours, Muncie 2 hours, Kokomo 1 hour, Anderson 1 and 1/2 hours from Lafayette1 point

I was never offered the position. I was asked to be on the interview committee and I declined. My exact quote was "You guys did a pretty good job last time around. Find us another Dave Sharpe!"1 point
