I don't know what everyone else thinks but if anyone coaches or has kids playing at the JV level, it would be cool to post them here throughout the season. I'll try to do so for Jennings County.

Unfortunately going to be a quick prediction post for tonight. SB Adams at Northridge - Last season's postseason run to a State Championship appearance is fully in the review mirror at kickoff tonight. Losing Gott is a tough gut punch for the Raiders, but I fully anticipate their defense to be what keeps them in games early this season. Adams is breaking in a new coach on short notice, so I am expecting the home team to when a defensive slugfest (perhaps because neither offense will be up and ready week 1)... Northridge by 12 Elkhart at Concord - Quite a bit of excitement for this one it seems, especially on the Elkhart side of things. I think the Lions will be a solid squad this year, but first game under a new coach at the Jake... maybe it's my NLC-tinted glasses, but I'll take the Minutemen at home... Concord by 3 Fairfield at Goshen - While the Falcons have been a solid team the last 3 seasons, I am putting high hopes into Coach Wogomon at his alma mater this season. The Redhawks have won 5 of 6 in this series, and I do not see them dropping this one at home... Goshen by 13 Michigan City at Warsaw - The Wolves have owned this series so far, but lost a bit to graduation. The Tigers return their QB and HB, 2 keys to the Bart Ball offense. This game will be determined in the trenches, where the Tigers are young. Again, maybe wishful thinking... Warsaw by 6 Mishawaka at Marian - Backyard Brawl will be featured on Channel 46 tonight and tomorrow morning. The Knights are always a solid program, but the Cavemen have owned this matchup historically. I think the younger Fisher's experience from last year will serve him and their offense well... Mishawaka by 16 NorthWood at Jimtown - Not really sure what to expect from the Jimmies this season. After only scoring 6 points combined in weeks 1 & 2 last year (against NorthWood and Concord), their offense exploded on their way to an NIC Division championship. But the Panthers are my surprise pick to win the NLC this year... NorthWood by 8 Plymouth at East Noble - According to some other threads, the Knights lost quite a bit from graduation. However, they could probably run their C team out against the Rockies and threaten a victory. Not expecting much in Blueberry town this season... East Noble by 21 Wawasee at Tippecanoe Valley - The Vikings also lost some studs from last season's undefeated regular season team. I like that this game has been put on the schedule for both programs, and I expect this game to be a little closer than last year's blow out. Still not convinced on much about the Warriors for this season though... Tippecanoe Valley by 14

Hobart is #30 with 649-323-16, which is .6650. The #1 team is Fort Wayne Snider. They are 503-143-3, which is a .7773 win percentage. Thanks and let me know if you have any follow-up questions! You could have a good argument there, but it's really hard to say since those conferences, from top to bottom, have the largest enrollment schools.

I did this last year for most weeks and it seemed to generate some good discussion so I've decided to bring it back for this season. I know some people frowned upon the idea of creating fake point spreads for high school games, but I truly don't see the harm in it and think it gets people excited about games. For those who aren't familiar with spreads, I will provide an example: Indiana at Purdue(-10). This is saying that Purdue would be favored by 10 points. It could also be written as Indiana(+10) at Purdue. If Purdue were to win by more than 10 points, they would "cover". If Indiana loses by less than 10 or wins outright, they would cover. If Purdue wins by exactly 10, it would be called a "push". "PK" is slang for "pick 'em, meaning there is no point spread and the teams are considered to have an equal chance of winning. Feel free to let me know what you think about some of these spreads or drop your picks for some of the games. It's week 1 so bear with me, a lot of these teams I do not have much info on besides how they did last season. There are tons of great games this week so some are going to get left out. This is just for fun, any input is appreciated. Why? Because in the Hoosier Heritage or 4A playoffs they didn't face a single O-Line that was as big and strong as Noblesville? IMO, IF Mt. Vernon wins tonight it'll be because Noblesville's D didn't step up. I don't see the Millers having any trouble moving the ball.

My humble opinion on this topic: Alternate days will have to be the norm until the current trend in declining officials population is resolved. Also, "patchwork" crews aren't necessarily sub-par. The Central Officials Assn in Illinois used to assign HS game to officials by position. That organization produced some of the most skilled officials in the nation: Bill Lemonnier, Dan Capron, Jerry Markbreit, Bob (Bobref) Parker - to name just a few. The only reason they started organizing crews is that only crews advance at playoff time in most states and Illinois is no exception. Still though, the current football administration's efforts led by Robert Faulkins could be a good start. Standardized education for all officials seems to be working pretty well lately.The football mechanics manual "Football Officials' Crew 5-person Mechanics and Best Practices" is a living document and is helping to ensure evenly officiated contests. Also as grizzled veterans, we need to help recruit new people. We can help inspire young men and women to become as passionate about the sport as we all are. Maybe stop in on Saturdays & Sundays at pee-wee sites to see who might be an interesting candidate for our avocation. Coaches, dads, high school kids. Let's try to get 'em all involved. It won't happen overnight, but if we can convice the schedulers to use alternate days and bring in one new official each, this can turn around in a few years.

As I stated, CG I believe had seven last year and was a top ten team nationally by most outlets…betting a handful/half dozen of Indiana teams have matched that particular accomplishment. 90 BD? 06 Warren? 17 BD? 18 Warren? For a 5A program to have 9, it’d be nearly unheard of. But that never stops Cody and his hyperbole.

I’ve seen a number of Indy area teams in the past few seasons, as well as those from other areas of the state. I’m not ready to say the coaching is “better,” because there are so many things that go into that. I don’t see how the players develop. I’m not in their weight rooms or at their summer programs. In-game situations are hard to evaluate because they are so random. What I do see, however, is that teams from Indy and the collar counties have a different “look” about them. Their pregame warmup is crisp and organized. Their sidelines are managed very efficiently during games. They don’t commit stupid or careless penalties. They don’t line up in the wrong place. They play great situational football. They just seem better organized and disciplined. Their play reflects that. Whether that falls under the heading of “better coaching,” than so be it.

I expect Heritage to have a winning season and fully anticipate that they will win handily against Bellmont.

We ALWAYS give the observer....in addition to coaches and media our crew information card. I do NOT however have our "picture" on it... Nor do I provide our future open dates.... Some crews also do this. We also give each coach the HUDL information on a separate card to send us the video of the contest. These cards are LAMINATED! There seems to be a lot of "sweat" that happens which needs to be aware of with coaches. 😂
