  1. One of the things the Indiana Football Officials Association does to support its members in their never-ending effort to get better is produce and distribute a weekly training video. It has 10 or so video clips of plays from the preceding week’s games that illustrate mechanics issues, rules interpretations, and judgment calls. This video is distributed to the 700 or so members of the IFOA — most of the people you see wearing stripes on Friday nights. These weekly videos are an important part of our in-season training. The IFOA needs your help. On a given Friday night there are 150+ games. They produce a wealth of useful information for officials. The problem is finding those plays in that mountain of video. This is where you come in. If you had an unusual play in a game you saw, let us know about it by describing it on this thread. Let us know the game, the approximate point in the game when the play occurs, and a brief description. We’re interested in almost anything: onside kicks, pass interference, punt returns, goal line plays, big hits … the list goes on an on. Lots of people complain about officiating. Here’s your opportunity to do something about it. These videos help us to be better, more consistent. If you’re reluctant to mention a play openly, feel free to message me.

  2. I think the situation has stabilized a little but a revolving door in the AD’s office for several years hasn’t helped. BC faces similar issues to other single school counties. Granted huge tourism dollars, but no real industry that attracts people. Fair amount of vacation/summer homes most of the residents work in Columbus or Bloomington. BC has some history of success, but those days are a long ways in the rear view mirror.

  5. No JV game for WW. Springs Valley JV beats Mitchell JV 22-8. Good close game throughout. Turnovers and presnap penalties really killed mitchell. Valley first 2 TDs were off short fields from fumbles. #6 and #44 both were fun to watch and played good games. As for Valley they have 2 RBs who are a great 1-2 punch in Elijah Dickey and Brycen Cave. Valley seemingly have really good RBs all the way to 7th grade. Line played really well and defense did a good job of shooting the gaps. Should have a good future.

  7. The princess picks: Attica at Seegers-- unfortunately Seeger will pull this out and it won't be close. Riverton Parkes at Fountain Centrals-- Herbie shows no love for the Panthers and gets the W to avenge for the close loss last season. Covington at North Vermillions on Saturday-- Call me crazy but I'll go with Covington because why not? The Woofs of Parke Heritage at South Vermillions on Saturday-- Visors are cool and I will make this prediction solely on that statement and nothing else.

  8. Some great games this week, the TC vs Lutheran game should be really good, both QB's are VERY good.

  10. I really tried to download the video so I could share it but after I made my playlist, I never had an option to download. It doesn't really matter at this point. I really hope someone talks to that crew before Friday though because I don't think they are doing anything intentionally incorrect. They just don't know they are doing it wrong every single time.

  11. Carroll and Snider might be top 10 by seasons end. Warren will be 1-2 after this week as they will beat North Central. Judging from their play I see WC being at best 4-5 but will likely be 2-7 or 3-6. They will struggle with Lawrence Central and Lawrence North. They will get beat by Ben Davis, Carmel, and Christian Brothers (MO). The 2 wins I do see are Pike and North Central. That in no way is talking bad about Snider or Carroll.

  15. I don't think there were any shockers in the last week's scores. I was pulling for Wawasee to get that win...but it didn't work out. On to week 3 and conference games! Wawasee at Goshen: Oddly enough, this may end up being a good game. Two teams, not doing so well, battling it out. I would normally take the home team in this game...but I will stick with Wawasee...eventually they will prove me right and win a game. Wawasee 17 Goshen 10 Warsaw at Plymouth: Not a whole lot to say about this game. I know Warsaw's offense hasn't gotten going as of yet, however, they had good opposition in the first two weeks. I think we may see a running clock in this one. Warsaw 49 Plymouth 7 Mishawaka at Northridge: Mishawaka had a great 1st drive against Penn...and well...that was about it. Northridge took a little bit to get going, but then looked good. This game will come down to mistakes. If Mishawaka can limit their mistakes (turnovers / false starts) I think they would be favored. I don't think that will happen, and will take Northridge at home. Northridge 28 Mishawaka 14 NorthWood at Concord: I don't really have a gauge on Concord as of yet...nor NorthWood. Concord has played a common opponent in Jimtown, and I believe NorthWood played them better. NorthWood has no run game...eventually they will have to figure that out and their defense is actually preforming better than I thought they would. It is in my opinion, that DB is the hardest position in high school. With NorthWood having 3 good wideouts, it is going to be difficult for teams to cover everyone and I don't think anyone in the NLC will stop the passing attack. With that said, I think NorthWood takes this game fairly easily. NorthWood 38 Concord 14

  17. Attica @ Seeger - Seeger wins RP @ FC - RP took a beating against a really good Carroll team. I look for them to bounce back and go into FC fighting. FC is coming off a decent win against a bad Crawfordsville team. I think Herb will have his team more prepared so I'll take FC 28 - 20 Covington @ NV - Covington has surprised me so far this year. The new coach seems to have something decent going there. This will be their first sight of any really competition so far this year. I guess NV played last Friday without their qb but if he doesn't play on Friday it could be a dog fight. If the qb plays I'll take NV by two or three scores if he doesn't play I'll still take NV 22-14 PH @ SV - PH had a great win against West Vigo and SV will only have four days to prep for this game.... but I don't think that really matters. SV wins by as much as they want. 60-6

  18. This has never been legal in high school football. In fact, in 2023, the National Federation has made it a Point of Emphasis. Here’s some language from the NFHS 2023 rulebook: ”Rule changes have been made at higher levels of football allowing offensive players to pile in behind and directly push the runner. Because of these changes, we are now seeing similar plays at the high school level. As guardians of the game, it is imperative that all stakeholders work together to remove “helping the runner” from our high school game. … Pushing the pile is legal; direct contact and pushing, pulling, lifting the runner is not.”

  19. Seeger 56 Attica 12- Attica is much improved from a year ago but this week the patriots dominate the ramblers. FC 26 RP 20- A really intriguing game and a competitive one at that RP got blasted last week will they come out flat or on fire only time will tell. This game will come down to who can get the most stops and i think FC is better on D. NV 48 Cov 28- Tough loss last week for crabtree and the crew but played really competitive without white at QB. This is covington's week to prove they can play with top teams in the conference. Whoever plays better on defense will win this game NV is better up front and has more athletes. Sv 56 Ph 7- This one won't be close SV basically did whatevr they wanted to West vigo and for three quarters WV played PH close its at SV barret won't ;et his crew take it easy on woofs after securing a potential upset win over the golden arrows.

  20. I’ve never seen a kid from Brown County that I’ve looked at and thought, “He must be a football player.” I love Brown County. It’s one of my favorite places to visit. However, I’ve just never gotten the feeling that they were that serious about athletics there.

  21. We are lucky to have some homegrown coaches. Having someone to lead like Coach Newton who comes from a culture of success at Lewis Cass and other assistants from places with cultures of success like Brownstown Central and Columbus East has been invaluable.

  24. Congratulations to the Panthers! Athletic success starts at the top, great hire in Corey Stevens, he has a vision and is working diligently to move the athletic program forward. I’ve only met Coach Newton once, but my initial opinion is he’s a young man with a plan and he’s working hard. JC has long been the butt of jokes aside from being a sad story of rural decay in the US. Good for them, they finally are getting some of the pieces to fit together.

  25. Yeah, I know the feeling with key injuries, but I usually hang in there. However, it's hard when you know you don't have your best team out of the field. I remember two seasons ago when we faced a pretty good New Albany team at New Albany in the regional. I found out just before the game that our best running backs were out and also our starting QB with injuries incurred in the sectional title game. We put a JV backfield on the field which just couldn't move the ball and New Albany wore our defense down since they spent much of the game out on the field. New Albany easily won that game and it was really frustrating to watch. You already brought up the regional game at Castle where we ended up going down there with our top two RBs out of the game with injuries. Maybe it just seems that way, but South seems to have more injuries than the average team when it comes to post season play.

  26. Very difficult call as to whether the runner was down or not. But that’s a bang bang judgment call, so I have no issue with the crew there. Where I do have an issue, however, is with the aftermath. Coach Yeoman is all the way out almost to the hash discussing it with the R. Discussion is fine, but it cannot take place out on the field. Need the wing on that side to keep the coach off the field and have the R come over and talk to him on the sideline, if necessary. Coaches may come out on the field during a charged timeout, or for an injury. Not otherwise.
