  1. Former Columbus North Head Football Coach Bill McCaa passed away last week. I wanted to share a note for all the coaches out there. "God's Speed Bill McCaa... Thank you very much for your kindness, patience, teaching and leading by example. All when it matters a lot; In High School. Signed- A kid who didn't play football." For all those kids we work with on the practice field and weight room, We coaches have the opportunity to coach a lot more kids in the classrooms and in the game of life. Coach McCaa got it. He reached so many kids as a teacher, coach, and later principal. My staple saying... "It is not what you do in life that counts, it's who you meet along the way that really matters. My life is better because of Coach McCaa. My challenge to my fellow coaches is to "Coach them All!" be it on the field or in the classroom and most importantly in life!

  2. Because football is king in SWI....we work together to elevate the play in our region. Successful football is driven by volunteerism. Starting when kids are very young, if you don't have a strong volunteer population you are destined to fail. Volunteers are proud of their efforts and like to talk about it. GID has provided SWI volunteers a place to do that. If volunteerism is weak in a region (and yes this has strong socioeconomic ties), you won't be as successful and you won't have as much talk (online or otherwise).

  3. Does anyone think it’s odd that the season’s most valuable player is decided before the season’s most important games are played?

  4. Congratulations to Notre Dame alum Bryant Young on his election to the Pro Football Hall of Fame. His election gives ND 14 players in the Hall, breaking a tie with USC for most by any university.

  6. Especially if there was a cash bar! If not, there's always the KOC fish frys in the upcoming Lenten season to expand the stipend fund. Lord, I apologize for that there.

  8. Probably the MOST (a) accurate, (b) "on point" and (c) humorous post EVER on the GID. A TRIFECTA. Thank you Stax.

  9. First, as to civility, its a grade school girlfriend's sleepover pillowfight these days on the GID as compared to 15-20 years ago. Seriously, are you simply delusional in your senior years or just hoping to pull the wool over the eyes of newbies? The knives were out those days. Some wounds have never quite healed. Second, didn't "kind, sweet and gentle giant" Tim send your sorry @ss packing? That's my recollection...at worst, his co-founders did so just after Tim's death. I don't really care what you say currently. I'm totally cool with that. People say a lot of crap and you are amongst the best. But don't rewrite the past and somehow make yourself out as a hero or respecting Tim and his cofounders. That's Bullsh!t and you know it.

  12. The North Daviess football team lost a great coach and mentor Sunday morning. Coach Bo O'Neil lost his battle with cancer. Bo was loved by all who knew him. Sad times indeed.

  13. No, I’m saying my original statement of 75% was pretty accurate.

  14. Had a game with Bowman last year early in the season. Weather was very warm. They came and played the entire game with only 13 players dressed. Played their hearts out. Coaches coached their tails off. Their fans cheered wonderfully for them. Never once felt sorry for themselves. Lost but competed so hard. I was very proud of those kids, coaches and family members.

  15. Yep. I asked him about it on Twitter and he never responded. However, there’s an IHSAA executive meeting next Friday so I’d expect a decision no later than that. Then again, who really even knows?

  16. My discussion is not about racial disparity with head coach hiring, but directed toward Brian Flores as a leader. As the Dolphins were improving over the past couple of years, I asked a good friend who is a big Fins fan if he was excited about the future. His response was he was concerned about what was going on internally. I wasn't sure what he meant, so I asked for specifics. He then told me that the rumor was that Flores was considered "toxic" within the organization. I wasn't sure what he meant, but I left it. This was a couple of months ago...definitely prior to his separation from the Dolphins. I then read this opinion....and it does have me scratching my head. Without getting into the alleged racism, is it possible that Flores needs to improve and mature as a leader? In other words, does he also need to look at himself internally and see where he can improve his leadership style? I am in no way shape or form trying to diminish a bigger issue....just thinking about Flores individually. Is there some potential that he rubs people the wrong way? Now, if they prove that Miami was tanking games deliberately, then there is zero doubt the owner and management team lacks ethics and should be dealt with harshly. Go tons of respect for you Yuccaguy....we fellow Lutherans have to stick together!! https://foxsportsradio.iheart.com/content/2022-02-10-doug-gottlieb-toxic-brian-flores-looks-unlikeable-after-lovie-smith-burn/ This is where Brian Flores DOESN’T GET IT, and didn’t get it when he got fired in Miami. I hear people all the time are like ‘Well, he’s a great coach’, no one is saying that he's not, but the ‘coaching’ is only a portion of being a head coach. You have to manage ‘up’ [with the front office] and manage ‘down’ [with the players], and he couldn’t manage up. The facts are different from the feelings, they just are, and here are the facts: the general manager in Miami, the assistant general manager, the director of player personnel – they are ALL Black men. They wanted him GONE. It was an ‘us’ or ‘him’, and the owner was like ‘I’m going to side with these guys.’ When I said Flores needed to be more contrite, anyone who has ever lost a job or lost an opportunity – at some point you just got to go ‘ya know, sometimes it actually IS me.’ It’s ME and the way I handled myself. He may have been misperceived, it’s totally reasonable to go like ‘ya know, I probably came across as a little brash, a little harsh, it was my first job, I had only been in New England, I only watched Bill Belichick and how he handled things…’ His story of the disconnect with non-Patriot people is the same story we saw in Detroit [Matt Patricia], the same story we’ve seen with Charlie Weis, the same story we saw with Eric Mangini; you go through all the Patriots’ assistants it’s all the same thing, and he’s the only one going ‘nah, it wasn’t me, it was them.’

  18. And who could forget Coach McCaa’s claim to fame????? He touched OJ Simpson. Godspeed Coach McCaa, and I will admit I flopped on that clip late in the game in 81 that brought back the long run.

  22. Vividly remember sometime around 2010-2011 (shortly after TA's passing), when DT tried to take over the site and make it pay for play subscription. Thought that was a total slap in the face to everything TA started and wished to continue. Was never a fan of DT's work before; multiplier, +1 bump, ad nauseum crap that still gets spewed every week here, but it completely turned me off. 6 screen names and 9 resignations/unretirements later....well, here we are.

  23. Condolences from Monrovia. Coach Fouts was a hardworking coach that took his job very seriously. It showed in his defense's preparation weekly. He was an asset to that team and I hope the program and community heal quickly from this huge loss. We have a lot of respect for Dan and his offering to this great game!

  28. You'd be mad too if transfered your daughter from Reitz and paid $8k in tuition to be part of a "championship run", only to come up short. I mean, that is the expection right....pay the $8k and get a trophy?

  29. Sean McVay, IMO, is the epitome of a "Bro Coach"... and he seems to be doing ok. 😉 That said, I struggle not to roll my eyes when he streaks down the sideline to celebrate with his players in the endzone. I'm more of a happy medium kinda guy, myself. You know, somewhere between the arms crossed perpetual scowl of Landry and the cartwheeling sideshow of McVay. 😁

  32. I don't see what any of this has to do with high school football. I guess the guy must live rent free in your head if you can't avoid commenting or sending ridicule his way on a high school football board. There are plenty of places on the internet for political commentary, parody, general scorn and ridicule, but this part of the forum shouldn't be it. Just my $0.02...and for the record, I'd say that about the last guy, too.

  33. “You don’t matter to us and we are going to prove it by making yet another thread 6 pages long telling you why.” A wise man once told me: “If you have haters it probably means you’re doing something right.” Geez people. Just keep scrolling if that’s honestly your take. YOU are the rocket fuel.

  36. I quit paying attention to him after his second retirement. Anyone advocating the contraction of HS Football programs clearly does not understand the point of a HS Football forum. I assure everyone, Roncalli will be fine. Coach Rosenberg will be fine, and the sun will most assuredly come up tomorrow.

  39. Muda, you can give me all the down votes you want....truly not much of a motivator for me. My comment wasn't directed toward any one person. Pretty much most comments. Jets vs The Sharks If that you "feel" my comment in a less than positive way, well sorry...nothing personal to you intended. Hopefully, we are all just bored without football.

  40. Heh…heh. Arguably likely not your first time, probably just the first time I noticed (and like so many of us - he ain’t what he used to be), but I consider fighting with Muda a certain Baptism here. I can just vaguely recall in those fictional “polite” days DT so pines for, Muda and I raging at each other over 5-6 threads…..which was NOTHING compared to all the other windmills Muda was constantly tilting against on the GID. These days, it’s hard for me to gather up an argument against this fellow sad old libertarian dinosaur as we both lounge and occasionally flop about in the warm tar pit…….Muda humorless as ever. Some things never change.
