Addressed this in another thread, but there are many teams that do this self-damaging technique of abandoning what's working during a game. In some cases, it comes from nothing more than being creatures of habit. The game plan says pass and, despite the fact that the running game seems to be working well, we're going to stick with the plan and throw the ball because the plan says to throw the ball anytime we get close to midfield. Sometimes it's just wanting to rub someone's nose in it and the quickest way is often going to the air. Sometimes it's trying to end the game early or at least take the other team's fight out of them. To some extent, that can be understandable as, if you can get the opponent in the locker room at half arguing about who's sitting next to the window, then the second half is a lot easier. Sometimes it's impatience and worry from the leading team that they might be the victims of a quick strike and all of a sudden be in a dogfight. Loved watching Harrison last night take what worked and forcing the other team out of their zone. Harrison went into the half with a last second field goal to be up 25-13 and getting the ball to start the second half. By the time they got to the end of the first half, it was clear that they were able to ground and pound as well as exploit the edges. They came out at the half and drove the ball 85+ yards with the vast majority on the ground and ate up the first 5 minutes of the second half. Rather than going for the coup de grace and a quick score, they stuck with what was working and what worked perfectly against Plainfield's offense ... keeping them off of the field and forcing them into a situation of having to go to the air a lot. With Plainfield's 87.5 QB rating for the season and an average of one passing TD a game, Harrison's stuck with the running game that was working for them and, more importantly, just strangled the clock. They then took the ball from Plainfield and, on their second possession of the half, killed the entire rest of the 3rd quarter on the ground and ate another three minutes on top of that in the 4th and put up another score. Wasn't sure if the wind sound was the rain coming in or the air going out of Plainfield, but in just two possessions, and by the time Plainfield touched the ball for the second time that half, there were only 8 1/2 minutes left in that game and Harrison now had a 39-13 lead. The rain then came in and made it even more problematic for Plainfield as they just weren't built to come from behind, especially with a passing game, and Harrison did a great job of not helping them at all by sticking with what was working.

I haven't seen that side of the stands that full since it was the home side. Not sure what happened with our crowd. It was decent, but it was down from even the Homecoming game. I don't know. I was wrong. Not the first time. I'm making it a habit around here. At least I admit it though...others don't.

Ok, here's what I don't understand regarding the angst that this game was in the first round. It was going to occur next week, anyway.

First and foremost, shame on the IHSAA for allowing a system to pit the two best teams in the state in the first round. Imagine if the NFL and NCAA announced that they are implementing a ping pong ball system. Sounds pretty absurd, right? I guess its only okay for a state like Indiana that's really not expected lead the way when it comes to football. But one things for certain............Indiana (IHSAA) will do it their way, no outside input allowed. And don't ask a coach for their opinion, all you're going to hear is "coach speak." Devastating for the coaches and players. From a fans point of view, watching your team, the best team in the state, totally dominate the second best team in the state for three quarters then watch it all fall apart. Football can be cruel. A big shout out to Brownsburg though. Kudos for putting together the best team in the state this year, I guess you can hang your hat on that.

Had one like this last year in the Harrison-Kokomo game, except it was a crossfield kick. Harrison kicker lined up on right hash, kicked the ball all the way, sky-kick fashion, to opponent's 45 or so on the opposite side of the field about 2-3 yards from the sideline. Perfect kick ... right into the arms of Harrison's gunner. Everyone in the stands went nuts thinking it was Harrison's ball on a perfectly executed crossfield kick ... I just shook my head because I knew what was coming. Not only was it Kokomo's ball, but with the additional 15 yard penalty tacked on since the gunner caught it in the air before it touched the receiving team or the ground. It was a shame because it really did look well-executed except for that little nugget on kickoffs with the sky-kick component.

Congrats on the win...great game and grit by Ben Davis to come back! Zachary is who I thought he is. But, C'mon man, you can't break out the "Tell Me" meme for that crowd. De Facto Sectional Championship with 2 of the top teams in the Midwest that are neighboring school districts in a beautifully renovated statdium and Ben Davis drew at most 40% (being generous) of their home stands. I'm really hoping we get to see a Ben Davis vs. Center Grove matchup.

Not much noise around this Pitt game. I just hope the Irish are ready. I think the bye week was good for preparation. At least I hope so.

I watched some of this game, Warsaw dominated the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball. Games are usually won in the trenches

Snider was up 41-0 last night against Anderson midway thru the 2nd quarter and pulled everyone. It was men vs boys when the starters were in. If Snider gets to state, they will have earned it with trips to Mishawaka and likely Valpo or Merrillville

What a difference a night makes. Last week, LCC's odds placed them 2nd in Sectional 34, just to get out of the sectional. After last night, they've jumped to the "favorite" from 2A North to spend Thanksgiving weekend in downtown Indy in Harrell's Tournament Chances. They'll face off next week for the Sectional Championship against Seeger who they beat in the initial game of the season 35-8.

Great win fir Warsaw over Carroll, but beating Penn at Penn will prove to be too much of a task

This type of play is a favorite on officiating quizzes, although the play situation usually has the receiver going airborne in the end zone, catching the ball, and then he is driven back into the field of play and goes to the ground at the 2 yd. line. That’s a TD because the furthest point of the ball at the time of the contact was in the end zone. Same thing here. What game was this?

He is back, but only for punting duties, although he had a 1 play cameo tonight against Jasper. He threw it from his left hand for a 50 yard gain to step up the game winning FG.

Penn saw a small portion of "Bart Ball" earlier this season when they played Mishawaka. It may not be 100% Bart Ball, but it isn't that far off. Penn beat Mishawaka 28-7 and Mishawaka beat Warsaw 34-11. All teams have improved (ish) over the season. I'm gonna go Penn 21 Warsaw 20 in this one.

Much respect to the Guerin Eagles tonight. Even though they ended up on the wrong side (for them) of a 21-10 score they fought hard and played with a lot of toughness and heart. They lack any big play ability and that was the difference. That and Chatard’s special teams were abysmal. Punt snap went over the punters head and he fell on the ball at the 5. The defense forced a turnover on downs. The offense went nowhere. Their punt from the endzone was blocked and recovered at the 3. BCHS should have taken the safety. Hopefully it was a lesson learned. Guerin was able to punch it in for the 7-0 lead. Later in the half a high snap on a field goal resulted in a miss for the Trojans and after Chatard forced a three and out to start the second half Chatard dropped the punt which Guerin recovered. In between that mess there were two 50 yard TD passes by Chatard. A field goal cut the lead to 14-10 but Chatard took the ensuing kickoff (which went out of bounds) and drove down the field scoring on a 4th down pass. A late interception by Chatard ended the game with just a few minutes on the clock. I thought Guerin’s front seven defensively were very stout. Going cover zero burned them on one of the long TD’s but they only gave up one long run and a few 10-15 yarders. Motly the LOS was a stalemate both ways. Not having their best receiver was a clear disadvantage for them. They might have been the second best team that Chatard has played so far this year. Losing is never easy but those boys should not hang their heads.

October Brownsburg strikes again… Running back has carried the ball 22 times for nearly 170 yards and you have an 18 point lead with 9:12 to go… So you throw the ball in the direction of Mark Zackery and he walks into the end zone. Absolute coaching malpractice. Gotkowski showed balls.

Yeah, I see that he is also their #1 rusher and has over 3,000 total yards this season. We definitely need to keep an eye on that guy!
